"Thanks. I think I'll head over to the shooting range anyway. Blast holograms until I get too tired to do so."

When they reached the lifts that would take Nat back to his room, Tak said farewell and parted ways. He started towards the shooting range, made it halfway there, then thought better of it and made his way to the medlab, looking to see if Nima was around.

Deign wondered briefly if he should have expected Layla to try reasoning with him. He kept his exterior steady and shook his head once. "Honestly, Layla, if you think all I've become is some power-grubbing monster, you're wrong. But I do like to be in control of the situation, and the last time I let you get all cleaned up, you tried to bolt on me and I can't have that again." He tightened his grip on her hands. "But I'll make a deal with you. Just tell me where Sena is and then we'll talk about another shower for you."

Szen slumped down into a chair on a balcony. It had been an interesting day. She'd been pulled from some twisted form of relaxation only to find out that vacation time had been cut short and the base had been compromised. This surely wasn't what she had bargained for. At least I got some aggression out. She made a fist with her new hand and unclenched it. "I really hope Layla's okay." Szen stared out at the familiar landscape of Coruscant and sighed.

"I meant control, and I'm still trying to figure out that monster part myself." She said with a slight smirk of amusement. "Deign, I'm not giving her up for a shower. You just went on about how I'd be hard to crack and then you think I'll give in that easily?"

Layla sighed, turning her hands a bit to release some of the strain Deign was putting on them. She tilted her head just slightly to the side, her dark red curls sliding down her shoulder. When she spoke she was calm but resigned. "What if I promise not to run this time? Even if you don't trust me you can lock the door, or have guards stationed outside of your appartment. Whatever you need to do. But let me get a shower and a fresh set of clothes. I'll even let you pick them out yourself." She said with a small smirk. She was producing pheromones, hoping that they would have some affect on his decision. She needed to get out of this five by five cell, if only for a little while. "We can sit down over a glass of brandy or something and have a nice civilized conversation. Work out a deal. You'll still be in control, I won't be able to leave, but it will be a whole lot friendlier an enviornment for me. Do this for me Deign, for old times' sake."

Takeshi went to the medlab but didn't see Nima there. He had planned to apologize but it appeared now that she had failed to follow his orders in coming here. She and Atuarre were no doubt drinking again. He found a meddroid and got some sleeping pills before returning to his quarters.

Once in the privacy of his room, Tak stripped off his armour, briefly cleaned it, then popped the recommended amount of pills, plus two, into his mouth. He deactivated the lights and lay atop the covers on his bed. When the drugs finally took hold, Tak fell into a fitful sleep filled with haunted dreams about losing the one he loved most forever.

***

Tak woke up the next morning covered in a light layer of sweat. Looking at the bedside chrono, it read 0610, meaning he had gotten a good five hours of sleep. He took a shower then got dressed and suited back up into his armour. Once freshened up, he left his room and made way to the cafeteria for breakfast.

Brier groaned as her husband shook her awake.

"Brier. It's time to get up." Even his soft voice made her wince. "Let's go get some food in you, see if that helps the hangover."

Brier groaned again and tried to roll back over, pulling pillows over her head.

"Brier."

"Fine." She rolled out of bed, and stumbled to the shower to get cleaned up. She let the water hit her face for a long while, slowly coming around to the waking world. The shower alone made her feel a hundred times better. As she was getting out of the shower, she called through the closed door, "Did you get the droids to fix up the ship yet?" She wrapped a towel around her as she walked out to find a clean outfit to wear.

"Yeah." Zak looked away from his datapad as he responded. "They worked on it all night, Brier. It's already cleaned up."

She glanced at him, and sighed as she picked out an outfit and went back into the bathroom to change and fix her hair. Coming out a bit later, she sat on the edge of the bed and began pulling on her boots to get ready to go.

Zak grinned as he got up, making sure their stuff was completely packed. "You look like you feel better now." He laughed as Brier gave him an 'you have no idea' look.

