I'm about to flunk out of a great college that I don't even belong going to. I never socially developed to the point that I can fit in with society. I can't meet people or hold a simple ewoking conversation. I have no real world skills I can apply in any way to anything. I'm the most incompetent person I know. I have no redeeming qualities. I've done nothing but waste the past 19 years. I've thrown them away, and they're supposed to be the foundation of the rest of my ewoking life?

Dude, believe me when I say, there are far worse things in life that can happen to you. It really is the truth. For everyone that thinks they are so bad off, there are dozens more that are worse off. You really gotta stop seeing the negative not only in life, but in yourself. You DO have redeeming qualities. If you were such an utter failure as you think you are, how would it possible for any of us to like you? Seriously. You think there's a difference, but there really isn't. The way you are here, exists inside you, it's YOU that keeps that hidden from the people you interact with. You are a unique person, and you do have something to offer, really. You wouldn't scare me off in real life. I've met WAYYYY scarier. :)

Whoops, haha, sorry. I'm fine. I had a reply typed up and my iphone wouldn't let me post it, and I just didn't have the energy to retype it. Since then I've been alternately trying to keep myself busy or am just too mopey to do much of anything. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was going to do something, because I truthfully am nowhere near that point. I mean, at this point, I'd be perfectly fine with being struck by a lighting bolt or some other freak disaster that I have concsious hand in, but the second I hear thunder I'm heading inside. I'm not actively seeking to harm myself or anything. I'm 100% safe, I'm just in a deeper rut that usual at the moment. So please, perish the thought. (Pun intended, because I'm a sick, sick b******. :p)

That initial post was worded that way because it's also title of a very ironic song. So while it was a sentiment that I kind of agreed with (emphasis on want to die, rather than actively planning to do so) I was also kind of making fun of myself with it. Kind of in the spirit of the second paragraph in the quote box below.

Here's what I meant to post (what I remember), just cause I feel like I need to keep the discussion going for some reason:

I've tried the professional help thing and it only made things worse. Granted, I was getting the wrong kind of professional help, because my parents freaked and didn't really understand what was going on at the time. But at the same time, I lack the time, money, energy or will to go through that again.

And believe me, Im very conscious that people have it worse. That kind of gets me down as well, the fact that I truly do have nothing to worry about and am just being a spoiled, spoiled b****. I'm insanely fortunate, probably one of the luckiest people I know. And I have no right to be this depressed loser at all. In other countries kids are dying of thirst, but here on my side I'm whining because I'm ewoking up in a great film school that those kids can never dream of attending. I have no right.

And I'd argue that there's a huge difference between forum life and real world life. On a forum, everything you say is broadcast to everyone else, even if you're having a one-on-one conversation with someone. Every time you post you're putting yourself out there. And I may be one of the guys who's a bit more active and out there by trying to string along dumbass non-sequiters in the desperate hopes that I can maybe elicit the odd smirk from one of you every once in awhile. But in real life I'm a lurker. I try to break out of my shell just a little bit and immediately have to withdraw even more out of shame. I loathe myself because I can't be "That Guy" even though that's what I want more than literally anything in the world. My forum life/real life in particular are exact polar opposites of each other. The way I'm on here doesn't exist inside me, it's what I desperately desperately wish existed inside me.

<JM's town> just got slammed with crazy amounts of rain. Official tally for Round 1 of storms was 5-7 inches of rain. Half the city is flooded. I was wading through knee-deep water on my way to work this morning. The library has about 4 ft of water in the basement. That happens to be where books are stored while they are waiting to either be shipped to other branches, or enter circulation. The director estimates tens of thousands of books have been ruined as well as the computer network system that controls every branch of the library. So, no computer access whatsoever for the next 2-3 days, possibly more. So I've got a few unexpected days off--really the only silver lining in this storm cloud since my copy of Omen was most likely among the ruined books. Me not happy.

And thanks to the water getting dangerously involved with the electrical systems, I spent most of my grand hour and a half at work on the first floor not touching anyting and waiting for the rain to let up enough so we could kick the patrons out and let the electric company cut the power. It has not been a fun day as several of my coworkers have lost vehicles to the flooding, and we're expecting another round of severe storms this afternoon.

I still have to disagree with you buddy. The mere fact that you are able to be the way you are here, means to me that that IS inside you. If it wasn't, well, you wouldn't be the funny, intelligent self-deprecating person you are here. I think the biggest thing is actually realizing, for yourself, that you ARE able to break out of that shell, and be the person you want. It happens differently to everyone. Anyone that knew me in high school and sees me now, doesn't see the person I used to be. We all change over time, and sometimes it's really hard to see that we can actually do something about who we want to be.

I think the defining moment for me was, when I was in San Diego the first time, back in 98-99 going to school. I remember being out, and hanging with some friends at the beach, and just looking at all the fine ass women out there. I kept thinking about how great it would be to get one of them, and then it kinda settled on me: just talk to em ya big pussy. If they shoot you down, it's not like you're ever gonna see em again (hopefully, lol). So I did....attempt to talk to one. I had no freakin clue what I was doing, lol. And it kinda ended up like I had thought it would, but the thing was, I had this new found courage so to speak. I realized that if someone didn't like me for who I am, ewok EM. From that time on, it was a lot easier to interact with people that I didn't really know. It made it easier to get to know people too. That was always inside me. And granted, it was well before I ever started posting on any board, but the premise remains the same. What you see here, is what you get in the "real world". And I honestly think that it would be the same with you my man. If you let it.

It is a real mess. Within the past year we've been hit with a windstorm, an icestorm, and now torrential downpours and flooding. What the crap did we do to piss off Mother Nature?

You know what I'm sick of???? I'm sick of the people that don't support Obama sending me trash emails. ESPECIALLY when they're my friends!!! LOOK. I GET that you don't like him and that you DID NOT vote for him!!! That is your right as an American citizen, but knock it the ewok off with the hate emails! All you're doing is pissing me off! I'm not sending you McCain/Palin hate mail am I????? AM I?!?!?!?! I support my president. I voted for Obama. I am PROUD that I voted for Obama. Do I agree with every little thing he's doing? Of course I don't, but who's perfect?! For real?! JUST KNOCK IT OFF.
