Princess 35 Posted August 8, 2011 So it looks like not having a life may finally pay off. I think that the job is mine if I am willing (and I am) to work every Saturday night
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 8, 2011 Well, the hospital I've been working at is on a hiring freeze. So they're not filling that open position at the moment. Apparently they'd rather pay someone like me more per hour than hire a permanent replacement.
Princess 35 Posted August 8, 2011 Because that way they don't have to pay you benefits
Uncle Du 22 Posted August 9, 2011 Any word on the job Prinny??
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 Kind of. The manager called me this afternoon asking about my school schedule and asking if I'd be willing to work every Saturday, midnight shift. So they wouldn't call and ask that if they weren't serious about hiring me. I'm calling her back in the morning and informing her that I have no life on Saturday nights anyways, so it wouldn't be a problem
Pandora 77 Posted August 9, 2011 Saturday nights should go by quickly. Right? Don't people do stupid things on saturday nights?
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 Yes, they suddenly have emergencies with problems that have been there for months but they go to the ER on Saturday nights
Pandora 77 Posted August 9, 2011 Isn't that what you're supposed to do? :p
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 No, you're supposed to see your primary care physician while it's still an easily treatable condition instead of an acute condition that requires hospitalization :p
Pandora 77 Posted August 9, 2011 But .... but... hospitals have better drugs! :p

Pandora 77 Posted August 9, 2011 You know what, I once saw a chick have to have an IV (I think it was like a nothing dose of some narcotic I can't spell) in her HEAD because she'd collapsed all her veins.
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 *shudder* I've seen a few nasty things in the ER.

Uncle Du 22 Posted August 9, 2011 Well Prin-tacular, you're not the only one that has no life on a Saturday night.
Tsl 7 Posted August 9, 2011 You know what, I once saw a chick have to have an IV (I think it was like a nothing dose of some narcotic I can't spell) in her HEAD because she'd collapsed all her veins. Why do scalp ivs freak people out so much? Parents absolutely wig if you put one in their baby... :???:
Pandora 77 Posted August 9, 2011 Because its the HEAD!!!!
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 But with babies, that's often the only spot with good veins. I am not looking forward to having to learn to draw blood on kids
Pandora 77 Posted August 9, 2011 Well I mean with a baby I can understand. That actually makes sense to me. But if you're jabbing yourself so much that the only way you can get your fix is your HEAD?!?! Time to check yourself into someplace.
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 One of the times that I was in the hospital, I was in pretty rough shape and the phlebotomist was someone that I considered a friend and she had to poke me 4 times, finally getting enough blood out of the veins in the side of my foot
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 9, 2011 Because that way they don't have to pay you benefits Be that as it may, my hourly rate is higher. Someone upstairs can't add. *shudder* I've seen a few nasty things in the ER. ER's are fun. I am not looking forward to having to learn to draw blood on kids Be prepared to require at least 4 adults to hold them down. One of the times that I was in the hospital, I was in pretty rough shape and the phlebotomist was someone that I considered a friend and she had to poke me 4 times, finally getting enough blood out of the veins in the side of my foot Gotcha beat there. I did a scan on a lady once and it took 8 of us (all of whom tried at least twice) over an hour to get an IV. Next time, she had a port.
Princess 35 Posted August 9, 2011 JM, your hourly rate may be higher, but that higher hourly rate costs them less than a couple hundred dollars a pay period in benefits
