And my current streak of luck continues... I completely forgot that I had a French test today, I stapled my palm, I failed an HTML quiz, and I have a blister on my foot. Oh, and don't you just LOVE it when you just turn in a huge assignment when you realise that you forgot to edit the last page?

Oh, and Janson, this is nothing personal, I'm just in a really bad mood. But I was under the impression that the point of this thread was to give us a place to rant and vent and recieve some sympathy, not to be pointlaughed at. Although I'm all for free expression online, it sorta hurts to be laughed at because my life is so sucky. If you don't have something nice to say about my life, at the very least, keep it out of this thread, because I'd like to be able to get stuff off my chest without being mocked.

Okay...yesterday was crazy. My dad found an annoying spyware on our comp...you know, the one that changes your IE homepage. Well this one was that except it was a particularly eval one. We attempted, all day, to destroy it. We tried Spybot: Search & Destroy. We tried Ad-aware. We tried HijackThis. We looked at all of the online help guides. But it still lived! Whenever we thought we had finally exorcised the little demon, it would rear it's ugly head as soon as we finished celebrating! Anyway...we gave up and I installed Firefox. Much better. I'm going to avoid IE now, lol.

Oh, it is possible to get rid of it... Hmm, but I don't remember how. lol

I have that same thing. I just run Ad-watch in the background, to keep whatever program it is that keeps changing it from entering the new data in the registry. It changes the homepage every time you open or close IE. So I just use MyIE2 now. It's almost exactly like IE, but it's got lots more 1337 features. w00t-ness.

Whoever made this one hid it really really well.

Yes they did... I've searched the registry pretty well and haven't found anything yet. I'll tell you what I did find though. Two files in the C:\WINDOWS folder; oqlze.dat and oqlze.dll. I've tried deleting them, but the program or whatever it is keeps replacing them, just like it keeps trying to change the registry value for the IE homepage. It's starting to piss me off. Oh, and I found the program in "Add/Remove Programs". It's called Home Search Assitant. When I tried to uninstal it, it took me to a page with a couple lesbians at the top of the page and some old dude, probably about 90, with huge glasses, holding out a bunch of money. And all the text on the page is gibberish, and there's a form at the bottom asking for a username and password, email, etc.. Here's the URL that the program keeps trying to set as the homepage...

res://oqlze.dll/index.html#96676

The number on the end is different every time...

Sound like the same thing you guys have/are getting?

UPDATE: I went back one more time, and this time I think I've found it. I'm going to try something... If it works, I'll post and tell you how to remove it (if you've got what I have). If not, well... I'll cry.

UPDATE: For ewokS sakes. It didn't work. I deleted the registry entries, and it's still happening. I don't get it... I think I'm on to something though, so I'll keep at it. *sigh* I wish I could get my hands on the person who made that program. Seriously. What the hell is wrong with them. It's an intrusion of privacy, is what it is. Not only that, but it's tampering with private property with out consent. Grrrr.

UPDATE: I'm at a loss. I've completely scoured the registry, deleted all references to "oqlze.dat" and "oqlze.dll", deleted the two files themselves, and it STILL keeps happening. The files keep replicating themselves. A good sign I guess is that the registry entries didn't come back, except for the IE ones, but that's how it changes the homepage anyway... I'm going to keep looking. The program has to have it's own registry entry, and if I find it, maybe I'll find the program itself. Weeee...

Tried starting Windows up in Safe Mode and messing with it?

Or you could just unisntall IE and reinstal it from the Windows disk.

What the hell is wrong with customer service nowadays? Seriously. I was at Target with my mom today and I had on a shirt that I had gotten for my birthday that says Gemini across it. It's a cute shirt and I like it. As we check out the cashier sees my shirt and proceeds to tell me that I have issues because I'm a gemini. And then goes on and talks about her boyfriend problems. Um HELLO!!! I don't give a rat's ass. Whatever happened to "Hi how are you today? Did you find everything that you needed?"

I have the EXACT same problem...except that the part with "oqlze.dll" usally changes every time it returns from death.

And the number on the end is the same for me too.

Yeah, I've got a different .dll file now.

Stupid thing. I spent a whole day researching it, but couldn't get rid of it. Oh well, as long as I don't use IE I'm fine. I think... :nerves:

I've been hit with massive spyware through no apparent means. Lycos Sidesearch anyone? That downloaded itself without any warning.

I blame my sister. And MSN. And all the cutesy stuff she downloads because it's "OMG LIKE SO COOL" from her friends.

Still...adaware takes care of most of it. Some stuff is stubborn too. You can delete it, and wipe the remains of it from the registry, but after a reboot, it shows itself again.
