Yeah it goes like this. When we get new instruments at work, some people from work get to go to school. School is usually someplace cool like New York, LA, Miami, Indy. The last person went to New York. So we're getting these new analyzers in a department that I've been busting my ass for. I've been writing procedures and stuff like that. I also recently went on an inspection team for another lab. None of that is technically part of my job description.

So everyone, including myself, thought that I'd be the one going to school this time around for this analyzer, because I'd written half the procedures for the department, I'm one of the senior people, people below me are leaving the company within a year, are stupid, or just went to school, or are too new. So one of my coworkers and I were asking our coordinator who got to go to Miami for a week to go to school. She says to me, "Well, the manager just said that you just went on CAP (the inspection)."

So I don't get to go to Miami.

The person that's planning on leaving when he fulfills his 1 year commitment to get his $2500 bonus is.

It's ewoking unfair.

sorry Prin. :(

i cannot stand the supervisor at my clinic site. i usually try to avoid her, but today she decided to come out of her hidey hole and actually do work in the department. i don't know if it's because i'm young or if it's because i'm a student, but she always talks to me like i'm stupid. like today for instance. we have an Excel spreadsheet for our Gastric Emptying studies that calculates the percentage of the food that is still in the stomach over time. somebody (not me, probably the other student that's there with me) messed it up so the saved version had someone's information on it instead of being blank, and the second half was gone (we delete any values we don't need in processing). so, anyway, i figure no big deal. a little more work for me, but i know how to fix it. i grabbed a blank sheet that had the calculations i needed so i could enter them into the appropriate columns in Excel. i was just starting when she came in behind me and the following conversation took place:

"What are you doing?"

"Fixing the gastric sheet."

"It's not going to work if you just put the numbers in. You have to do it a certain way."

"I know. That's why I have the calculation sheet." *enter me attempting to explain the process of fixing it*

"It's not going to work. I have the blank."

"I know how to use Excel."

"I have the blank."

so at that point i left the room before i snapped. it took her 30 minutes to do what i could have done in 10 because her blank didn't show up on the computer where it was supposed to. whereas i could have just fixed it and saved a blank copy. i could also save her $85 and fix it on the other computer in the hotlab, because that computer is set up to not allow outside disks/USB drives to upload and the IT department has to do it.

and then last week, the other student and i were standing in the exam room with a tech who was getting ready to explain some processing to us, and she walks past in the hall and goes "Make sure ya'll watch him do this." NO DUH!!! what did she think we were doing? taking a smoke break?! i swear, every time i try to take an initiative when she's around, it's wrong. no matter what i do, it's wrong. she also went off on the other student when he was changing linens. apparently we're "here to learn how to work the cameras, not change sheets and pillowcases." but i was under the impression that cleaning up the work area for the next patient was part of the job. ugh. i'm so glad i've only got 3 more days there.

omg, that jack ass of a maintenance guy is gonna get an earful the next time i see him! i'm glad that he finally (after 6 hours of snow in the daylight) shoveled the entry way, but he put it all in my parking spot while i was at work. um, you could tell that i had left for work and would be coming back, but when i got back tonight, there was so much snow that 1. i couldn't get into my spot and 2. when i finally was able to pull in, i was crooked because i couldn't get over the foot and a half of snow that was where my right wheels go.

the worse thing is, this isn't the first time we've had issues with him. it was his idea to unplug the dryer, and he still hasn't plugged it back in after four months. the "secure entry" door hasn't been working for five months, and he's known about it but not done anything...and they've been doing siding work on this stupid building and he didn't tell anyone. and i'm sorry, but my roommate works a night job, and was pretty pissed that he was woken up by all the pounding. and it was only around our apartment, too, which pissed everyone in this apartment off.

so...i dunno...i know that king is waiting for just one more ewok up before he pulls out a lawsuit...i hope he just does it soon...

Got to have a bit of a rant, because I spent Christmas in hospital (dodged the norovirus, or whatever it's called, though), and the most annoying part was being determinedly perky the whole time, because people were worrying enough as it was. Don't go to hospital at Christmas, not with weekends either side: my stay went weekend, christmas, weekend, new year's... And guess when doctors don't work. I'm out more because they were as sick of me as I was of them than because I was well. I had something rare (spontaneous intercranial hypotension, no less) which means the doctors don't know what to expect, and I don't know what to expect, and when stuff happens that freaks me out none of the three neurologists were around to give a definite opinion, so I had to trust the on call doctor's "well, it definitely wasn't a stroke, and it's over now, so it's probably unrelated". At some point the most important consultant's PA will call me to arrange a follow up interview, though if I'm not proerly better by then I don't know how I'm supposed to get there.

