Fans campaign for a Solo sequel

Last year's Solo: A Star Wars Story may not have taken the box office by storm, and it's (relatively) poor performance undermined Disney and Lucasfilm's plans to release a new Star Wars film each year, but that hasn't stopped support for a Solo sequel from growing.

Fans have been using the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen to show their support for a follow up to the Ron Howard spin-off featuring Alden Ehrenreich as the eponymous scoundrel Han Solo. The film certainly left enough roots from which a sequel could grow, with Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra heading off to do Maul's dirty work as part of his Crimson Dawn crime syndicate.

While Solo's performance may have scuppered any chance of a big screen sequel,  the campaign did manage to get the attention of Solo's director who appeared to give the campaign his seal of approval.

Howard has previously stated his disappointment in the movie's performance, but most experts point the blame at it's closeness to the release date of The Last Jedi which did not give the marketing campaign much time to build up hype for the spin-off. While it seems unlikely that a sequel will materialise, here in the Star Wars fandom we have grown accustomed to "never say never", and after all Alden Ehrenreich did sign on for more than one film, and Emilia Clarke has finished on Game of Thrones...
