Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted July 20, 2006 there are other ways to get stem cells, right? and as far as i know there has never been a documented case of embryonic stem cells being used in this manner. personally, i believe very much in the sanctity of human life, especially for those who have not had a chance to live yet. certainly science can find another way to find the cures for these ailments without destroying human embryos. and just for argument's sake, let's pretend for a moment that the stem cells of animals could be used this way. would people be fighting for it? certainly PETA would object, but PETA objects to everything. it bugs me that we as a society care more about starving kittens than abused and neglected children. but that's another issue altogether. Princess 35 Posted July 21, 2006 Uh JM, most of these stem cells for research would be coming from embryos that are just going to be destroyed because they're leftovers from IVF
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted July 21, 2006 i know, and i have my issues with that as well. it's a wonderful thing to help those who are unable to conceive on their own. but why create more than you need? i have a very good friend who had her kids with the help of IVF, and as far as i know, she and her husband used all of the embryos. Princess 35 Posted July 21, 2006 But not all the embryos implant the first time, so they'll create them, try and if it fails, try again. And on a different subject, something to sicken everyone... Well, it was. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wear/5208460.stm Apparently it has travelled the world, and was in England celebrating it's 10th year. Ayingel 24 Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) that actually sounds a bit like fun i only hope that they can keep weapons out of there. oh, and all those driving stateside, gas prices are going to skyrocket for a while. a pipeline exploded in alaska. on my way home from rochester it was ranging from 3.15, to the last remaining 2.99 at home. i only hope the koch station will stay pretty low... Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 8, 2006 i was so mad. there was one gas station that had gas for $2.83, but i was on my way to work and didn't have time to stop. by the time i got out, gas had jumped to $3.15. now that's price gouging.
Tsl 7 Posted August 8, 2006 now now. let's leave the poor oil companies alone. I mean they need their record breaking profits of billions and billions more than the world needs decently priced gas to function.
Andy 60 Posted August 8, 2006 Well, to be fair petrol or gas or whatever you like to call it is a luxury, not a neccessity (sp?).
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted August 8, 2006 in this day and age, it's a necessity. i don't think you want to travel to LA for Celebration IV by boat and horse-drawn buggy, now do you? now, if they would get on the ball and make more cars that are either hybrids or run on ethanol, then i'd agree that gas isn't really necessary. but of course, that won't happen anytime soon because the oil companies like their record billion dollar profits and are going to do what they can to keep them. Ayingel 24 Posted August 9, 2006 i really want an E85 car...but really...the us government has enough gas in reserve somewhere for gas to cost us $0.85 for the next 50 years...or something like that...

Tsl 7 Posted August 9, 2006 without gas to operate my car, I can't get to work. I'd call that a bit of a neccesity. if going to work is a luxury, I'll be glad to give it up :p
