Debate: Stem Cell Research

Probably more than you think.

And really.. that's kind of like sperm donation, as well. What women want to put some guy's strange genes in her when she can have someone she knows personally?

And for those couples who really want to have a child, sometimes the cheapest way is to adopt an embryo, instead of spending the money on treatments or to go throw the process of regular adoption.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's horrible how many orphans there are, but those embryos shouldn't be just killed or thrown away either.

And I can't answer that fairly, as I don't really want to have children, in any way.

I realize that many women would. And they're saints, if they do. But it's probably not a large percentage of the populus as to make a difference.

It's not at all like a sperm donation. You're implanting a half-baby inside of you. That's a bigger step than semen inside of you. That happens ever day, with millions of couples around the world. I guarantee they don't shove fetuses into each other as part of lovemaking. People swallow sperm in porn videos. No one swallows a fetus. They're two entirely different things.

And that's what we're saying, that the embryos shouldn't be just thrown away!

And I doubt the embryo thing is substantially cheaper. There's an operation where it would be inserted, then the operation where it comes out, as well as the rest of it's life. Orphans don't require expensive surgeries where they're inserted into your uterus. Or taken out. They're pretty cheap that way.

I think both options are really really expensive. Most people I know who were unable to have children for whatever reason have adopted from overseas (China, Korea, Russia, etc.) because it is marginally cheaper (and apparently easier) than domestic adoption (domestic meaning adopting from USA to USA). I'm not certain if domestic adoption or test-tube-babyage is cheaper...

I'm against abortion, although I do understand that it is legal, and an option many people choose.

So I understand that taking stem cells from these placentas, in which the baby is already going to be killed is at least doing some good. As a future organ donor, at least something comes from the death.

And I'm Pro Adoption in any rate. I actually plan on adopting when I'm older, although I want children of my own too. But there are too many children out there already that need someone to take care of them, and I'm the kind of person who can't sit back and not help.