She sighed and stood, streching as she looked around the room. "Alright... want to have Kaysie take the bags out to the ship and make sure the droids are ready for the ride and passengers while we have some food?"

Zak nodded and went to find the wayward droid, finding her outside chatting with others of her kind. After giving the droid her instructions, they locked up the room and the droid went one way with their bags, while Zak and Brier headed to the cafeteria, enjoying the walk. Even though they were much farther away from the cafeteria than the others, it was a nice way to spend some quiet time together and wake up a bit more before dealing with people for the day.

The pair walked into the large room, sighing as they smelled the wonderful aroma of food hitting them in the face. Zak had adopted the true swagger of a self-respecting Corellian as he walked through the cafeteria, whereas Brier was a bit more reserved but no less Corellian looking in her pant and vest set. They both had nice, worn looking clothing that fit them well, and looked as if it had seen much use. However, as such, neither one really fit into the cafeteria they were currently visiting.

Zak glanced at the food as they got in line. Dryly, "Mmm. Looks better than anything you've ever made... OW!" He laughed as she gently whapped him upside of the head.

"See if I make you dinner again, nerfherder." Brier rolled her eyes and got her own meal as well.

The next morning after a quick stop in the 'fresher and a change of clothes, Kaden gathered his things into his small carry-on shoulder bag and left his room. He was hungry but wanted to check on Artie first before going to the cafeteria.

He eventually found his droid hanging out with some of the other droids on base. And, after making sure Artie wasn't any more flush with credits than he was when he left him the night before, Kaden headed down the hall to the cafeteria. Artie would be okay for another couple of hours.

In line, he piled his tray full of food and then looked for a place to sit. Kaden recognized Brier's husband Zak, and herself, from his brief stay at their house. He walked over to their table and sat down across from them.

He smiled. "Morning."

Groggily, Jaim woke up, shaved, and put on a fresh set of clothes with some difficulty. Finally setting it all right, he walked down to the cafeteria. He took one look at the food and shuddered, taking a large cup of caf instead. He walked over to where his wingmate and Brier were sitting.

He sat down, looking rather like a sack of tubers being dropped. "Morning," he mumbled to no one in particular.

The next morning Nima was down in the medlab bright and early boxing up the extra supplies that she'd ordered that hadn't arrived before she'd gone out the night before. She was checking the meddroid's log when she notice that it had signed out a bottle of sleeping pills to Tak. "Interesting," she commented. She'd seen Captain Tunon coming back to the base just a few steps ahead of her and Artuarre last night and assumed if anyone was going to need help sleeping, it'd be him, not Tak. She'd checked with the quartermaster upon returning and when she learned that they were still getting everything that she'd requested together, she headed up to the room that she shared with Jya and wasn't surprised to find herself alone. "At least Jya has Arlan." She'd fallen into a light sleep and woken up early to head down to check her supplies. After throwing in a couple of extra stim shots and a couple of datacards containing the latest information on repairing cybernetic body parts, she headed upstairs to the cafeteria for breakfast.

Brier smiled as Kaden sat down. "Morning." She raised an eyebrow as Jaim plopped down at the table as well. "And morning to you, Chipper." Zak raised a lazy hand in greeting as he continued to fill his face with the cafeteria food. Brier just sighed and half rolled her eyes.

Zak, seeing the motion, looked at her and shrugged. "What? I was eating!" Brier just shook her head and continued to eat her food at a much slower pace.

Looking at the two men that had sat down, "How are you doing?"

Nima grabbed some food and headed over to her squadron mates. She raked a critical eye over Jaim. "Boy, and I'm the one who got yelled at by Lt Beskar last night for drinking. Want a cure for that look Jaim?"

