    Solo: A Star Wars Story

So they've apparently auditioned over 2500 people for the role of young Han. Some famous names have been attached to this (including Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, and Rami Malek)... but I really hope they go with a relative unknown for the role. Someone with a resemblance to Harrison/Han, but not a body double... who can pull off his sarcastic charm. And also, I wonder if this will involve the new plot revelation from a recent comic in which Han had seemingly been married in the past before meeting Leia. I suppose it all depends on when it happened and why and how long it lasted and etc.

Han Solo cast - who's who?

The Han Solo spin-off film is currently in production for release in 2018. Although we are still a long way from having any details of the storyline, we do know that we will see a young Han Solo in action. So far four actors have been confirmed, so let's take a look at our new Han Solo and the people who will be joining everybody's favourite scoundrel. Alden Ehrenreich - Han Solo Taking up the mantle of the eponymous smuggler, Han Solo is the young Californian actor Alden Ehrenreich. He was chosen after a lengthy casting period that aimed to find an actor who could capture the spirit of the character made famous by Harrison Ford. Ehrenreich was first discovered by Steven Spielberg, which led to several television roles before he had his big screen debut in Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro. He later went on to star in Beautiful Creatures, Stoker, and the Coen brothers comedy Hail, Caesar! On 5 May 2015 he was confirmed as being cast in the lead role of a young Han Solo in the second of the Star Wars spin-off movies. Donald Glover - Lando Calrissian Joining Han Solo as the irrepressible Lando Calrissian is Donald Glover, who has already had a varied career in entertainment having made a name for himself in almost every avenue of show business. Glover has written for NBC comedy 30 Rock and had an acting role in Community. He is also due to appear in Marvel's Spider-man: Homecoming superhero reboot. Incidentally, Stan Lee supported Glover for the lead role in Sony's The Amazing Spider-man. Glover has also released several rap albums as Childish Gambino, and also DJs and produces electronic music under the name of mcDJ. On 21 October 2016 he was confirmed as being cast as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie. Emilia Clarke Playing an unknown role in the Han Solo movie is Emilia Clarke, who shot to fame as Danaerys Targaryen in HBO's television adaption of Game of Thrones. Clarke recently starred as Sarah Connor in 2015's Terminator: Genisys, and had the lead role in the 2016 worldwide success Me before You. She was also voted Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire in 2015. In November 2016 she was confirmed as part of the Han Solo movie's cast, although no details have been released about the type of role she has. Woody Harrelson Han Solo's mentor will be played by Woody Harrelson, who should be a stranger to nobody with his impressive list of acting credits since the 1980s which include Zombieland, The Hunger Games, and Now You See Me. His first role was as the bartender in the classic television comedy Cheers. Outside of acting, he is a vegan, environmentalist, and also considers himself an anarchist. He was confirmed for the Han Solo movie in early January 2017, and has said in interviews that his character will be a criminal as well as Han Solo's mentor.
  6. Lucasfilm and Disney have big plans to continue the saga across all forms of media, but for many of us it is these blockbuster hits that are the most anticipated. It is expected that there will be a period of time that has passed since the end of the previous film. 2020 - A Star Wars Story Director: To be confirmed Starring: To be confirmed Synopsis: This project was once rumoured to be based on the story of fan-favourite bounty hunter Boba Fett, and was previously assigned to Josh Trank to direct. More recent rumours favour an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off, which Ewan McGregor has stated he would be happy to reprise his role for. Unknown - New Star Wars Trilogy Director: Rian Johnson Starring: To be confirmed Synopsis: Shortly before the release of The Last Jedi it was announced that director Rian Johnson would be working on a new trilogy of Star Wars films that were separate from the main episodic saga. Alden Ehrenreich is Han Solo!

Alden Ehrenreich has fought off the competition to be crowned as the "new" face of Han Solo. The 26-year-old actor known for his recent roles in Beautiful Creatures and Hail, Caesar! will portray the fan-favorite smuggler in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's currently untitled young Han Solo spin-off film. The Han Solo movie will be the second spin-off film, after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and will be released between the main saga debuts of Star Wars Episode VIII and IX. On Wednesday, director Christopher Miller tweeted that he can't wait to start filming. Little is known about the story line for the Han Solo film, save that it features Han Solo in his twenties. With the old Expanded Universe out of the way, anything could happen, although it would be hard to resist a Boba Fett or Lando Calrissian reference in there somewhere. The Han Solo movie is currently set for release on 25 May 2018.

Search for young Han Solo down to three

According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm and Disney's search for a young Han Solo has narrowed down from over 2,500 applicants to just three candidates. An insider has revealed that tests were being performed with the three hopeful Han's on London last week, but official sources are remaining charactaristically tight-lipped on the matter. The three reported candidates remaining are said to be Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Ceasar!) It is currently unknown whether these were screen tests or costume tests, but the select group appears to have been picked from an earlier shortlist which was previously released featuring around 10 actors in total. The as-yet-untitled Han Solo spin-off film is to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and is currently scheduled for release in May 2018.

Chewbacca to appear in Han Solo movie

The upcoming Han Solo spin-off film will be an origin story not just for Han Solo, but also for the friendship between the smuggler and his wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca, Bob Iger has confirmed. The reveal came from the Disney CEO during a conference about the studio's future Star Wars plans, according to The Wrap. It is difficult to imagine a Han Solo tale without Chewbacca, but the confirmation that Chewbacca will be part of the story is something that will no doubt please fans. The as yet untitled Han Solo film will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord and is currently expected to be released on 25 May 2018, but no announcement of who will play the young Han Solo has been made.

