Ugh, it's at times like this I hate our computer. See, it came with XP already installed, and no CD, To download a patch, you need a CD key. Do you know how many different XP pataches there are? And we have none. Whatsoever. Because we don't have a CD key, which makes me wonder is PC World isn't pirating XP across it's computers.

Of course, I actually have a pirated XP on my computer, but since that doesn't have intner access I don't have much to fear, except Norton Antivirus bugging me tfor online updates I blatantly can't get without an internet connection.

You don't need a CD key to download updates. The auto-updater handles it all... I'd go speak to PC World. They should be able to sort it out, although they aren't really the best place to buy a PC from.

Each time we try to download patches it asks for a CD key.

Oh, we finally spoke to PC World. They said this was their policy. If you need a patch you have to phone them. This means they get money out of sending people patches. Ri-ight... Sounds a bit dodgy legally to me, but it's not as though I've got anything to base that assessment on.

Yes... That does sound dodgy, I'd check up about that if I were you, perhaps drop MicroSith a line?

Okay dear, i'm going to teach you the special techniques that the grand master ying bill chin gates taught me.

You may need a pen and paper for this, it's tricky.

To find out your CD key you must, first, RIGHT click on MY COMPUTER - (Do not left click. hard, no?)

Then, click on PROPERTIES.

Go to GENERAL

There will be a code under the "Registered to"

This code is your CD KEY.

:)

Took me 2 years of computer schooling to work that one out.

Windows 98 = Better than XP because no one cares about 98 anymore.

Actually, most viruses will attack either OS, but the XP ones get more attention, because they exploit bugs in the code.

i heard there's a virus going around in a message titled "A Card For You" or something like that.

So when I see an email that say's "a card for you" instead of being blissfully excited about getting a card from someone, and should instead fear for my computer's safety?
