indeed. despite the second amendment, i really don't think civilians need to own handguns. i mean, what are they used for other than to kill other people? and don't say protection, because if people didn't have guns, they wouldn't need guns to protect themselves.

Well now that's the great thing about America. Something doesn't have to be legal for someone to do it. Memphis is a prime example of that. 9 times out of 10, if you need help, 911 puts you ON HOLD. Meth's not legal, but Memphis is the meth lab capital of the world (literally). Carjacking isn't legal but it happens anyway. Rape is illegal but it happens anyway, hell in Memphis it's more likely to be violent rape. Gun crimes are illegal but they happen anyway. And you think most of these people shooting each other obtained their guns through purely legal channels? It's illegal to carry a concealed weapon without a license, but people in Memphis do it all the time. So guns just make things worse? So let's take away all the guns. And all the cars. And sex, let's make that illegal too, surely that'll teach them. Right? Wrong. Guns aren't used for protection? What about the carjacking victim that escapes death because he was faster on the draw than the carjacker? What about the woman raped at knifepoint with a handgun in her purse? What about the average Joe that saves a child by shooting an abductor? Now let's really go deep. What if the unthinkable happens and a war breaks out on American soil? What if the only method of survival is hunting for food and protecting a fresh water supply like a swimming pool? If there are no guns, there is no hunting for food, and no way to guard a water supply.

That truth of it is, most people that have jumped through all the legal hoops to buy their gun legally, who have gotten certified and licensed to carry, will only use their weapon in the defense of themselves, their family, and their home, as per the Constitution of this great country. Truth of it is, I myself am slowly putting money away so that I will be able to buy a gun, only after going through the proper safety classes and earning my license. And you can bet I'm going to carry it. If the population in this city feels they have a right to do or take whatever they want, then I certainly have the right to protect myself. The people that will suffer from repealing the right to bear arms are those that broke no laws concerning their weapons, either in use or obtainment.

If you want to start changing laws, don't start with the Consitution. Start locally. Start with the individual states. Start by repealing laws that protect repeat offenders and inacting those that make it murder to shoot and kill and unborn baby. Start by letting law inforcement officials do their jobs the most efficient way possible. Start by involving parents in their children's education and raising standards. Remember the days when New York City was the most dangerous city in America? Go look it up, it isn't anymore. Memphis has more violent crimes per capita than any other city in the country. In some cases, there are more crimes of a certain nature than in larger cities--straight numbers, not percentage. The sad truth is this: Memphis has historically been open to those in need--farmer looking for work, a trade center, the home of so many musical revolutions, and a place for people to start over and get a second chance at a good life. That's why there's so many songs about Memphis (it's the most sung-about city in the word). But the problem is the governing body, and I do not by any means refer to the federal government.

(Warning, political content:) When a mayor and city counsel can propose laws that tax people for working in a city whether they live there or not, violating the very basis of the American Revolution (my favorite war in world history, if you didn't know) which is (say it with me!) TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! Until the current city and county government in its entirety is voted out and replaced, Memphis had damn well better not even think about the gun issue.

Side note: I believe it was California that once offered a reward for residents that turned in their guns to the state. Nearly bankrupted the government. Clearly, they underestimated just how many guns there were in California. Attempting the same thing in Tennessee would bankrupt ANY government, not just the state. This is huntin' country, and we like our firearms.

hey, i'm with you. those who obtain and carry firearms and have jumped through all the legal hoops deserve to be able to do so. heck i've even considered getting a permit to carry concealed because of where i work. but i know if i have a gun, i'm going to want to use it. my stance is something that will never happen, and that is if humanity was kinder, we wouldn't need the guns anyway. but again, that will never happen.

But you will probably not want to use it for anything illegal.

I don't know how it is everywhere else, but I know in TN, there is harsher punishment for threatening someone with a gun than for actually firing it.

I live in the Lower East Side of New York City, which is known as the big melting pot of the city. I've got nothing against any minority at all, but ewok me, I do not get the Latin R&B that I hear down the streets every day. Apparently Spanish gibberish is a big deal in Mexico.

I still haven't figured out why people like that god-awful song "Welcome to the Black Parade." "When I was...a young boy...my father...took me to the city." Oh, god. *Kill, kill, kill.*

I can't get past that part. Although, don't they also do that song they play in the Sopranos commericals for Bravo or Spike or whoever. It goes, "Mama, we all go to hell..." I like that song.

Emo is evil, and it's destroying music.

Nah, the destroying music thing goes straight to the top. Anything MTV promotes is Satan's excrement. Emo, Rap, "R&B" (as in Usher and Beyonce, rather than Ray Charles), and pop music in general.

Beyonce and Usher are not R&B. BBKing is R&B. Trust me. He lives here. I know. Beyonce and Usher are just plain rap. Although if you want to hear "gansta" rap, try 666 Mafia, they're closer.... and they live in Memphis, too.

So does Steven Segal, Cybal Shepard, and Justin Timberlake *starts twitching at the last one* And is his mama ever a bith! The boy can't sing! He's worse than ugly, his music blows, and that whole Super Bowl thing was RETARDED!!! GET OVER YOURSELF WOMAN!!!!

ok, before we get to the subject of today's rant, i need to explain a couple things. the Mormon church is set up so that regional areas are called stakes (kinda like the Catholic archdioces (sp?)), and individual meetinghouses are wards and branches (with branches being the smaller of the two). the way the bounderies are drawn, i'm actually in one of the Indiana stakes even though i live in Kentucky. Mark is in one of the Kentucky stakes, and although we have quite a few bi-stake activities with them, there's really not too much communication between us.

that being said, every first Sunday of the month, the Young Single Adults (unmarrieds from 18-30) have a fireside (spiritual meeting type thingy). during the school year, we watch broadcasts from Salt Lake, but during the summer we usually hold it at someone's house. yesterday, we had it at our Stake President's home, which is about a 30 minute drive from where i live. Mark lives an hour away from me in the opposite direction. so, i get there and who should walk in the door but Mark. mind you, his stake had its own fireside (which would have been much closer), and he was the only person from his stake that came. then he sat across the room from me and Rob and stared at us the whole time. we never said a word to each other, but i'm really wondering how he found out about it, and what the flip he was doing there. he's starting to seem a little stalkerish, and i really just want him to leave me alone.

Tell him that if he doesn't leave you alone that you're going to file a personal protection order