Szen wandered into the cafeteria. She hadn't eaten anything since the day before, and she was finally feeling it. After getting a tray, she saw a few of her squadmates sitting with someone she couldn't quite put her finger on. Heading over, it donned on her. The man who showed us around Ithyari? Coming up to the Captain, she cleared her throat. As Brier turned around, Szen scowled. "What the hell is going on here?"

Brier had the perfect face of innocence. "Whatever are you talking about, Miss Brǽnen? We're having breakfast... unless it's illegal, care to join us?"

Zak snorted and kept his head down, still eating and not looking at Szen.

Szen narrowed her eyes at her superior. "Who is he, really?"

More than aware of the sudden gazes on her person, Brier shrugged casually. "Who?"

Szen dropped her tray onto the table and grabbed the man's shoulder, straightening him up. "Him. Obviously there's something more than just a game of Sabacc going on here, and I want the story." Szen, realizing she was still holding onto their former guide, loosened her grip. Looking around, she saw the entire cafeteria staring at them. She lowered her voice. "Ma'am."

Casually, her voice calm and soothing and at a quiet speaking level, "Miss Brǽnen, please, have a seat." Brier sighed and glanced at the others out of the corner of her eye, noticing that she had everyone's attention. She really wished Szen would have picked a better place to have this discussion... and somewhere where she wasn't having her soul stared into. "Now, calm down or I won't tell you anything."

Zak, smartly, kept his mouth shut, even as he looked around at everyone staring at them, deciding to let Brier take care of this.

Szen took in a couple of deep breaths. "Sorry. I'm still pretty...frustrated." She closed her eyes and took in one more breath. She pulled over a chair and sat down. "Please. What is going on here." The man started to say something. "I'm not talking to you right now, go back to eating."

As Zak almost said something again, Brier snapped her fingers, and pointed down at the food in front of him. He shut up instantly, but was visibly on guard and watching the two women with an obvious unease.

Brier put down her fork and leaned against the table, her arms casually crossed on it. "How about you start from the beginning so I can figure out what it is we're talking about?" Her voice was unnaturally soft and even.

Szen sighed. Pointing at the man, she began. "He was introduced to me as Kier Taylor, a smuggler who's house you won in a game of Sabacc. Just how much of that is true?"

Both Brier and Zak grinned at this, but at a glare from Szen, wiped it off his face once more.

Brier sighed and didn't answer for a moment, looking away as she collected her thoughts before speaking, uncomfortable at the looks they were getting, even from strangers who had heard Szen yelling at her. Finally, she looked back at the younger girl. Very slowly, each word carefully thought out before she spoke. "Yes. I introduced him as Kier Taylor... you have a good memory. His name is Zak Novar. He is a smuggler. And in a way, I did win his house during a game of Sabacc on Nar Shadda."

"What do you mean?" She looked back and forth between the two of them. I hope this isn't more than I need to really know...

Zak sighed and spoke in a very dry voice, "She means, she said 'yes'. And I've regretted it ever since. OW!" He mock glared at Brier, who just shook her head and looked up to the heavens as if they'd help her out.

Finally, it all clicked in Szen's head. "Married? But, doesn't that cause some issues? An officer and a smuggler?" She shook her head. "Never mind. It does explain the kiss, though." She picked aimlessly at the mess that was now her food. I'm not sure if I should... "I'm sorry." Szen didn't know if she really was or not. "You're not hiding a kid in here too, are you?"

Zak shrugged. "The kids are at home with the family."

Brier shrugged. "I'm a black ops Intel officer." She sighed and tried to collect her thoughts before speaking again. "I just have a legalized smuggling job, and I'm gathering information instead of goods. The New Republic uses me and my contacts with full knowledge of my ... smuggling ties. It's one reason they assigned me to you instead of someone else. I don't mind being illegal, and I'm not going to squirm if I have to deal with the underworld organizations. I know many Intel officers that would flip out if they had to do this job. Especially with histories of several people here." She shifted uncomfortably, and Zak idly rubbed her back with one hand as they sat there.
