Chickenman 9 Posted July 17, 2008 Well technically pop can't be a genre, strictly speaking, as the definition of pop changes to suit what the current trend is... hence popular music. Pop is indeed a genre. "Initially the term was an abbreviation of, and synonymous with, popular music, but evolved around the 1950s to describe a specific musical category." ~Wikipedia Though Britpop is admittedly different than American pop. American pop tends to be very shallow, basic, and unovative (my newly created word for the opposite of innovative)
Chickenman 9 Posted July 17, 2008 Okay, so if you read my review of the Pearl Jam concert, here are some videos I found on youtube to illustrate my points. Guitar solo during "Evenflow." (Improvised!) Epic Cover of "Love, Reign O'er Me" Crowd goes nuts during "Betterman" Another view, sounds better but doesn't capture the moment as well. Eddie's Reaction Of course, none of these do their respective moments justice.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted July 17, 2008 Even Flow = awesome!
Mara 29 Posted July 18, 2008 The Dark Knight] A freakin' bazillion ++++! Umm... I don't have anything else to add to that. :p
Rogue 4 Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) I give it 10 out of 5 stars. :D Edited July 19, 2008 by Rogue
Mara 29 Posted July 21, 2008 I give it 10 out of 5 stars. I kind of said that in my Flixster review, hehe. :D

Mara 29 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) Wall-E Rating: B While it was kind of cute and all, and not much dialogue to force you to enjoy a movie with witty remarks and the like (instead using visuals to entertain, which I much prefer)... I couldn't get over the fact that it seemed very preachy. I mean, "we have to save earth now before we end up living in space on a big cruise ship and weighing 400 pounds." Also.. the ending seemed a bit tedious, the whole climax scene when they finally get the plant and return to earth. It took FOREVER, in my book. But it was fairly entertaining, so it gets a higher mark for that. Definitely not the best from Disney/Pixar. Edited July 28, 2008 by Mara

Drake 53 Posted July 28, 2008 It was a good movie to get that point across. Adults are stubborn but if you teach kids, any way possible, to do the environment good, then that kind of future can be avoided. It wasn't preachy, it was a warning and a lesson. Andy 60 Posted July 29, 2008 To be honest I felt it was joking around with the current issues about climate change, etc. Definitely didn't find it to be preachy at all.
Mara 29 Posted July 29, 2008 *shrugs* It wasn't just the preachy part. I guess I just felt it felt short on a few things. Definitely a little disappointed after all I had heard about it. Maybe I just had high expectations.
Tsl 7 Posted July 29, 2008 Just got back from seeing the new Batman movie.... Yes I realize it's been out forever A++ Great acting, good plot and good action all in one movie....a rare beast indeed. Ledger did an amazing job with the Joker...taking a ridiculous character and making him seem real. Absolutely amazing. He made the movie.
Chickenman 9 Posted July 29, 2008 taking a ridiculous character and making him seem real. Absolutely amazing. Ever read the comics? They (usually) tend to treat him like the terrifying psycho he is.
Andy 60 Posted July 29, 2008 Television and previous movie versions have been more influential on public opinion though (not everyone reads comics) and have been quite poor in portraying the Joker. I was quite glad to see the Joker as he is meant to be shown in Dark Knight
Ayingel 24 Posted July 29, 2008 taking a ridiculous character and making him seem real. Absolutely amazing. Ever read the comics? They (usually) tend to treat him like the terrifying psycho he is. that's the thing that my dad and i have really appreciated about the newest batman movies (batman begins and dark knight)...they've been very true to the comics... Chickenman 9 Posted July 29, 2008 Yeah. Batman Begins and Batman: Year One are very similar, even ending the same way. And Heath Ledger apparently locked himself in a hotel room for a month or so with a collection of Joker comics, like The Man Who Laughs and especially the Killing Joke. Every night he'd write a journal entry in the personality of the Joker. Got to the point where he started suffering from insomnia and began taking sleeping pills... Ayingel 24 Posted July 29, 2008 yeah, robert and i kinda noticed the character seemed to be getting to him in certain scenes...
Drake 53 Posted July 29, 2008 Then the Joker had the last laugh and drove Heath to kill himself. That's a damn powerful character.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted July 29, 2008 it's scary when they take on a life of their own like that.
Tsl 7 Posted July 29, 2008 yeah, i admit i've never read the comics. i've just seen the various tv series, movies and cartoons. all of which obviously did a piss poor job, lol
Chickenman 9 Posted July 29, 2008 The animated series was actually very good and one of the best incarnations of Batman of all time.
