    Unknown Status
    Rian Johnson Star Wars Trilogy
Shortly before the release of The Last Jedi it was announced that director Rian Johnson would be working on a new trilogy of Star Wars films that were separate from the main episodic saga. It is speculated that this will pick up on some of the themes introduced in The Last Jedi and follow a new group of young Force users.
    Cancelled Projects
    2020 Star Wars Story
This spin-off film was previously assigned to Josh Trank to direct, before he was dropped from the project, which was rumoured to be based on the story of fan-favourite bounty hunter Boba Fett. Other rumours favoured an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off, which Ewan McGregor stated he would be happy to reprise his role for. It was reported in October 2018 that the Boba Fett film had been scrapped in favour of the the Jon Favreau television series, The Mandalorian, and the relatively poor box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story caused Disney/Lucasfilm to reevaluate their future release plans.
David Benioff & DB Weiss Star Wars movie
The creators of the television adaptation of George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, Game of Thrones, were offered a film or series of films, possibly a trilogy. Bob Iger confirmed in May 2019 that Star Wars 2022 was theirs, but they later left the project, citing an increased workload due to contractual obligations with Netflix.
    Released Projects
2015 - Star Wars: The Force Awakens
2016 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
2017 - Star Wars: The Last Jedi
    2018 - Solo: A Star Wars Story
2019 - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
The first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was screened to convention goers at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando on 14 April 2017.

Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is the only only character with dialogue in the trailer, which also shows scenes of Rey practicing her lightsaber moves.
Although the trailer does not reveal much, Luke's words hint that he no longer believes that the Jedi should be the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.
Captain Phasma was also shown, presumably meting out some Empire Strikes Back style retribution.
Kylo Renn appears to have dumped his helmet as we see it shattered on the floor, although the trailer alludes to him still being a major villain for the film.
General Leia Organa is also seen, confirming previous speculation that she would play a pivotal role in the film, guiding the Resistance forces.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled for release on 15 December 2017.

Han Solo cast - who's who?

    By Andy, in The Movies,

The Han Solo spin-off film is currently in production for release in 2018. Although we are still a long way from having any details of the storyline, we do know that we will see a young Han Solo in action.
So far four actors have been confirmed, so let's take a look at our new Han Solo and the people who will be joining everybody's favourite scoundrel.

    Alden Ehrenreich - Han Solo

Taking up the mantle of the eponymous smuggler, Han Solo is the young Californian actor Alden Ehrenreich. He was chosen after a lengthy casting period that aimed to find an actor who could capture the spirit of the character made famous by Harrison Ford.
Ehrenreich was first discovered by Steven Spielberg, which led to several television roles before he had his big screen debut in Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro. He later went on to star in Beautiful Creatures, Stoker, and the Coen brothers comedy Hail, Caesar!
On 5 May 2015 he was confirmed as being cast in the lead role of a young Han Solo in the second of the Star Wars spin-off movies.

    Donald Glover - Lando Calrissian

Joining Han Solo as the irrepressible Lando Calrissian is Donald Glover, who has already had a varied career in entertainment having made a name for himself in almost every avenue of show business.
Glover has written for NBC comedy 30 Rock and had an acting role in Community. He is also due to appear in Marvel's Spider-man: Homecoming superhero reboot. Incidentally, Stan Lee supported Glover for the lead role in Sony's The Amazing Spider-man.
Glover has also released several rap albums as Childish Gambino, and also DJs and produces electronic music under the name of mcDJ.
On 21 October 2016 he was confirmed as being cast as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie.

    Emilia Clarke

Playing an unknown role in the Han Solo movie is Emilia Clarke, who shot to fame as Danaerys Targaryen in HBO's television adaption of Game of Thrones.
Clarke recently starred as Sarah Connor in 2015's Terminator: Genisys, and had the lead role in the 2016 worldwide success Me before You. She was also voted Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire in 2015.
In November 2016 she was confirmed as part of the Han Solo movie's cast, although no details have been released about the type of role she has.

    Woody Harrelson

Han Solo's mentor will be played by Woody Harrelson, who should be a stranger to nobody with his impressive list of acting credits since the 1980s which include Zombieland, The Hunger Games, and Now You See Me. His first role was as the bartender in the classic television comedy Cheers.
Outside of acting, he is a vegan, environmentalist, and also considers himself an anarchist.
He was confirmed for the Han Solo movie in early January 2017, and has said in interviews that his character will be a criminal as well as Han Solo's mentor.

