Uncle Du 22 Posted August 25, 2008 The new Metallica single "The Day That Never Comes" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UNfNpjWz-Y Not real impressed. It almost seems like someone took a medley of Metallica songs and watered it down. Seriously, I hear "Thorn Within," "Bleeding Me," "Fade to Black," and "Master of Puppets" in there. But, it's not horrible either. Right off the bat, I don't really like the way Hetfields voice sounds during the slower parts of the song. But, I think his voice is awesome when it comes to getting, I dunno, REALLY into the meat of the song. Also of note, it sounds like Lars didn't really try and do anything new on drums, sounds like he was just mashing s*** out for the sake of another album. It really sounds like they're lacking the feeling they've had in the past. And yea, definitely sounds like Hammett is just re-working his old solos. I dunno. I like it. Just not what one is used to. And this is coming from a Metallica fan that didn't alienate after Saint Anger. :p

And this is coming from a Metallica fan that didn't alienate after Saint Anger. Like I said, it feels watered down, like they're going through the emotions. Load is my favorite Metallica album because I like the introspection and experimentation. But here, there's something lacking both emotionally and musically. However, I'm thinking it'll grow on me. Plus, add "The Call of Ktulu" to the last of songs it sounds like.
