Drake 53 Posted November 12, 2008 Canada will be pulling out all forces in Afghanistan by 2011 so that might be part of it. :p
Chickenman 9 Posted November 12, 2008 Yeah but surely that just means that they'll just be moving troops around, not pulling them back home. I am 100% for putting troops in Iraq. 200, 300, 400% and more. Better he bring troops out of Iraq and into Afghanistan than vice-versa. That's assuming the Iraqi government is ready to defend itself, which, by many accounts they have been for awhile, and by other accounts, they're not even close. We'll see. And I applaud Obama for continuing the search. Much better than George "I truly am not that concerned about him," Bush or John "I will follow him to the gates of Hell" (but not Pakistan!) TheUnknown 39 Posted December 1, 2008 http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/11/30/...#socialcomments Looks like the Conservative government in Canada may fall.
Drake 53 Posted December 1, 2008 Regardless of whether or not the coalition succeeds, it's definitely scaring the Conservatives into getting stuff done. The Bloq is a major player for this too. They would have sway on all decisions since they could theoretically go either way. One thing is for certain, though, not many are happy about a possible government dissolution and re-election so soon after the last one.
TheUnknown 39 Posted December 1, 2008 That's what I've heard. If they do have to run another election, how do you see things going? Do you think the Liberal-NDP coaltion would also agree to take on the Greens, too? Might they pick up enough seats to not have to worry about the Bloq?
Drake 53 Posted December 1, 2008 The Green Party has no seats at all and I don't know if they would be ready to tackle another election so soon. They wouldn't be a very big margin at all, if they did win seats.

Chickenman 9 Posted December 26, 2008 Some good news and some bad news for music file sharers/ I'm glad the RIAA is goint to stop the lawsuits, but they're still being dicks.
CorSec 5 Posted December 27, 2008 Getting sued by the RIAA was like winning the lottery; except it sucks. The chances of them picking you specifically were so low that the lawsuits weren't a deterrent.
Drake 53 Posted December 27, 2008 They really only went after the heavy downloaders so unless you were constantly downloading movies and music, you really weren't in danger of anything.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted December 28, 2008 i think that if they really want to stop file sharing, they'd go after those who run the software. get Limewire or BitTorrent shut down, and that would put a dent in illegal downloads.
Drake 53 Posted December 28, 2008 No it wouldn't. How did those programs get started? They shut down Napster. Then they shut down who-knows-how-many other programs after that. If they take down a major sharing network, more will spring up in its place. People can be persistant when it comes to free things.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted December 28, 2008 this is true. however, one would think going after the software would have a greater effect than going after individual users. we've been trying to get Limewire blocked at work. 'tis only a matter of time before a virus slips through since IT doesn't like to update anything.
Andy 60 Posted December 28, 2008 It's very hard to prosecute someone for making file sharing software, because there are so many legitimate things you can share. The prosecution would have to prove that the the developers made the software intending it to be for illegal purposes; which I imagine there would be very little hard evidence for. When someone uses a Ford Transit van to rob a bank, the police don't go and shut down Ford. lol
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted December 28, 2008 then the RIAA should just give up. obviously there's no way they're ever going to stop illegal file sharing. just legalize it and get rid of the problem altogether. although, i'm curious. know anyone who uses Limewire for legitimate purposes? i would think job related file sharing would be done through a server over a closed network, or people would use flash drives if necessary. Andy 60 Posted December 29, 2008 There is plenty of licence-free music (unsigned artists etc), shareware games, and open source software that can be legitimately shared through these applications. People who are going to steal things are going to steal them some way. Piracy is pretty much impossible to stop altogether.
Bad furday 57 Posted December 29, 2008 And speaking of Ford Transits, there's no way I could watch new and more importantly, current shows of Top Gear a day after it airs without the help of LimeWire ;) :D
