Lab rant:

Saturday morning, one of my patient's spikes a temperature of 38.4 C. So I call the resident, blah blah, get a verbal order for labs to check the blood for infection, look at the white cell count (elevated WBCs indicates infection) and all that. Good, fine.

So I put the labs in the computer and all that, and out of courtesy to the phlebotomists, I call down to the lab and inform them I've just put labs in, since it was 0630 and they were already doing their morning lab draws.

So the lady tells me I have to call the phlebolotmist directly and gives me the number, hangs up.

Erg. Okay, whatever. I'm trying to be nice. It's your job to inform the guy he needs to swing by the unit. Anyways, I call the number... it rings. 20 times. No answer.

I call lab back. I tell them. She exasperatedly informs me that she will try calling, but that I should call back too. Fine.

Then she calls back 5 mintues later and informs me that she got an answer right away. "Did you actually call the number?" she asks me. Of course I called. Why the kriff would I lie and take the time to call her back and tell her there was no answer if I hadn't called?

So then the phlebotomist comes up and I explain to him that I really had tried to call, so he won't think I'm a dingbat. Turns out, the crazy lady from lab gave me the wrong number, but was too.....something to admit it, so instead she just tried to make me feel stupid.

Ok, I think the kriffing health center screwed up. First they give me medicine for gastritis when it turns out to be lactose intolerance (yay! and I love dairy too) and then I got my TB test and when they read it, I only had a bruise and now I've got this weird raised area where the nurse injected the PPD. Damn nurses (J/K TSL, don't hurt me!)

And isn't the tester for TB supposed to give you a weird raised area?

PPD is the TB test. We medically people get to have them yearly. Yay.

And yes, but it goes away after a short time if you aren't positive....unless you have an allergic reaction to it or something.
