Boba Fett movie in production?

Metalocalypse director John Schnepp has stated in an interview that a Boba Fett movie is already in pre-production.It was reported several months ago that Disney planned to intersperse the movies of the main Star Wars saga with spin-off films unrelated to the main story, but focusing on specific characters from the saga. As Boba Fett is perhaps one of the most loved minor characters from the classic Star Wars trilogy, it may be no surprise that Disney want to create an origin story for him.

Joe Schnepp revealed the information during a press interview where he said that he knew for a fact that one of the spin-off movies was a Boba Fett story written by Lawrence Kasdan and already in pre-production.

Fett received the origin treatment in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, when it was revealed that Boba was a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett. It is currently unknown whether a new film would explore this in more detail or take place in the gap between the classic and prequel trilogies.

With the expanded universe no longer canon, it is currently assumed that Fett's death in Return of the Jedi has been reinstated.

Saw awhile back that this was going to be one of the spin-off stand-alone films.

I'm not really sure if I'm excited for a whole movie just focused on Boba Fett. But I suppose it depends on who they get to play him (Temuera Morrison??), and which part of his life they explore. I imagine it would make the most sense to do something post-Clones/Revenge, and see him as a young adult, just getting started.

I remember hearing years ago when they were still taking about the live action TV series that Daniel Logan who played Boba in AotC was up for reprising the role. He'd be in his late 20s now, so could work in a movie set between the trilogies.

Hmm. I hadn't thought of that. And it would make more sense; though Morrison would look like all the clones/Boba, he's probably a bit too old now, lol. If they go with a younger Boba for the film.

    • Star Wars Movie Release Schedule

Lucasfilm and Disney have big plans to continue the saga across all forms of media, but for many of us it is these blockbuster hits that are the most anticipated.
This list will be updated regularly to show details of the upcoming instalments of the Star Wars saga on the big screen.
      Last update: March 2018.

      25 May 2018 - Solo: A Star Wars Story
      Directors: Ron Howard
Starring: Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Michael K Williams, Ian Kenny.
Summary: The story will focus on the early career of Han Solo, with Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca also appearing. Woody Harrelson appears in a mentoring role. Filming began in January 2017 at Pinewood Studios, UK.
Watch the official trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

20 Dec 2019 - Star Wars: Episode IX
      Director: JJ Abrams
      Starring: To be confirmed
Summary: Episode IX will continue the main saga from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and will likely conclude the story arc of the sequel trilogy. It is expected that there will be a period of time that has passed since the end of the previous film.

      2020 - A Star Wars Story
      Director: To be confirmed
      Starring: To be confirmed
Synopsis: This project was once rumoured to be based on the story of fan-favourite bounty hunter Boba Fett, and was previously assigned to Josh Trank to direct. More recent rumours favour an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off, which Ewan McGregor has stated he would be happy to reprise his role for.

Unknown - New Star Wars Trilogy
      Director: Rian Johnson
      Starring: To be confirmed
Synopsis: Shortly before the release of The Last Jedi it was announced that director Rian Johnson would be working on a new trilogy of Star Wars films that were separate from the main episodic saga. It is speculated that this will pick up on some of the themes introduced in The Last Jedi and follow a new group of young Force users.

    • Two more spin-offs confirmed

Well, we're already getting confirmation of an Obi-Wan solo film, but now Variety via Joblo.com is adding two more films to the list:
Boba Fett. And Jabba the Hutt.

Boba had been rumored for quite some time, so I don't think it's much of a surprise.
But reportedly the Jabba one was also rumored for a while (though I never heard about it?) and I think it's a bit more surprising.

So which are looking forward to more? Boba or Jabba?

I'm not much of a Boba Fett fan, but he's still more interesting than Jabba, I think.  Disney could grabbed any other ancillary Star Wars character, and it would be more interesting than Jabba, personally speaking.
Are there other characters you'd like to see get a spin-off?
    • Joss Whedon in Star Wars talks?

Joss Whedon is rumored to be in talks with Lucasfilm to sign on for a Star Wars project.
The second Star Wars Anthology film ran into trouble recently when director Josh Trank stepped down from the project. Some reports say Trank was fired from the film after disagreements with the other key production crew members. In either case Lucasfilm are on the lookout for a replacement, and the latest rumors from Latino Review indicate that they may be looking to Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon to fill that spot.
He has already expressed a desire to move on from the Marvel universe, after helming both Avengers movies and writing for Marvel's Agents of  SHIELD television series, and perhaps Disney aren't ready to let him go just yet. Another possibility is the fabled Star Wars live-action television series which has been in development limbo for a decade but occasionally pops up in a rumor, and he is no stranger to science-fiction or fantasy on TV, having created cult classics Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Dollhouse.
No official source has yet commented on these rumors as usual, so little may come of them, but even the possibility of Joss Whedon joining Star Wars is sure to excite fans.

    • Rogue One details revealed at Celebration

Celebration Anaheim attendees were treated to a special teaser of upcoming spin-off Star Wars: Rogue One this weekend.Speaking at Celebration Kathleen Kennedy and director Gareth Edwards revealed new information about the upcoming spin-off, which has only one cast member confirmed so far - Felicity Jones, who will allegedly play a Rebel soldier.

Those attending the panel were also treated to a special teaser trailer which has leaked online, which confirms the setting as being pre-A New Hope, with a plot revolving around Rebel Alliance forces retrieving the plans for the first dreaded Death Star. The teaser trailer is at this stage more of a concept reveal, as the film has not yet started shooting, but is certain to whet the appetites of eager fans.

Edwards also stated to fans that "the absence of the Jedi is omnipresent in the film. It hangs over the whole movie", and further elaborated that the difference between the good guys and the bad guys may not be so clear cut.

The spin-off movies will be known as 'Anthology' films and will be stand alone features that form part of the official canon but do not rely on the core characters of the main Star Wars saga.

Rogue One is currently scheduled for release on 16 December 2016.
