Ayingel

where to begin?

well, i'll skip part just because i'm so ewoking pissed. robert calls while he's gone and demands that the room is spotless by the time he gets home. do you want to know what spotless means? he wants me to go through all ewoking 8 boxes of s*** in our room that's apparently "all mine." so fine. shanna and i go through all 8 boxes. you wanna know how many boxes were actually "all mine?" three. three ewoking boxes were mine.

oh no, it gets better. i threw my back out on sunday. he knows this, he's heard me talk about it, and yup, room still needs to be clean.

shanna, knowing this, agrees to help me with my room. i said fine, and she ewoking takes over. now i'm barely getting my voice up and trying to do s*** with a bad back that hurts every time i move. all my s*** has moved again to yet another ewoking spot. not only that, she made me feel terrible by saying that all of my s*** was dirty, even tho i've washed parts of it, i'm washing those parts again. including my bed stuff. so right now i'm laying in a ewoking wet bed and surprisingly happy about it, because her drier stopped ewoking working on me at 11:40 pm and all my bedstuff had to sit in there. she's at a movie with her husband and the babysitter and i can't figure out what to do with the damn thing, so my stuff is still wet and i'd rather be in wet bedsheets than be without them. especially since she likes to have the air cranked to make it ewoking 68 degrees in this basement.

on top of it, my back is still killing me from only lifting about 80 lbs up some stairs one at a time. and from having to move s*** off of my bed by myself that i probably shouldn't have been moving alone, but who the ewok did i have to ask for help? not only that, but i have to be awake at five so that i can go get an x-ray of my kidneys in rochester and i'm awake now at ewoking 2:35 in the ewoking morning. i guess the only good thing is that i can call robert at 3:15 when he wakes up at drill. but i don't think that i will.

i hope my back's ewoked. i'm headed to the chiropractor today to find out. maybe then, people will actually cut me a ewoking break--it hurt to carry my bed stuff to my room from the laundry room next door...which wasn't all that far or all that much stuff to carry.

I know Mir, and to think, I want her job because I know that I could do it better.

Of course you could. But that's the point. Hang in there and keep feelers out to find out if that type of position is open somewhere else or maybe even in your workplace. You'll get there. :)

So...what do you do when your boss wants to set you up on a blind date? lol Can't really turn that one down, I guess...

Politely get out of it. Especially if you don't want to do it. I had a similar situation happen with a friend. Things didn't turn out and the guy (boss's brother) moaned like a baby to the boss. The friend got fired because of it. And that's the nice version of the story.

Radioactive Isotope

long rant. sorry guys.

it started early today. the managers have been keeping the lab closed in the mornings and having us lab assistants sit out at the desk where the other computers are. no biggie; it's usually not that busy until around lunch time, so after i eat lunch, i open the lab back up and retreat to my sanctuary.

well, there i am, sitting at the desk checking my e-mail when evil supervisor lady--who i hadn't seen since she walked in the door two minutes before opening--wanders over and says, "Since we're not busy, would you clean the monitors in the adult area? This is the only time we can do it." and wanders off again (note, adult meaning "grown-ups," not....you know....). i knew then it was going to be a bad day. first off, what "we"? she's been at the desk maybe an hour total the whole day. she just up and disappears. well, since i'm not doing anything important, sure i'll clean the monitors. so i trudge off to the supply closet, get the screen cleaner and some rags, and proceed to clean the monitors. sat back down until she wanders over again and asks if i'm finished. of course i'm finished, idiot. i don't have the rocks to actually ignore you when it is part of my job description and my real boss hasn't told me otherwise. so yes, i'm finished. "Well, did you get the children's side too?" hang on a sec. you told me to clean the ones in the adult area. i know it's my fault for not anticipating your request, but the children's area was never mentioned until now. so i go clean the children's monitors. and the four or so in the teen area now that i'm anticipating her next request.

and off she disappears until 11:30 when she reappears to let the other guy go to lunch. leaving me alone with her for 30 minutes. i bury myself in my book and pray she'll just ignore me like she usually does (unless my reading a book offends her in some way and she says something about me not being attentive enough. which i would totally expect from her.). thankfully, i manage to get to lunch without further incident. signing back in from lunch, i pass her on the way back to the lab and she mumbles something under her breath i assume was directed at me, and i'm sorry i asked for clarification. she needs me to stay at the desk. there are several problems with this. first off, i've been directing reference questions to the other librarian all morning. i can't answer them and i don't try to. with her disappearing so much, if the other guy has to get up to help someone, i'm alone at a REFERENCE desk fielding questions i can't answer. so of course, she disappears AGAIN and leaves me alone at the reference desk. i'm bringing this up at the meeting tonight, because it's not fair to us to ask us to do librarian's jobs, nor is it fair to the patrons who we have to give the run around trying to get their question answered.

oh, it gets much better. evil supervisor lady was particularly nasty later in the day. during closing procedures, she tells me i can now go shut down the computers in the children's area (i'd already shut the lab down by this point). the following exchange happens:

Me: *glancing over, seeing three computers still up and a coworker already on it* looks like Mike's got it

Her: *snappy* well you can go help him.

thankfully i had enough self-restraint to not say what i was thinking. i figured i'd already ticked her off enough for one day. she was helping someone, so it's not like she could get up and do it herself. i help a couple people on the adult side and finish shutting down those computers, trying to not explode and cause a scene. closing announcement comes and there are still a couple people checking out books. no biggie, but kinda annoying since she makes me stay until the entire place is empty and she dismisses the rest of the staff--even though they get paid for the extra few minutes and i do not. i've mentioned this to my bosses, and they told me i am not required to stay past closing, but i've been staying to avoid the argument. so, there we are standing around waiting for these last couple people to finish up so we can leave. i'm whispering to a coworker about how my paycheck stopped five minutes ago, and i'd really like to leave. i think evil supervisor lady heard me, but i'm not sure. in any event, she asks me to "escort these patrons out."

Me: so does that mean i can leave?

Her: *evil glare of DOOM, mumbles something i'm gonna assume means "go"*

fast forward to my meeting. i knew she was going to call/e-mail my bosses about today, so i pull Margot aside before the meeting starts and let her know what's going on. yes, i was in a bad mood today, she'll probably call you about it, and oh, by the way, they're making us sit out at the desk in the mornings. we'll get back to that. also, it turns out evil supervisor lady calls and complains about me frequently. thankfully, my bosses know she's full of crap and have had many many complaints about her in the past. i've also kept them informed of her shennanigans.

so, the meeting wasn't as bad as it normally is. i got some answers to some things i had brought up in the past, and was told yes they had been discussed by administration, but we can't implement the changes at this time. at least i know they're listening. then, one of the other guys who works the same branch brought up the fact they have us on the desk in the mornings. turns out, that can get them in HUGE trouble with the union because they are leaving us alone on the desk and forcing us to either track them down or answer questions ourselves. the library workers are unionized, so their responsibilities are protected. by me being at the desk alone, branch management could be accused of giving union jobs to non-union workers. big no-no. that will be taken care of fairly quickly. even better, i found out through chatting with the other guy that works that branch, that someone is drawing up a long list of grievences about her with the union. she's apparently doing a lot of things the union doesn't like. and the two of us chatted with Margot (my real boss) for a bit on how ESL treats all of the staff--not just the lab assistants--extremely poorly. it's obvious the days she doesn't work, because the staff is much more relaxed and happier. so Margot looks to the supervisor at the other branch i work at and says "We're going to have to do something about this. It needs to be addressed NOW." so i will be very interested to see how this all plays out.
