I think I'm A+ like my parents. Nat (my sis) is a different blood type, although I forget what.

I'm sure someone could tell me. Prin would know... she is useful sometimes. :p

Heehee. I remember having to explain to you how your sister can have a different blood type than both of your parents and not be the mailman's child.

Unknown, you'll be getting a donor card from the blood center that you donated through (I'm assuming American Red Cross) once they complete the testing on the blood that they need to do. And unfortunately they can't take less blood because there have to be specific ratios of anticoagulant to blood and the products that are made from the blood (packed RBCs, plasma and platelets) need to be made from specific amounts of blood to get the right volume.

ARGH!

Okay, the state of Georgia has something called the HOPE Scholarship. It's funded by the state lottery. The HOPE pays toward tuition and some books. You have to have a "B" average, complete 67% of your attempted credit hours, etc. Funding for HOPE has been a major political issue here in Georgia. Lottery sales have stagnated a bit while the numbers of eligible current college students and incoming college students have risen sharply.

When the Republicans took full control of the state government, their solution was to cap the number of hours HOPE will pay for at 127. Most majors at my college are 123 hours. It's even more if you minor, double major, change your major, etc. What makes it even more stupid is the fact that if you take more than 12 hours a semester, you are still only charged for 12. But those extra hours still count toward HOPE, even though HOPE is not paying for them.

Friday, I got into work. Checked my e-mail. I had an e-mail from financial saying that at the end of this semester, I will no longer be eligible for HOPE because I've exceded the 123 hour maximum. For one thing, I thought that bill was killed in the legislature. Second, I thought I was grandfathered in because I was already in college at the time and I thought I had passed the maximum long ago. And what pisses me off is the fact that I was not notified until a WEEK BEFORE this semester ends. So, now, I'm scrambling to find financial aid for the fall and summer. The summer may be a lost cause as I've used up my Pell Grant funding and most scholarship deadlines for the summer have already past.

Georgia screwed me over.

financial aid in general screwed me over. Rob and i have too much money sitting in savings accounts for me to get anything except student loans. i won't get 'em because we're still paying his loans off plus two mortgages. academia in general is rediculous, and the governments aren't helping by cutting education funding.

We can pay billions and billions for a war, millions for bridges to nowhere, but to hell with college.

I still find it maddening that our president thought it more important to remove gay people's rights than to institute an actual, working energy policy or fix the education system.

That's what happens when a significant portion of voters are idiots, you get non-issues like school prayer, lapel pins, the Pledge of Allegiance, taking away gays' rights, flag burning, etc. becoming issues while things like education, healthcare, taxes, defense, etc. becoming issues.

It also doesn't help that the news media is more concerned with drama and gossip than real issues, so, divisive social issues in which arguments are much more often based on emotion, feeling, and personal morality than in proven facts, become the news stories while "boring" issues are ignored and downplayed.

It's because somewhere along the way news had to become "entertaining" otherwise nobody would watch it in the first place. Tabloid newspapers have become more about giving away DVDs than publishing good content inside.

Also, I've begun thinking that there is something very wrong with today's governments... Democracy isn't working any more but I can't think of a better way of doing it right now.

All forms of government have flaws. I'll take democracy over monarchies, dictatorships, theocracies, etc. You just need a smarter public and someone to watch over the representatives.

Deomocracy would work if people weren't idiots. i for one think America needs to take care of more domestic problems than worry about what the rest of the world is doing. yes, some nasty, evil things are going on in the world. but there are nasty, evil things going on in America too, and those are the ones that are going to destroy the nation. our infrastructure needs attention desperately. bridges, dams, and levees are structurally unsound and it's only a matter of time before one crumbles and kills thousands of people. education is in a dismal state and millions cannot afford sufficient healthcare. those are the issues we need to be fixing, not policing everyone else.

I can't speak for you guys, but over here it seems that every new law takes away some freedom, with the fight against terrorism used as an excuse.

It seems to me that the government here like to alienate the middle-classes; while getting all the (usually less-educated through no fault of their own) minorities on their side and keeping the rich happy. They seem to like taking away hereditary aspects of our country--in theory a good thing--but the House of Lords keeps government bills in-check. What if they abolished the hereditary peers and filled it full of "elected" Lords on the government payroll?

What's left intact at the moment is the monarchy, for which there is a growing number who want to abolish it. One power the Monarch does still have is the power to appoint the Prime Minister, and therefore serves as a safeguard against any would-be dictator. And I'm sorry, but the monarchy is the core of Britain's cultural identity and the foundation for our government...

If they abolished that, the remaining powers that the monarchy has would be reinvested into a new President: One man with all the power. And I think that is dangerous; especially when I don't trust the government in the first place.

CCTV everywhere, compulsory ID cards in the works, fears that everyone who happens to have a camera in their hand could be a terrorist... Is the Nanny State turning into Big Brother?

"What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists ... ?"

A smarter public is always needed to make the right descions but to do that the public has to have the will to be empowered by the truth and knowledge.