Add to that te fact I can't get out of the house to pay my council tax, Northern Rock still have my savings, and I'm starting a new job in three weeks time for less hours and less money (but also less boredom). Oh, and I have to persuade my housemates to move, because I'm not paying more rent to live in a smaller room that's equally moudly as the one I spent the last two years in as a student. I'm sick of moudly clothes!

Honestly, though, I'm still in reasonable good humour. Just interspersed with periods of intense worry. But hey, at least I'm not in hospital any more: I can chose what I eat and when, what time I get up and go to bed, and I'm not sharing a room with four other people.

So we were told we had to fill out these equal opporunity/ command climate surveys. First off, these things are optional, you don't have to do them. Second, they're not due until February. The end of February. Well, I'm going on leave tomorrow, so I was getting hassled about getting it done. Even after I pointed out the fact that I don't even have to do it if I don't want to. (though it's in my best interest. can't bith about something that should be changed if you don't bring it up) So I did it, and I wanted to share the righteous rant that I put in the comments section of the survey. It's too bad they'll never know who wrote it though....

I have noticed there is a trend these days in the Navy where people are more concerned with themselves and their careers than they are with their people and those responsible for doing the "grunt work". I am sick of the the Navy's brass telling everyone to study hard, advance and get that bigger pay-check, all the while forsaking their subordinates. The only reason I decided to stay in the Navy is so that I could some day be in a leadership position and make things better for the people under me. When I was a junior person in the Navy, I loathed the way my shipmates and I were treated by my first class and my chief. I vowed that if I stayed in, I will NOT be that person. I am sick of the fact that there are all these people out there that just want the evals and recognition so they can put on khaki's and reach some sort of "milestone" in their career. Wearing that uniform means nothing if you only care about yourself. I don't care about making rank, I care about completing the job that the Navy has given me, doing it better than any one else, and taking care of the people that help me get this job done. That is ALL a person should have to do to be successful. This is apparently not what some in the Navy want. They think it better to have people that will sell their shipmate up the river to get ahead. I will never stoop to this level and if that means I never make Chief, then I will make my quiet stand on my principles and retire as an E-6. I will still have served my country and my Navy just as good, if not better than the next person. The Navy as a whole needs to re-evaluate the system in place for advancement. Leadership cannot be taught, you either have it or you don't. Those without should not be the ones leading people into battle.

...On that note... Not necessarily a rant, but an "I'm not sure this is such good news."

Hubby tests for E-6 here soon, apparently. Which may mean we stay in the military for good. I don't know whether to be thrilled or not....

Okay, I got a cellphone (regular cellphone, not prepaid) from Verizon. And ever since I've gotten it, I've been getting tons of phone calls from collection agencies and the previous number holders' contacts.

One guy called from a number that could not be displayed, asking for Ruthina Dominguez. I told him he had the wrong number. He said "Well, she called us from this number." I said, "No she didn't," and hung up. He called back and left a hateful message on my voicemail. A couple of days later, I got another call from an unavailable number. It was a different guy who asked for MY name (my name is on my voicemail message) and then asked if I knew Ruthina.

I've gotten several calls from an Eastern Iowa number in Spanish. I've gotten calls in what sounded like an East Asian language like Chinese or Vietnamese.

I've gotten calls from the Phoenix and Chicago areas (I looked up the area codes) asking for "Noel."

I've asked Verizon about call blocking. They don't have that feature.

Verizon sucks. they slapped Rob with a $300 termination fee 3 years after he cancelled the phone.

ya....robert's already getting ready for his e-5 (he's still an e-3), and we're in that same boat of...do we want it or not?

but anyway...you should ask for a completely new number, they should allow you to do that.

my beef?

i pulled a straight double yesterday. what is a straight double you may ask? the kind where you work straight through the end of your shift until the next person gets there two hours after you were supposed to be off. i mean, we did almost go on a wait for the dining room at lunch and i was the only hostess on, but as soon as everyone left after lunch we were dead. so i ended up just standing around, doing nothing, literally only getting to sit for 30 minutes while i finished the hamburger i started before brittney got on. i think that i will never work a valentines day double again. and as far as that goes, i may just never work another valentines day. i decided to help in to go before sabastian (the worst host we have) got there. and i think it may have been a good idea. anielle wanted a strong door last night, but what we really needed was to go. guess how many orders we had within an hour period. one hundred fifty. people were standing around for at least an hour waiting for their food because we couldn't find order slips and we didn't have room for food and the kitchen couldn't keep up. the door was on an hour wait because the dining room wasn't getting their food either.

Why the hell would anyone want to go out to eat on Valentine's Day, anyway? All the crowds and the noise and the just general.... population.

If everyone thought like that, we could take advantage of the lack of crowds.

This year, we stayed home and I made a tasty pork tenderloin in the crock pot with BBQ sauce and tasties and potatoes and veggies and cupcakes. :p
