Episode VII Subtitle rumor mill

Recommended Posts

Mara

There's been a couple rumors floating around in the past months on what the subtitle to the new Episode VII will be. Obviously these could very well be crap... or just a working title for shooting until the real one is revealed.

But until the official announcement comes--rumored to happen at Comic Con--I thought we could discussed the rumored subtitles, and perhaps come up with our own ideas for what to call Episode VII.

Rumor 1: A  New Dawn

(originally reported by talkbacker.com)

Rumor 2: The Ancient Fear

Of the two rumored titles... I think I prefer The Ancient Fear. It feels like it has some weight to it. A New Dawn kind of  mirrors A New Hope... but I think the new trilogy should be its own entity.

A New Dawn turned out to be the title of one of the new novels.

I think The Ancient Fear sounds clumsy and doesn't seem to fit to me.

I dunno... I think Star Wars - Episode VII: The Ancient Fear has a ring to it. Seems like it could start of a trilogy, like A New Hope or The Phantom Menace... where there's a bit of mystery as to what it could mean.

So it was officially announced yesterday that the subtitle will be The Force Awakens.

I like it.

Someone needs to make an article about the new title.  I'll see if I can do one later today.

    • Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh episode of the Star Wars saga. Production was announced by George Lucas in 2011, years after initially claiming that the story of Star Wars ended with Return of the Jedi. In 2012 Lucas sold Lucasfilm, along with the entire Star Wars franchise, to The Walt Disney Company who then assembled a new team to rework Episode VII to their own design. This marks the start of a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, and effectively reboots the franchise by casting off the old Star Wars Expanded Universe, opening the doors for new stories to take place in various media.
The film was widely anticipated and went on to break several box office records, and is currently the third highest grossing film of all time, behind Avatar and Titanic (unadjusted for inflation, as of February 2016). It won a Bafta for Best Special Visual Effects at the 2016 British Academy Film Awards, and was the American Film Institute's Movie of the Year for 2015.
The Force Awakens is set roughly 30 years after the end of Return of the Jedi and follows new heroes Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron, as they assist the the Resistance in the fight against the evil forces of the First Order, which has risen from the ashes of the defeated Galactic Empire.
    • KOTOR film??

      https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/05/23/star-wars-movie-based-on-knights-of-the-old-republic-reportedly-in-the-works

Will make a lot of fans excited lol!

Personally, I don't mind if it's set on the game itself, or if it's just set in that time period.
I would love to see a film with a bunch of Jedi and a bunch of Sith just going at it. I don't really need Revan for that.

Earlier it was rumored that the trilogy the GOT writers were working on was an Old Republic era-set series. So perhaps that is no longer true? Or we are getting two? Hmm.
    • Joss Whedon in Star Wars talks?

The second Star Wars Anthology film ran into trouble recently when director Josh Trank stepped down from the project. Some reports say Trank was fired from the film after disagreements with the other key production crew members. In either case Lucasfilm are on the lookout for a replacement, and the latest rumors from Latino Review indicate that they may be looking to Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon to fill that spot.
He has already expressed a desire to move on from the Marvel universe, after helming both Avengers movies and writing for Marvel's Agents of  SHIELD television series, and perhaps Disney aren't ready to let him go just yet. Another possibility is the fabled Star Wars live-action television series which has been in development limbo for a decade but occasionally pops up in a rumor, and he is no stranger to science-fiction or fantasy on TV, having created cult classics Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Dollhouse.
No official source has yet commented on these rumors as usual, so little may come of them, but even the possibility of Joss Whedon joining Star Wars is sure to excite fans.
    • Force Awakens - concept art

So a few days ago, ILM released a link to their portfolio of concept art drafted up for The Force Awakens.

It's really quite interesting to see how closely the film actually got to these concepts... and which ones didn't.
Plus, the artwork is just freaking beautiful.