But it's "easier" to be fat dumb and happy so some people don't try and the basic foundation of society is braeking down at its core so we are raising poorer dumber children that don't know how to find the answers just the answers they already have handed to them. To fix that i don't entirely dissagree with forced serilization. We need to bring back the moral fiber from years past however that is in the process of changing and right now no one is happy about it either way.

And this is how democracy ends... to thunderous applause.

definitley. we've spread ourselves too thin and now we need to back off the world stage a bit and take care of some problems at home while still maintaining a presence in those ventures we deem the most pressing.

k...this isn't so much a rant...but anyway.

three weeks ago, i was evicted because one of my roommates hated the other, decided to move out and call the cops. apparently he knew that zak was doing drugs and thought it would be OKAY to call the cops on the apartment. i now have to appear in court for a false charge. i've already been to court once this month for the eviction. robert and i are technically homeless (i'm staying with my cousins and he's staying with friends of zak) and our poor kitties have been passed around from house to house and will continue to be until we're able to get a new place. i do kinda wish that zak had been arrested because he had been pissing me off for the last month we were in the apartment anyway. he's pissing me off even worse now, and the place where he's staying (with his friends and robert) soon won't be open to him anymore because he isn't making an effort to help out at all. i'm even making more of an effort to help there than he is.

i've been very sick for the past two weeks. i have something like hives that isn't hives or bedbugs...i'm almost certain that it's shingles but i'm going back to the doctor on thursday to tell him the treatment he gave me for hives isn't working. i am severely broke and have been living paycheck to paycheck for the past few months. i did just take a class to help me get ready for auditions in many of the theatres around the cities, but with no time to attend auditions, it was pretty much pointless. i also have the flu and my mono has kicked back up with vengeance.

i have my mom and dad constantly breathing down my back about my job and saying that i don't have enough hours and i don't make enough and that i need to get another job. i'm sorry, but we're having someone quit who just so happens to be the only other person who can work the host stand during the day (all the other hosts are in high school) and since like two month ago, i've been getting the most hours compared to all the other hosts currently employed. i AM trying to make a mother ewoking effort to become a trainer or a manager.

robert and i only have one car and we're trying to make it work for him getting a job and me still being able to make it to work every day, but it isn't very easy and hopefully he gets this job he has an interview for today because these people are known for giving cars to trainees so they can make it back and forth to whatever store their assigned to.

it's almost to the point where my dad is going to sign me off because i want to continue living with robert and he just doesn't like that idea. my mom is trying to help me all that she can but it's been getting harder and harder for both of us to keep this up. like, for instance, yesterday she told dad she was shopping for his birthday present and really she was sneaking up to see me in hastings so that i could get some gas and some cash.

i've already threatened to crawl into a hole once and i'm afraid that i'm going to again. i haven't been eating much, i haven't been sleeping well, i'm sick...and i know that my kidney stones are getting worse and that i'll need to go back in again and have another surgery. i just don't know what to do anymore...

Damn that sucks. I've been there: homeless, broke, having pets that are in just as a predicament as you, parents breathing down your neck. I hope everything works out.

really rough day at the hospital today. first, today the planets were obviously aligned to not allow gastric scans. one didn't show, one was getting a stress test, so we can't do them until the radiation from the stress test gets out of their system enough so we can see the gastric dose (30 mCi for a stress test and 500 uCi for gastric) which will be at least Saturday, probably Monday.

one little girl we did a bone scan on last week for "non-accidental trauma" AKA, abuse case. she's only 11 months old, and it's obvious whatever happened caused brain damage. her motor skills aren't where they should be, and one of her eyes is completely crossed. the other eye's about half-crossed. and from her chart, CPS has taken emergency custody of her and put her in foster care. her foster mother is the only person allowed to visit her and haven't seen ANYONE come and sit with her for any of the tests. it really makes me angry. anyway, today the docs wanted a gastric scan to see if there was any reflux and how fast her stomach was getting the food through to the small intestines. the nurses on the floor said to feed her 6 oz of formula through an nasogastric tube, so we did. she spewed it everywhere. all over the tech, the table, the floor, and herself. if the patient vomits, the test is over. luckily there isn't much radiation in one of those doses, so we didn't have a major clean-up operation and didn't have to shut the room down.

so we sent her back upstairs and brought down another inpatient who has been in and out of the hospital for severe vomiting. yup, you guessed it, he started throwing up not even ten seconds after eating the radioactive eggs. so back upstairs he goes. the other gastric was a 3 month old who screamed at the top of her lungs for the entire 2 hour scan. not just crying. screaming. you'd think we were torturing the poor kid.

and then to top it all off, we scanned a 16 year old with ovarian cancer to make sure it hadn't metastisized to her bones. i didn't see the end of that scan, but seeing a 16 year old with that kind of cancer really didn't make me feel any better. and now i'm at work, which is always SUCH a joy (not). the only bright spot is evil manager lady won't be here for most of my shift.

ARGH!

Okay, so I came into where I work to finish working on something for school. Certain programs (ie. the start menu and SPSS, the program I'm using to do my statistical analyses) will keep freezing up. Programs will randomly close. I've run a defragment on it and I've done a check for spyware. I'm running a virus check on it. But this is really pissing me off.
