Update: Since time of publishing it has been discovered that the vacancies are for only marketing and public relations roles. The original article is preserved below for reference.

Job vacancies have appeared on the Disney Careers website that appear to indicate a return to in-house development of Star Wars games. The new positions at Lucasfilm Games include high level develop roles such as Producers and Art Directors for work on new console projects.

Developer EA Games has held exclusive development rights for Star Wars properties on most consoles since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012; this included LucasArts, which they promptly shuttered. While LucasArts released many Star Wars games over the years, EA has only managed to release two AAA titles: Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront 2, both of which have had a mixed reception.

Jedi: Fallen Order is currently still in development by EA subsidiary Respawn Entertainment, but little is known about the game at this time, although new details are expected at Celebration next month. So far more Star Wars projects have been cancelled than released, including a game by Dead Space developer Visceral, and Star Wars 1313 which was in development by LucasArts at the time it was closed.

This may indicate that Disney does not intend to renew EA's exclusive hold of the Star Wars licence. Could we see a return to the glory days of Star Wars gaming?
