Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 9, 2006 lol, same here. course, you could take the bus or other public transportation, but they would need gas, too. either way, somebody needs it.
Andy 60 Posted August 9, 2006 Well, how far away do you work from your house? Takes me 10 mins to drive to work, I could walk there in an hour and a half if I had to. Or 30 mins if i had a bike I could ride there. lol
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 9, 2006 it takes me a good 20-30 minutes to drive to work/school.
Ayingel 24 Posted August 10, 2006 it's a fifteen minute roundtrip for my one job, thirty for the other...and school is a good hour and a half away
Tsl 7 Posted August 10, 2006 (edited) it would take prolly two or three hours to walk, one way, which when you work 13 to 14 hour shifts....well yeah. Not to mention I'd have to hike along the freeway and then through some shady neighborhoods after dark...the kinda neighborhoods I wouldn't walk through during the daylight, lol. And there is no public transportation where I live. Edited August 10, 2006 by The Tsl
Princess 35 Posted August 10, 2006 Same here. I work in a different city than I live in. That city is horrid about violence, the area a few blocks away from the hospital is a war zone. I've passed by shooting crime scenes before on my way home from work. Plus it's about 20 miles from my house :p
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 10, 2006 my neighborhood is an oasis of sanity in between ghettos. i'll walk around Mike's neighborhood at night, but not mine, lol.
Neil1 0 Posted August 10, 2006 You should all try to get jobs closer to home. Studies show those who shop, live and work in a small area are happier than those who go long distances. :p
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 10, 2006 bah. being at home irritates me. :p
Alexander 0 Posted August 10, 2006 10-15min walk to work! I rule! :p
Princess 35 Posted August 11, 2006 But they call the hospital that's close to my home Bay Dead
Tsl 7 Posted August 11, 2006 There are no hospitals in the city I live in. All the good ones are located amidst ghettos. It's some kind of rule, I guess, that hospitals have to be in the worst areas. Not as far to have to haul the gun shot victims, I guess.
Princess 35 Posted August 11, 2006 I think that you've hit that nail on the head TSL. Heck, some of ours drive themselves in
Alexander 0 Posted August 11, 2006 Shush. I've got legs of steel from walking ~2 miles a day all summer.

Ender 8 Posted August 11, 2006 Yeah, same here. In Cincinnati, almost all the hospitals (I think seven in all) are located on one hill near the University of Cincinnati. It's called Pill Hill, and it's in one of the worst parts of downtown. The Ronald McDonald House has two armed guards that have to escort you to and from the House to the hospitals. It's ridiculous. Andy 60 Posted August 12, 2006 Wtf? lol, i'm never going to go live over there! :p

Which is exactly why I am never going to work at Cincy Childrens, which is just accross the street from the RMH, lol. My hospital isn't in a good area, but so far I haven't had to dodge any bullets, unlike a friend of mine who worked at Good Samaritan (in Dayton) for awhile. Besides, all the people there are real assholes. Most of them are former St. Jude's employees, and they walk around with their noses higher in the air than anyone I've ever seen. Well, okay, I've seen a few Parisians whose noses were higher, but you get the point. W00t for going out to the University of Iowa every year! lol

Our families that have to go down there for something usually can't wait to come back to us, lol. And they usually have a better appreciation for us too.
