Drake 53 Posted March 28, 2007 Fuzzy Canadian File Sharing Laws: A+ Thanks to Canada's 'not legal but not illegal' stance on downloading and file-sharing, I now have a DVD quality copy of 300 and the entire soundtrack...and I didn't even have to worry about the government arresting me for doing it! I love my country! :D

Drake 53 Posted March 29, 2007 It's a DVD screener but lacking in the customary scrolling "This is for your consideration..." that appears randomly throughout the movie. How fortunate. :D

Drake 53 Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) So I saw The Condemned (with Stone Cold Steve Austin!) last night. It was pretty cool. One of those mindless action flicks, yes, but it was still entertaining. I mean...any movie with Vinnie Jones in it has to be good, right? Anyway, it's story was very similar to the Battle Royale movies (check out my reviews). In fact, I think the token asian kung-fu guy said "battle royale" in one of his bouts of Japanese shouting. Ten death row criminals are bought from third world prisons around the world and brought to a remote island where they must fight to the death. The last one left alive wins their freedom. Trick is, they only have 30 hours before the plastic explosives around their legs go *boom*. The entire thing is broadcast on the Internet for paying subscribers. So if it were a cake, The Condemned would have a generous helping of Battle Royale, mixed with a cup of Survivor, a dash of WWE wrestling and a pinch of Vinnie -ewoking- Jones. Mix and bake for an hour and 40 minutes then apply a liberal coating of killing and carnage. Ta da! One kickass movie for your enjoyment. Oh...I give it an A- Edited May 2, 2007 by Drake
Chickenman 9 Posted May 3, 2007 Starship Troopers Not the movie, the book that inspired it. I've yet to see the movie, but apparently it has little to do with the book. In fact, the director didn't even finish reading the book. Basically, the book set up the "Military Sci Fi" genre of science fiction. It takes place in a distant future where most ground soldiers fight in powered exoskeleton armor. Much of the book deals with the main character, Juan Rico, as he goes through basic training and, eventually OCS. The action scenes are...okay. To my recollection, there was nothing really noteworthy about them, though they did entertain. The most interesting part for me, was, I suppose the armor itself, and how it worked. Also fun to read about was how the Mobile Infantry of the future take parachute combat to a new level, dropping from a ship in orbit and landing on the surface of the planet. I kinda had high expectations of the book, and while it was decent, it was't the military classic I had been lead to believe. The author weighs the story down quite a bit with his political views, which, while thought provoking, are completely unecessary in a story about an average grunt in the military, and serve only to slow down the story. The focus on training was also boring, and just when you think Juan is through with basic, he decides to join OCS, which is like basic, only even more boring. Grade: C+ I'm now reading a book called "Armor" by John Steakley, which apparently takes the idea of Starship Troopers, but actually puts the main character through war, not small engagements like in Troopers. It much more focuses on the character and the psychological hells he has to go through, and not politics, and it is apparently packed with much more action. Review for that coming soon. Ayingel 24 Posted May 3, 2007 Premonition: A okay, i love sandra. i love her movies. this one, i'll admit, freaked me out in the beginning. i had no idea what the hell was going on at first, but as it went on, i was able to understand more of it. made me happy. and, after watching the movie, and seeing the ending, it wasn't a sad movie. a little creepy in the beginnning, but really, really good. Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted May 3, 2007 The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess omfg. keeping in mind that i suck at pretty much all video games, this game is a-freakin-mazing. i thought Windwaker was good, this one blows Windwaker out of the water. the story is awesome, the graphics are incredible, and the game play is addictive. i spent way longer than i should have beating the first few dungeons and didn't realize how much time had passed. i give it an A+++++++
Uncle Du 22 Posted May 4, 2007 Rocky Balboa A+ You may not like any of the Rocky movies, or Sly Stallone, but this movie is incredible. Stallone really shines through. You may think that the guy is kind of a rock, but this movie really proves that he's extremely intelligent. It was excellently written and performed. If you haven't seen it, and you haven't seen any of the others, you could still enjoy this movie. It's a lot more philosophical than the previous ones, so some might think it's boring, but the insight that Rocky has in this movie is what sets it apart from the other movies. In my eyes, this is the best out of the whole Rocky series.
