Ana 15 Posted July 26, 2007 LiveJournal has features beyond blogging. Most specifically, it has community features, where you join up if you have similar interests. LJ is where my pocket of BoB fandom lives, just like this is where my pocket of SW fandom lives. You bet I was going through fandom withdrawal.
Ender 8 Posted July 26, 2007 Great show, Band of Brothers. I've got my DVD's around somewhere.
Tsl 7 Posted July 27, 2007 Damn! I'm the only poor sap in Ohio then! I need to move.... lol. I want to live in Wyoming or someplace.
TheUnknown 39 Posted July 27, 2007 So, I'm still looking at grad schools. I still have some time to prepare (I hope I don't waste it.). I still need to take the GRE. Many schools require a writing sample, and I'm have two ideas for primary research papers (one on down-ballot voting and the other on Internet campaigning). So, far, I've looked at Brown, Northwestern, U. of Pittsburgh, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina @ Chapel Hill, California @ Santa Barbara, Washington, New York University, Cornell, Columbia, Virginia, American University, Southern Cal, Boston University (not to be confused with Boston College), Emory, Georgia State, Oregon, University of Chicago, and Illinois @ Chicago. There are plenty more I want to look into, although I'm going for something on the upper coasts, with some exceptions. I still need to study the nuts and bolts of the programs, housing, financial aid, and entertainment. But right now, my favorites are Washington, Northwestern, and Pittsburgh. I'm getting close to having to make a big decision: do I want to go out of state and risk being lonely all the damn time or still in-state and risk hating myself for missing out on the opportunity to live somewhere like Seattle, New York, Boston, Chicago area, etc.? And one day, I ordered Chinese takeout. My fortune cookie was one of the kind that have the fortune on one side and the translation of an English word into Chinese. The fortune said "You will take a chance in the near future." The word in English? Student.
Vergere 1 Posted July 27, 2007 What's your major? The GRE SUCKS! Just so you know. I did horrible when I took it last month -- needless to say I need to take it again, and get a much much better score. Good for you, wanting to expand your horizons! Me.... I'm a wimp. I'm attempting to stay in the midwest. :-P How are the grad schools down south? Anything good or interesting for history geeks?
Mara 29 Posted July 27, 2007 Damn! I'm the only poor sap in Ohio then! I need to move.... lol. I want to live in Wyoming or someplace. Ha. I'd like to go out to Wyoming, as well. Haha, I'm so glad I didn't want to go to grad school. But in less than 4 weeks my friend starts her classes down at Marshall.. and then I won't get to see her for a long time. Princess 35 Posted July 27, 2007 Michigan, That's only like an hour and a half away from me. I'm looking at the programs offered by UofM Flint right now. I think that my father may disown me.
TheUnknown 39 Posted July 28, 2007 What's your major? Political Science--hince the papers on voting and campaigning. The GRE SUCKS! Just so you know. I did horrible when I took it last month -- needless to say I need to take it again, and get a much much better score. The GRE is just one of the many things I'm not looking forward to, in addition to comprehensive exams, writing and defending a dissertation. How are the grad schools down south? Anything good or interesting for history geeks? Well, I'm also a history major (but I figure political science as more of a future in terms of job opportunities than history. Plus, I can think of research topics more in political science than history). Anyways, Georgia and Emory have history programs. Emory, which is in the nicer part of Atlanta, has the Carter Center and the Carlos Museum which has things like real mummies on display.
Pandora 77 Posted July 28, 2007 Good luck, Unknown. I did happen to notice Vanderbilt wasn't on your list. Hmm, wonder why. I think that, educationally, I'm a slacker, but when it comes to work, I'm an over-achiever. So I'll finish my associates with Phoenix, then hope I get added to the Lancome payroll (no more department store for me!) as a trainer or something, and let the company pay for my next degree. The last training seminar I went to was overseen by a guy who'd been with Lancome for 20 years. Started as a beauty advisor (like me) and then the next thing he knows, Lancome has promoted him to regional trainer and is sending him to get his education degree.... for free! Or if I'm really really good at what I do.... I'll get to travel with one of the artists. Like Robert (national make-up artist for the southeastern US). Oh lord, the places I could see, the people I could meet.... and the money I could make. *sighs*
Ender 8 Posted July 28, 2007 Come to the 212, Unknown! If we can lure Rogue into the city from Joysey, we'll create havoc. :D

Uncle Du 22 Posted July 31, 2007 Afternoon! I was on hiatus cause I forgot how to type and had to re-learn before I came back. I assume nothing insane has happened in my absence? Well, other than the normal insanity...
