Pandora 77 Posted August 24, 2011 You too! So had a meeting with our nation sales director last night, followed by a Presidents Club night owl. I got to spend ninety minutes or so sitting and drinking and chatting with two of my business heroes. The highlights included one of the founders of the company tell me my couple of bad sales weeks are normal at my level and give me some encouragement; John, our national sales director chowing into a colleague's cold leftover t-bone king arthur style and grinning from ear to ear. The coolest thing was letting a friend and colleague of ours try on his million dollar income ring and turn him into Frodo for the night. DUDE what an incentive program! Pandora 77 Posted August 25, 2011 Yay Prin!!! I'm glad you like it! I have officially found the worst surname in the world: Faggetter. Ye gods, don't tell me it's one of your students... Nope. The friend of one of my fellow grad students. I dunno. I once had a Sandra Hamburger. Her reservation actually said Sandy Hamburger. I couldn't contain myself. I'm a teaching assistant for a class of 200 undergrads. I am BOUND to find something awesome in that buffet of sorrow. I'm a first semester grad student, one of only two in my program that got an assistanship, and I've already been offered the opportunity to teach a chapter of my choosing. :D

Bad furday 57 Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) I have a story! Gather around, children! So....little sis and I spent about *counts* nearly an hour and a half coaxing and finally (after two tries) trapping/catching a mole in our basement. I came downstairs, and sis was frantically waving me over to the large chest that our tv is on. "There's a mouse!" she cried, " a huge one!" After seeing it dart from behind the chest to a set of bookcases near the fireplace, I saw that it wasn't that big "You made me think it was the size of a rat!" I said. I grabbed the soot broom from the fireplace set- I thought that if I missed and hit sis, that would be less painful than the fire poker she kept eyeing with glee. "There!" she cried. I struck out with the broom, and it disappeared into a pile of VCR tapes and a board game in front of the fireplace. Moving the broom, I blocked one of its exits. Sis brought over this old Lego bucket that I had destined for the recycling. She placed it on the other side of the broom. "I'll try to scare it into the bucket!" I said. The creature - we still hadn't determined what it was, despite all its scurrying- ran towards a gap between the bucket and the tapes, but sis didn't react in time, and the creature ran free. ... a few minutes later, we were armed with cheese. We still thought it was a mouse. Sis held the Lego bucket. She spotted the creature creeping under the large door strip to the outside door, and tried to scoop up the animal with the bucket. The creature scurried under the closed door to the furnace room- presumably where it had come from, as we've caught several mice there over the years. We were going to call it off and buy some of those new traps tomorrow, and started to pack things away. I walked over to where the door to the furnace room was, holding cheese in my hand. I thought the mouse thingy might reappear, but more importantly, sis had NCIS on the tv, and I hate that show. "shame we have to throw it out, but it's all hairy" I thought. Movement caught my eye, and I spotted the mouse creeping along the bottom of the doorframe to the outside again. I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter I sprang forth after putting down the cheese and picking up the bucket. I slammed the bucket down ontop of the rodent, and heard a loud squeak. Even sis heard it. I thought that maybe i'd hit it with the bucket so hard, it was unconscious, but that was not the case. We slipped a piece of paper under the bucket, and taped it so that it wouldn't come off when it was flipped over. Poking a medium size hole in the paper ( so I could take pics) it was determined that this was infact a mole. We'd had mole problems for quite some time when I was a lad, but then it all seemed to die down. This mole was a surprise. .... Sis and I took the mole out to the woods behind the house. The original plan was to fling an unconscious mole at a broad tree, and that'd be the end of him ( see that biker scout in RoTJ who smacks a tree with no bike under him). Unfortunately, our mole was very much alive. Sis began stabbing away through the paper on the bucket, in a sort of "Lord of the Flies" type of zealous glee. She then stopped. "Do you think I should kill it?" she asked. "I say just fling it off into the woods as fast as you can!" I responded. "But then it might come back to the house" she reasoned. We were right next to the creek. "I know!" I said, "We'll carry it over the water, and set it loose over there- it can't cross the water" With all the rain we've had, the creek was moving too fast for the mole to simply cross at a dry point- there weren't any left. Water wasn't fast enough to be a danger to us though. Sis and I made it across, and clambered up the opposite bank. There, sis flung the mole ( though maybe it wasn't a mole- it had the face of a mole, but a semi long tail- I thought moles had short tales...a vole perhaps?) out into the woods. It spun several times before faceplanting into a patch of plants and grass. We did get some cool rocks from the expedition- I'll post pics laters. :) Edited August 26, 2011 by Bad furday
Sin 2 Posted August 26, 2011 I wanna see pics...yippee for story time. The 7. Voicesvin my head still won't stop fighting
Pandora 77 Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) That is an excellent story! You should have put the critter in a baggy and slammed it into a wall as hard and fast as you could; it would sever its spine and kill it instantly. It's the most humane way to kill a small animal like that without euthanasia or those nifty little rat guillotines they use in labratories. My parents and I got to have dinner with Kyle at Bahama Breeze tonight, which was AWESOME but more importantly, we got to spend about two hours with him and no other distractions while he coached us. This is a big deal because he is one of the founders of our company and makes six figures a month just on override (i.e., permanent) income. We got to spend time learning how to make a ton of money from a millionaire that made it on his own blood and sweat. TOTALLY freaking cool!!!! *is stoked* Edited August 26, 2011 by Pandora
Pandora 77 Posted August 27, 2011 So tomorrow Daniel leaves for Oklahoma for a job interview Monday morning. We need to scramble to get his resume fluffed and submitted to some local places before he goes. There is a real possibility that he will get this job in Clinton, OK. If the money's right, it's good. We've been living off of less than $200 a week lately because of his job sucking so bad. The unfortunate thing is I can't go with him. I'm stuck here in school for two more years minimum. *sighs*