    Rogue One rumors surface

New pictures from Pinewood apparently show X-Wing starfighters that will appear in upcoming spin-off movie, Rogue One. The pictures from TMZ show classic Star Wars trilogy style X-wing's with individually distinct engines, unlike the updated versions that appear in The Force Awakens. This fits in the known time period for Rogue One, which is said to include the mission to retrieve the plans to the Empire's first Death Star prior to the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope. Making Star Wars has also reported on some leaked character details, including a character named Galen played by Mads Mikkelsen who may be the Imperial scientist in charge of the Death Star project. Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced that a young Han Solo cameo could happen in the movie, as Disney and Lucasfilm reportedly come close to selecting the actor who will play the smuggler in the later Han Solo movie which is scheduled to release between episodes VIII and IX. According to Variety, producers have a shortlist of actors aged between 17 and 34, including Miles Teller (Divergent), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in our Stars), Scott Eastwood (Gran Torino), Emory Cohen (Smash), and Blake Jenner (Glee) amongst others. A trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars story is also rumored to be attached to the release of Captain America: Civil War later this year, while the film itself is scheduled for release on 16 December 2016.

  14. If you're avoiding spoilers then you may not want to read this article about the latest reveal in Marvel's Star Wars comic series. Since Disney swept away the old Star Wars Expanded Universe authors, such as those responsible for Marvel's new fully-approved official canon Star Wars comic series, have had a lot more freedom with the characters and storylines. This is especially apparent now that Marvel Star Wars #6 has revealed that everybody's favourite scoundrel, Han Solo, may actually have been married during at least part of the original Star Wars trilogy. The shocking revelation comes when a woman introducing herself as Sana Solo arrives, announcing to Leia that she is his wife and stating "Han Solo belongs to me". It is unknown whether Sana's claims are true, but the pair were definitely not on good terms, and she had spent a great deal of time travelling the galaxy trying to track Han down. Marvel Star Wars is an official canon comic, slotting in the gap between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. This means that while Han was busy trying to woo Princess Leia he had a wife who was trying to track him down. The storyline isn't yet finished, so things will certainly become more clear soon enough. View full article

Visceral Games drops Han Solo hints

It has long been known that Visceral Games, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts has been working on a Star Wars project, but up until now nothing has been mentioned about what type of game they are developing. Visceral are perhaps most well known for their science fiction survival horror series Dead Space, and more recently Battlefield Hardline; a game that unlike previous other Battlefield games revolves around crime and policing rather than warfare. Staff members from the studio took to Twitter to drop hints about the upcoming game, including Scott Warner, the game's director, who posted a pirate-like flag with a stormtrooper helmet and crossbones accompanied by the words "It's better to be a pirate than to join the navy." Other hints dropped by staff members include more pirate references and a new decoration for their office in the form of a life-size statue of Han Solo frozen in carbonite.

  18. Rumors have surfaced that Harrison Ford's part in Episode VII will be much bigger than that of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who will be taking a backseat to him and the trio of young leads. Though not substantiated, it has come up before, so there could be truth in it. Some think that they may be giving this bigger part to Ford because they may be killing Solo off in VII... or maybe to just appease him for whether or not another Indy film is made--apparently his stipulation to join Star Wars again. Thoughts on having more Han, less Luke and Leia? Link

  21. Earlier in the year it was rumoured that Han Solo's legendary YT-1300 freighter, the Millennium Falcon, was being designed ready for a comeback in Star Wars Episode VII.While we are still waiting for solid casting news, the latest information comes from an insider that told Yahoo! News that construction of the interior and exterior of the Millennium Falcon was now complete. The set is apparently a full-scale model of the starship, and has been constructed in sections so it can be dismantled and reassembled in Pinewood Studios when production moves there for filming in January 2014. The return of the Falcon is sure to be a welcome addition to Episode VII, and has always been a firm favourite with fans. According to sources this set is expected to be the definitive version of the Corellian starship. But of course, it won't be complete without smuggler and scoundrel owner, Han Solo, and his Wookiee co-pilot, Chewbacca! Click here to view the article
  22. Originally, the plan seemed to involve Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford returning in a supporting capacity for Star Wars Episode VII with the newer recruits taking the lead, but now it seems that the fan favourites will be getting one last outing as the main stars. It is still rumoured that the new characters are the offspring of Luke, Leia, and Han, and it makes sense that one last outing for the stars of the classic trilogy, while taking the opportunity to introduce the next generation of Star Wars stars.
  23. Recent reports have shed some light into the departure of Michael Arndt from the Episode VII script team last year. 24. Online auction house Invaluable is selling an original prop used by Harrison Ford in two Star Wars films. The weapon, which is non-firing, is based on a German Mauser C96 handgun and is one of several props made for use in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. According to auctioneers, this particular model of Han Solo's trademark DL-44 blaster is a lighter version which would have been used in action-filled wide shots. Notably, it was used for the scene in Empire Strikes back when Darth Vader grabs Solo's blaster with the Force on Cloud City, and in Return of the Jedi when he wrestles with a stormtrooper on Endor. The prop was made is resin using a cast of the original DL-44 prop used in the original Star Wars movie, which itself has since been lost. Due to this fact it carries the same serial number as the original. In 2008 a Luke Skywalker lightsaber prop used by Mark Hamill was sold by producer Gary Kurtz for $240,000. If you have a spare $200,000 and would like the chance to own this piece of Star Wars history, you can find the auction here: http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/harrison-ford-han-solo-dl-44-blaster-from-star-379-c-44e307f3bc
