LOL

I've been watching the weather channel and all, and I've noticed some of your FB posts. How are things down there right now?

It's literally rained for like nine days straight and still supposed to rain tomorrow. Light rain, heavy rain, moderate rain, light mist, with thunder and lighting, without thunder and lightning, with wind, without wind, we've had it all. Today was the first day where I was worried. The night before, my aunt was driving and had water come up to the bottoms of her windows. She drives an SUV. The most recent report I've seen have said six have died. Bridges and roads are collapsing. They had to close campus today and tomorrow because the main road outside of it is flooded.

Bad furday

And thusly, did young Unknown move to New Mexico...where flooding and rain for multiple days on end were as common as Fox News supporting Obama ;):)

Right?

*looks at pics more*

Well....I see the church sign managed to be saved.

*sees everyone groan*

yes. :p

And that lady doesn't watch enough scifi/horror movies. Everyone knows not to leave their car when there is something dangerous outside!

yeah, we got hit with that back in August. thankfully ours wasn't as bad this time, but we still had some minor flooding issues especially in Indiana.

the wonderful state of Kentucky has decided a stretch of I-65 needs to be taken down to bedrock and repaired. granted, it does desperately need repairing, but the ensuing traffic SNAFU doesn't seem to make it worth it. the construction crews had equipment trouble last night so only 1 lane was open to motorists this morning. during rush hour. 65N was backed up over 20 miles last i heard trying to squeeze through a 2.5 mile stretch of highway.

now, i wasn't stupid enough to try to get to work on 65 this morning. i did the smart thing and planned an alternate route. except everybody else picked my alternate route, too. my drive to work usually takes about 30 minutes. 45 if there's a wreck. today took me almost an hour. it took 45 minutes for me to go less than 2 miles. and this is just the beginning. *grumble*

Something else about this rain: this is all in Atlanta and the suburbs, not some far-flug rural areas. The damage estimates are going to be huge.

I feel your pain JM. Southbound I-675 is closed right now and it makes me kind of glad that I'm off of work right now because they have the detour taking you all the way down to northbound. But I had a nice easy alternate route all figured out that only took me 5 more minutes to get to work. Then they closed my alternate route so that they could do work on overpasses over the road that I was taking. Then it took me twice as long to get to work as it did usually.

It's been more than 12 weeks, they can fill my position but they'll keep me listed as an employee for a year so that I can apply for positions internally

Holy sith dude, that's insane. Were those pictures taken by you or family?

My mom talked to one of the U of M doctors on Monday and they still think that it's something in my abdominal wall but not sure what since every test was negative. I don't know what I'm going to do

No, I lifted them from various news sites. I tried to get some from here on campus, but they were flash or something (as in not jpegs). There's one of the bottom level of one of the parking decks flooded. Another showing the flood waters at the steps of the Social Sciences building. I didn't realize it until today, but the location of those flood waters meant part of the Social Sciences building flooded. I was in there today. They ripped up the carpet and had fans blowing everywhere to prevent mold and mildew.

There are other pictures of a flooded house burning down. There's also apparently a 9-1-1 tape of a woman drowning.

So, apparently being a good employee doesn't mean jack sith where I work. My job has been posted because I'm sick and my manager won't even give me two more weeks before she thinks about hiring someone. Told me today that when I can come back without restrictions, then we'll talk. I feel like I'm getting fired because I'm sick.

can we say, "labor board"? ;)

seriously. give your local labor board a call and see what they can do for you. which reminds me, Du, how is the fight with your wife's employers going?

What about state laws?

Yea, call the EEOC. There may be something they can do. There's a lotta different state laws that you may not know about.

And JM, right now, there is no fight. Nat's doctor put her on early maternity leave. She hasn't been there in about a month, but she still technically works there. We've been paying the monthly insurance premiums that we need to do. At this point, there's not going to be anything else we can do unless we suddenly come in to a lot of money. I dunno.

I don't know what to do. I'm thinking about emailing the labor law teacher I had earlier this year. Maybe there is something that can be done because of an implied contract or something

Stupid ewoking disability insurance company deciding that even though they are not doctors, and the nurse case manager looked over my chart, that I could have worked the past month and so they are not going to pay me for the past month. They feel that I want to be off work, yeah right since I'm about to lose my job because of this

grrrr. make the stupid stop. two computer illiterate trying to apply for jobs online and asking questions at every. single. step. how hard is it to click in the boxes, type what it tells you, and click the continue/next buttons at the end. and for the love of Yoda, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! it's asking you if you've ever been terminated from a job and layoffs are not considered terminations. you've been laid off. ok. then the answer is no. you didn't graduate highschool, but you have a paper indicating you passed "a li'l school thing." sounds like a GED equivalent, which happens to be one of your choices. a little reading comprehension, people. it's not that difficult.

and the smelly guy who keeps making stupid requests, like for me to write down every single video website in existance, and has just now discovered GoogleEarth and wants to know where some street in Houston is, will you PLEASE shut up and go away. i told you how to find your little street in Houston. click in box. type in street and city. press enter. somehow this is difficult for you to comprehend. maybe if you had your listening ears on, you could find your way out of a wet paper bag without my constant assistance.
