I get into work today and find out that the university president sent out an e-mail (which I didn't get but other people at the office did) summarizing the budget situation (because Georgia has a dumbass, redneck, Republican governor, education is less important than, say, the Golf Hall of Fame or fishing tourism). One section of the message actually said something along the lines of "The following departments have been mentioned by the governor for reduction or eliminination" and named the department I worked for.

I actually wrote that letter before I realized he said "reduction" as well and later learned from the provost that they were only talking about reductions for us. So, I'm feeling better (then again, I also have a feeling that they'll change their minds or I'll be one of the reductees).

I was planning a trip to Seattle and starting to look for psychologists before today. It kind of put a damper on things.

Nothing is going right today. I'm stuck in a class that I can't drop because of it's super compressed format (3 weekends) and the fact that the class is past its halfway point. The teacher isn't teaching and it just sucks. Then the online section of a class that I want to be in is closed. How can there be a limit on class size on something online?

JM's Awful, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day:

I braved the ice and snow since I need a paycheck, and today's my long day at work. I'd already called in on Tuesday, so I figured I should go in today. Had to take a different way in due to trees down on <main road> and I initially turned the wrong way onto <other main road>. I knew then it was going to be a bad day. The parking lot at school (only a few blocks from work and I park there for free) was NOT plowed AT ALL. The college has been closed pretty much all week, but I was still preturbed that they hadn't at least cleared the parking lot. The snow stopped yesterday morning, so it's not like they didn't have time. On top of that, NONE of the sidewalks were plowed or salted either. Cue me nearly breaking my neck.

In my rush to get on the road early, I neglected to eat breakfast or grab something for lunch. There's a McDonald's on the way from the parking lot to work, so I figured I'd stop in. They're usually pretty quick. Except today. The ONE day I needed to get in and get out, they were slow. They were crowded, but even when packed, they're usually pretty quick. So I didn't walk into work until two minutes before opening, which was barely enough time for me to scarf down my McMuffin.

An Intermediate Publisher class was scheduled for this morning. Normally, I would have had all necessary handouts long before opening, but since I was running late, I obviously hadn't had the chance to check. So, I looked in the handout cabinet and a few handouts were in the corresponding folder. Not a full 16 like it's supposed to have, but a few nonetheless. That is, until I pulled them out and realized they were for the Intro class. Some yutz put the wrong handouts in the folder and I have ZERO of the correct ones. Fan-frikkin-tastic. Grumbling, I go to my computer to print out more. Except I've got a virus warning flashing at me. A quick scan came up with 34 Trojan programs, keystroke loggers, and other kinds of nasties that shouldn't be on the computer. Turns out SOMEONE DOWNLOADED A BS VIRUS SCANNER THAT WAS ACTUALLY SPYWARE!!! I can't do anything on the computer until Computer Services gets there to fix it. All the while of me running around trying to figure out how I'm going to get ready for class in time is this poor soul trying to file for unemployment online and he doesn't know anything about computers. And no one even showed for the class after I busted tail to have everything ready. Thanks a lot.

Fast forward to lunch. I had my heart set on Subway since I hadn't eaten there for awhile and there's one right down the road. So I hop on over only to discover a locked door. But I'm puzzled since there's a customer inside. I catch the employee's eye and she shakes her head at me. I nod that I understood, but I still hung around a bit because I had a question. Employee's friend pokes his head out and informs me that the store is closing and they are finishing up with the last customer. I ask my question which is are they closing just for lunch, or is this for the rest of the day. Of course, it's for the rest of the day. I sadly head a couple doors down to a Chinese place. Now, I love Chinese food, but I hate this particular place. They're slow and the food's not very good, but I'm hungry and desparate now since I didn't bring anything from home. I spent the remainder of my 30-minute lunch break waiting on my food and end up with no time to eat it. Thankfully, Awesome Supervisor is awesome and let me eat in his office since there was a staff training class going on in the lab and I wasn't needed.

