Chickenman 9 Posted April 22, 2009 So it was a lot like sex. I finished early and everyone laughed at me. So today in school we had to do presentations, and I let slip to my teammates that I was doing stand-up tonight. They thought it was great and one said he'd try to make it. We do our presentation blahdy blah. Then another group starts having technical difficulties, so we're all sitting around bored. That's when my team decides to tell my entire class that I'm doing stand-up tonight. After ten minutes of begging (including chants!) I gave in to the peer pressure and embarassedly stepped to the front of the class...and ewoking KILLED. It was incredible. My teacher was crying from laughing so hard. It was awesome. Everyone wished me luck, and I moved on to my next class. So then I arrive at the club and start hanging around with my friends before the show. I sit around, laugh at some comics, courtesy laugh at others. My friends go up and do some killer sets, and I just wait for my shot. Before I go up, the MC pulls me aside, gives me some advice, and tells me he's not telling the audience that this is my first time. I guess that way I earn all of my laughs. No courtesy giggles. He gives me a great introduction, I walk up, and launch into my set. I hit a few snags, temporarily losing my place before seamlessly returning back to my set, or even starting a joke the wrong way but recovering. And again, I ewoking killed. Not as much, but it was damned Nirvana. 3 minutes into my set I realize I've gone through my prepared 5 minutes, so I have to reach back and use my less rehearsed material, which again, came out pretty seamless. I was loving it. Finally I ended my set and walked off to goddamned cheers. My friends congratulated me and immediately invited me to an open mic that they'll be doing in Boston next week. I couldn't have said yes faster. The show finally ends and I s*** you not, every single comedian in the room congratulates me and tells me that they're floored that that was my first time.
