Hasbro told to stop making EU figures

Hasbro have reportedly been told to stop making action figures of characters from the Expanded Universe.

According to a report from Jedi Temple Archives, Lucasfilm has informed Hasbro to stop making new expanded universe figures, or even re-releasing old ones. So far there are only a few exceptions to this instruction; rereleases of Bastila Shan, Darth Malgus, Republic Trooper, and Starkiller have all been given the go-ahead due to poor distribution on their original run.

Hasbro will instead be focusing on the new Star Wars: Rebels line and classic trilogy characters, and while the prequel era is not off-limits we can expect to see a decrease in activity there too.

It could be that this is just a precaution while the Lucasfilm Story Group consolidates canon into one cohesive continuity, but it does seem to back up earlier rumours that the Star Wars expanded universe as we know it has its days well and truly numbered.

    • Hasbro to reissue Star Wars Monopoly

Hasbro have announced that they will reissue the latest version of Star Wars Monopoly after complaints that the board game featured no female characters.
The game, which was released in September 2015, currently features player tokens for Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker from the classic Star Wars trilogy, along with Kylo Ren and Finn from The Force Awakens. This lead to online outrage over the ommission of the main protogonist of the latest movie, Rey.
Hasbro initially stated that as the game was released several months before the release of The Force Awakens that the inclusion of Rey would have been a potential spoiler that they wished to avoid, although this doesn't explain the inclusion of Finn as a character fighting for the Resistance which is an equal spoiler in its own right.
Further to this, other Hasbro offerings have failed to include Rey, including a Millennium Falcon set that includes Chewbacca, Finn and BB-8 figurines. This lead to the hashtag #WheresRey trending worldwide, tracking Rey's absence from Star Wars merchandise in leading chain stores.
A new version of Star Wars Monopoly which includes Rey will be available later in 2016, although no release date has been confirmed so far.
    • Star Wars Rebels season 2 returns this month

Disney XD's hit TV show Star Wars Rebels is due to return this summer, and brings with it the return of a character established in the expanded universe.
The return of Star Wars Rebels will be on 20th June 2015, it has been revealed, with a one-hour long premiere episode titled The Siege of Lothal. The episode was first shown to fans attending Celebration Anaheim earlier this year, and features the return of a fan favourite character established in the former Star Wars expanded universe television series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Ahsoka Tano was the padawan of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, and in many ways she was to that series what Ezra Bridger is to Rebels. Now an experienced Jedi in her own right, it has been said that she will become a mentor figure to the young Jedi in training.
Rebels season two also sees the return of Darth Vader, with James Earl Jones reprising the role of providing Vader's voice, and this is sure to bring trouble for the crew of the Ghost as Vader seeks to hunt down his former apprentice.