I also got a text from my little sister asking if I was busy. With anyone else this would be nothing, but she doesn't say stuff like that unless she really needs to talk about something. In the intrim, I've sent two texts and left a voicemail that haven't been returned. She's probably in class since her school won't close for anything, and they've been having issues with AT&T's reception in that area. It probably is nothing, but I'm getting concerned that I haven't heard from her. I guess I'll try again when I get off work.

so, i'm sick. i started feeling crappy Monday night, and by Tuesday morning was running a fever, had achey joints, nausea, the whole works. i forced myself to go to school, but ended up calling in to work. Wednesday morning, the fever and aches were gone as was most of the nausea, but i had developed a nasty, deep, hacking up a lung type cough. still, i was feeling better, so i went to school Wednesday and Friday and work Thursday. by Friday evening, the cough wasn't getting any better, OTC cough meds aren't helping, and i'm getting concerned about it turning into something even nastier like bronchitis, so i truck on over to the immediate care center down the road. it was of course packed and i waited almost 2 hours to be seen. the nurse practicioner thinks i have a bacterial infection and wrote me a perscription for amoxicillian, which thankfully is free at the local Meijer. i know i've only been on the medication for a day, but it's doing nothing for my cough. i have no voice left from all the hacking, my throat and my chest hurt from coughing so hard for long periods of time. i hope to see some improvement by Monday.

Well this is just f-in great. Dude shows up with the trailer, and rips the goddamned cable right out the side of the house. Then they won't drop the damn trailer in the driveway, and they leave with it. So here I am without all my s***. Still.

Good thing I have a pregnant, hormonal fiance that likes yelling at people. I guess I'm too level headed. Cause I think they might actually bring my stuff back today.

LOL. Campus was on lockdown yesterday after a prisoner being transported to Tennessee from Florida escaped when the cop stopped at a Waffle House across the street from the main campus. The reason he was arrested? Stealing a Wal-Mart truck! He also stole a country singer's bus, drove to Florida to a NASCAR event and said he was there to pick up Tony Stewart. He even has a song written about him:

Come all you good people and a little story I will tell

Of Christopher Daniel Gay, we Tennesseans know him well

His mama said his heart was just as big as his head

And he became a car thief just to keep his family fed

The cops stopped him down in Texas where he was on the lam

They found out from headquarters he was wanted in Alabam

The Prisoner Transport Service was takin him back to pay

But at a road side pit stop he made his get away

Stole a pickup in Carolina, then a Wal-Mart truck with eighteen wheels

He drove toward his dyin mama in the Cheatham county hills

And it's down those lanes and back roads the police made their chase

And he almost made her trailer, he almost saw her face

A witness said it sounded like a barn a fallin hard

When he ran that semi off the road into the neighbor's yard

He ran off through the woods to a Whites Creek tour bus lot

He picked a silver and blue one and then he ran that diesel hot

His mama told the papers, "What he done was wrong

But" she said "he also knows his poor mama don't have long

The county sheriff said that if he turned himself in

They'd take him to his dyin mama before they took him to the pen

It was down in Lakeland, Florida he stopped at a NASCAR track

They wrote down his license number and that's how they finally brought him back

Now the chase it started Sunday, and when Saturday evening fell

They caught him in a tour bus that belonged to Crystal Gayle

As I tell you all this story, I would not be surprised

If the color of that stage coach matched his mama's eyes

It's through this world I've rambled and through this world I've roamed

But I never knew an outlaw with a tour bus for his home

Damn you, Cat Stevens!

Ahem..due to legal issues, the US release of Skins Vol. 1 has the final episode music montage with the cast singing "Wild World" in various locales cut. Yes...CUT from the DVD. One of the reasons I loved that show so much was becasue the music really set the tone on the screen. The montage at the end of Season 1 was brilliant...and to hear it was cut makes me swear off buying the US release.

Fortunately...I can buy from amazon.co.uk.....the UK boxed set of seasons 1 and 2. Amazon.com also sells a variety of Region free DVD players...which thrills me to no end.

Skins as it is meant to be shall be mine!!!11! ;)
