Mara 29 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm renting my aunt's house. She had to move to Louisiana to get a job. Ah... I have a condo Mara. It really depends on what you want, I think. The nice thing for me is that my heating bills are low (since I have downstairs neighbors and live on the top floor), I don't have to shovel, I have underground parking, no water bill, and it was a little cheaper I think. The downfalls are closet space, you live in an apartment building (which can have varying degrees of niceness and badness depending on the association), I pay association fees, and I only have one bathroom. Well, at first I was thinking only condo, because I thought it would just be easier. But houses tend to be a little cheaper and I can always hire someone to do snow/mowing, instead of paying an HOA that covers that. But houses also tend to be older and have more problems, and even if the condo is older, than most things that might go wrong would be covered. So I'm still weighing things back and forth. And if I went with a condo, I'd be going for one with an attached garage (not one that looks like a glorified apartment). Of course, there is also the fact that my mom seems oblivious to the process, thinking that I should only have to pay $100 a month for my mortgage. Yeah. Right. Considering she also doesn't want me to be in a 'bad' neighborhood. Well, I'm sorry, I can't have it both ways. :p
Princess 35 Posted January 25, 2011 That is low for a mortgage, but if you get a foreclosed house, those are going real cheap, you should be able to get a low mortgage payment
Ayingel 24 Posted January 25, 2011 My parents only pay $400 for a mortgage. We got this one on a shortsale.
Mara 29 Posted January 25, 2011 Yeah, but finding a foreclosed one in good condition would be the kicker.
James the Defender 7 Posted January 26, 2011 In this market, I'd imagine more often than not you'd find one in good condition. The Mustang is in my driveway!!!!!!!!! I drove it home! It's mine!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Jake Durron 23 Posted January 26, 2011 *takes mine and buys another round* I'm so freaking excited!!! I just eliminated 2,200 dollars worth of debt since christmas, plus I have another 200 dollars of debt dying this upcoming paycheck which finishes off a loan I've been paying on! I've finally got my car payments end in sight with the last payment to be made in June yay for six months! I'm getting a new job making more than I am now for working less hours and SUPER AMAZING BETTER BENEFITS aka full insurance: medical/dental/vision/hearing plus sick days and paid vacation. As its working for metro (School Bus Driving) I'll get the summer off if I want it or I can opt to drive summer school kids, PLUS I'll get my cdl which lets me get training for driving a rig. I think by the end of the year, I should have all my debt excluding my student loans paid off... AND I'll be current with them, and getting my credit on track and saving up for my houseboat! Mara 29 Posted January 26, 2011 In this market, I'd imagine more often than not you'd find one in good condition. Not necessarily. But maybe I'm just jaded by all these HGTV shows from work with all these dumps of foreclosures. All banks want to do is make more than what's owed on the house. And sometimes they don't care about fixing them up real nice. Plus, when I see a listing in the paper for a house that's only 30-50 grand, with 2-3 bedrooms, 2 bath, almost 2,000 square feet... my first reaction is, "what's wrong with it?" And wow, more people popping out of the woodwork! :p
Ayingel 24 Posted January 27, 2011 Idk Mara, I could have gotten a condo for $69000 that should have been sold for at least double that...Hardwood floors, granite counters, new paint, new tiles, stainless steel appliances...What you need is a really good realtor
James the Defender 7 Posted January 27, 2011 Congrats James! Thank you! I don't believe in a "mother nature" per se, but if I did, I'd swear she has a sense of twisted humor. Got the 'Stang yesterday, but it was snowing today and it will be snow covered tomorrow...can't drive it til Friday, more than likely...
