I have unfortunately never had the pleasure of visiting the island.

I'm sure we can have ice cream wherever we hold the GB meetup.

It's an island in Lake Huron up in the Straits of Mackinaw. The kicker is that no cars are allowed on the island, horses and bikes are the main forms of transportation.

I could deal with riding a horse around.. but not a bike. I hate cyclists with a burning passion.

Dunno if you ride 'em... I think it's just carriages.

But I've never been there, either. :p

i despise the ones that don't follow the rules of the road, but the responsible ones aren't bad. but horses would be way more fun than bikes anyway.

And you can all fly into MBS International Airport and I'll pick you up and at least 4 people can cram into my car for the ride up to the Island. Though it would be cheaper to stay in the city and just go over to the Island daily

We're supposed to have an above average winter this winter. :p

Is that above average temperature, or above average snowfall? :p

I vote somewhere Southern... Atlanta, Charleston, Savannah... somewhere less likely to get snowed in. :p

Above average temperature, below average snowfall. :p

We got over 100 inches last winter, supposed to get only about 80 this year. :D

Anyway... I vote for somewhere I could possibly drive to. :p

Ideas on how long? A weekend? A whole week? By then I'll have been at my job for 5+ years, so I'll have a bit more vacation time to play around with.

Thinking *gasp*... Central locations in the US that are easy to get to from really anywhere would be any hub city along the Mississippi River: Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans. Atlanta's not bad, but the airport can be a mess (still holding a grudge). Y'all already decided against Chicago (which I'm fine with because 2012 is an election year and that's where the main presidential canidate is from). Memphis in February is disgusting and icy and terrible. What about New Orleans? It'll be chilly but not icy. There's plenty to do (barring another massive hurricane, knock on wood). Those of you in the states, if you don't want to fly into New Orleans, you can fly into Shreveport or Memphis even and rent a car. Couple hours tops from Shreveport, five if you're my grandmother driving from Memphis.
