Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted November 27, 2006 heheh. i get so annoyed with this push to "eat healthier." yes, we need to consume less "junk food," but there is nothing wrong with eating "junk food" so long as you exercise and take multivitamins to offset it. not to mention those who have a genetic predispositon to obesity, who no matter how well they eat and how much they exercise will never lose the weight. it also bothers me that the government is doing what parents should be doing. it is not the government's responsiblilty to make sure your kids are healthy; it's your job as a parent. i think much of the world's "obesity problem" would be taken care of if parents would make their kids go outside and play. so what if they get a little rough? they do need adult supervison to make sure nothing serious happens, but a scraped knee is not going to kill them (this brings me to a rant about not letting kids play tag and dodgeball at recess anymore, but that's a rant for another time. ). stick a Band-Aid on it, and go on. when i was a kid, my knees and elbows were always banged up from falling off my bike. *jumps off soap box*

At least there's a net up incase you push your kid off the rope. Either way, is the food from fast food retail outlets good for you even if you exercise? Probably not. I'm sure Morgan Spurlock could testify.
Chickenman 9 Posted November 27, 2006 Because the parents don't do anything about raising their kids to eat healthy, it becomes the government's problem? I think not. A parent has a duty to his/her kids. They can't just shirk that so that the government can fix everything. I'm a fan of big government, but this is stupid. The government has more important things to worry about than how unhealthy our junk food is. Especially when we have such a huge variety of food to choose from. If people are choosing unhealthy food, then it's their own damn fault. The government doesn't need to be involved in this.

Neil1 0 Posted November 27, 2006 (edited) Because the parents don't do anything about raising their kids to eat healthy, it becomes the government's problem? I think not. A parent has a duty to his/her kids. They can't just shirk that so that the government can fix everything. And if the parents don't then why should the child suffer? Surely education in school, tax on fast food etc isn't too big a problem - it sounds like a great idea. It's really not fair on the child if the parent could potentially be killing them.