    Rogue One reviews

    By Andy, in The Movies,

Many have now seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and critcs have been leaving their verdicts on the first of the Star Wars spin-off movies.
Rotten Tomatoes currently tracks Rogue One at 85% after 241 critic reviews, with an audience score of 89% positive after 41,000 audience ratings.
Here's a round-up of the critics' comments below. While we have tried to avoid spoilers, be aware that some of the links may be riddled with them!
Rolling Stone called Rogue One amazing in their review, perfectly capturing the magic of the original Star Wars trilogy, with a combat-heavy finale that means Rogue One gets better as it goes along.
GQ's reviewers said that Rogue One was a solid start to a new vision for the Star Wars franchise, although it lacked the emotional depth of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
The Guardian scored Rogue One 4/5 in their fan-written review, saying that the film was "made for the fans" and had enough depth to be worth an extra viewing, but questioned whether it would resonate with the average viewer.
The Telegraph also scored Rogue One 4/5. They saw it as less nostalgic than The Force Awakens, but still fits neatly in to the Star Wars universe despite the darker tone of the story.
The New York Times was less positive about Rogue One, claiming that although all of the ingredients were there, they found clumsy plots and dialogue made for a mediocre movie.
Time also derided Rogue One for being almost pedantic in its inoffensiveness, with a colour palette resembling "intergalactic dishwater".
The Verge said that although Rogue One struggles early on it does grow into its own, and is more like a modern action film - for better or worse.
Entertainment Weekly called Rogue One an epic heist flick, with a third act being a white-knuckle ride as the movie kicks into hyperdrive. They graded the film a B+.
Disney movie executives are so unhappy with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that they have reportedly ordered a four-week long session of reshoots this July in order to improve the upcoming spin-off film following poor screen testing.
The rumors were revealed to Page Six, who have previously been quite reliable. Sources claim that Disney bosses were not satisfied with director Gareth Edwards' first cut of Rogue One and are splashing out on the expensive reshoots as they try to resolve the "crisis".
Fans were on the whole pleased with the first Rogue One trailer that landed a few months ago, but the film seems to not live up to the hype in it's current state. Whether this report is exaggerated, as movies do often reshoot scenes after filming has ended, or whether Edwards has fallen short of producing a top quality movie remains to be seen.
Rogue One is due out on 16 December 2016.
Tickets for Star Wars Celebration 2017 in Orlando are on sale to today from Noon Pacific, 3pm Eastern, 8pm UK time.
Single day tickets start from $65 for adults with 4-day passes priced at $150 if purchased online.
Star Wars Celebration Orlando takes place at the Orange County Convention Centre on 13 - 16 April 2017 and celebrates the 39th anniversary of the original Star Wars movie.
Full prices can be found on the Star Wars Celebration website.
Meanwhile, Star Wars Celebration Europe will be held in London this summer from 15 - 17 July.
An alleged leak from Star Wars Episode VIII has provided new rumored plot details and snippets of action. While these are unconfirmed rumors, please consider them to be spoilers - you have been warned!
Firstly, a leak on Reddit has revealed a potential title for Episode VIII; a video that bears the logo of upcoming Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 shows the title of Episode VIII to be Star Wars: Fall of the Resistance. Fans are divided on the title which point towards the often-hinted at darker nature of the second film of the sequel trilogy, but sceptics are keen to point out that it all seems a bit fishy and is most likely a fake.
Making Star Wars reports that photos from the Malin Head set in Ireland appear to show several figures dressed in black, with costumes similar to that worn by Kylo Ren. It is claimed that these may be the Knights of Ren, and are hot on the heels of Luke Skywalker now that he has been located at the end of The Force Awakens.
An eye-witness also claims to have seen Luke and Rey on Ahch-To as they are confronted by Kylo and the Knights of Ren. This is a scene which apparently shows how much of a badass Luke has now become as he fights with both the Force and a green-bladed lightsaber which is presumably the same one he used in Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars Episode VIII will be released on 15 December 2017.
It was recently announced at C2E2 that a three-issue comic series by Phil Noto that would tie into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would be released later this year. Now it appears that Marvel have cancelled the series, with retailers hoping to stock the series having been told that their orders will now not be filled.
According to Bleeding Cool, the main reason behind the cancellation is rewrites. With the challenge of writing and illustrating a comic that links directly to a movie that isn't out yet, which has itself undergone reshoots and editing, ensuring a solid story that connects seamlessly has proven to be too much for the comic book creative team within the time and budgetary constraints they were given.
Perhaps after Rogue One's release the team will revisit the series to fill in the extra details fans were promised, but until then the comic is no longer available to pre-order.

    Plug pulled on Disney Infinity

    By Andy, in Gaming,

Disney have announced that it's toys-to-life game platform Disney Infinity will be retired this year. The move is somewhat shocking given the platform's popularity with collectors and it's potential for expansion, with several projects being canned as a result.
Disney Infinity 3.0 introduced Star Wars to the family of characters already available, and developers were reportedly working on content to be introduced alongside upcoming spin-off movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well as new 12-inch premium figures that would have extra in-game features as well as new physical attributes such as built-in lighting.
The toys-to-life market has been growing crowded recently, with Activision's Skylander's remaining popular and relative newcomer Lego Dimensions also filling up toy store shelves.
The last figures to be released for the system will be three characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass and a Finding Dory playset coming in June 2016, so sadly there will be no new Star Wars additions to come.
