Dear Real World Friends,

Okay, I get it. Really, I do. I'm not the easiest friend to have. I'm a whiny b****, I can be a little overcritical, and years of isolation have made me awkward, at best, in the realm of social interaction. On top of that, I can't seem to manage friendships at all. I'll allow a friendship to burn brightly for a few weeks before it just dies. The friendship itself isn't over, but we'll stop hanging out for whatever reason. This happens even with my "best friends" who have a very high turnover rate because the friendship just wilts. I know it's my fault. I can't manage a thing in my life, but if anything, I wish I could manage this.

And while I accept that all this and more is my fault, it would help if you guys made an effort yourselves. I put every effort into my friendships. You guys are the most important thing in my life. Truly. I try to make you laugh until your stomach hurts, I try to make every single time we hang out the best experience you've ever had (I fail at both of these with incredible frequency, but it's the thought that counts, I guess) and most importantly, I try to always be there for you when times are tough.

And I'm not even a ewoking blip on your screen. You could be my best friend in the world, but if you want to hang out with someone, it's not that I'm not the first person you call, it's that I'm not even on the ewoking list. I kill myself over you and you don't give me a ewoking second thought. There's always someone you like better who you'd rather hang out with. Fine, but it would be great if you'd throw me a bone every once in awhile. After all, while you're out having a life, I'm sitting at a computer hating mine. While you have fun and create the memories that will last you forever, I'm at home loathing the person that I've become. Also, I eat lunch and dinner, and breathe. But literally the rest of my time is spent loathing myself and how my (admittedly not that bad) life has become. And I don't mean literally as in not literally. I mean literally as in literally. As much as I love being the outcast who wastes his life away, I...don't.

I realize that I'm typing this after a Saturday where I actually did get out of the house. I went bowling and then went to a friend's house where we stayed up until 2 in the morning playing an intense game of Pictionary. And I had a ewoking blast. But at the same time, this blast was tinged with the depression that this never happens to me. Granted, some months are better than others, with me going out a whole two times instead of...zero. But mostly, I'm at home, wishing for something like that. You might not exactly be a party animal, but you have a healthy social life. Maybe you don't think so, but you go out at least every other weekend, and do something with your life, even if it's wasting time with a close friend. I don't have that. I've never had that. Maybe with Lucy, because she's the only person that ever really gave a s*** about me, but hanging out with her just turned into an obligation after awhile. Actually, with her, my social life did have a huge upswing, but it was entirely because people liked her, so I was able to be dragged along. By myself, no one gave a s***.

The bottom line is that you guys don't respect me in the slightest, even though you guys are the ewoking world to me. And I'm ewoking sick of it.

So my insurance is going up $250 a MONTH, so $125 of each paycheck... because of some guy who doesn't work here anymore who had health problems.

And then I get offered to go home early without pay. Um, NO.

I am really starting to lose my faith in humanity. I had a 17 year old patient tonight come in as a level 1 trauma with a gunshot wound to the mouth, and it turns out that her boyfriend shot her with a .38 in the mouth while she was sleeping. Luckily, it didn't kill her, just broke her jaw
