Chickenman 9 Posted May 31, 2006 Can someone please tell me why the ewok is so much news coverage being directed at Katie Couric's leaving the Today Show? Shouldn't the news be covering something, oh, I don't, important? An anchor is leaving. Big ewoking deal! I don't care who the smiling drone is that's giving me my news. What I care about is the actual substance of the news. The President is wiretapping Americans without getting permission from the Judicial Branch. That's against the ewoking law! Why can't they go to the Judicial Branch? If they have enough reason to wiretap, I'm sure the Judicial Branch would approve. So what are they hiding? But I see almost no news coverage on this! The Presiden lied us into a war. Where is the news coverage? But a ewoking anchorwoman is leaving her show. *Gasp!*

GI_Admiral 2 Posted May 31, 2006 hahaha you do what gets you the most viewers...whether thats negative images of the war, depressing murder/rape stories, or lame stories to avoid contreversy that will potentially lose viewers.... That's capitalism and therefore life. :p
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted June 1, 2006 i agree with Chicken. it's rediculous to have all this hoopla over her leaving a news show when they could be focusing on child predators or how to cut down on crime or something important like that.
Neil1 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Or conflicts outside of the US... say... In Darfur.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted June 1, 2006 pfft. here in America, we don't care about other countries. heck, we don't even care about our own! :p
Tsl 7 Posted June 2, 2006 (edited) The lack of concern for Darfur in America sickens me. We're busy "freeing" people who didn't really want to be freed and half-heartedly chasing some old guy around the mountains of Afghanistan when others actually need help from a far more serious situation. Chickenman 9 Posted June 2, 2006 Really? It's a genocide taking place in Sudan. It's a good thing the President is trying to liberate people in Iraq, cause they've had it much worse than the people getting killed by the thousands in Darfur.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted June 2, 2006 personally i think we should take care of the problems in America before we start trying to fix everyone else's.
Neil1 0 Posted June 2, 2006 This is the rape and murdering of a collective people defined by their darker skin colour. People who haven't necessarily done anything wrong - it's tribal warfare, so there's no saying that blacks haven't comitted crimes in the past. "The government and its Janjaweed allies have killed thousands of Fur, Masalit, and Zaghawa?often in cold blood?raped women, and destroyed villages, food stocks and other supplies essential to the civilian population. They have driven more than one million civilians, mostly farmers, into camps and settlements in Darfur where they live on the very edge of survival, hostage to Janjaweed abuses. More than one million others have fled to neighboring Chad but the vast majority of war victims remain trapped in Darfur..." "Human Rights Watch spent twenty-five days in and on the edges of West Darfur, documenting abuses in rural areas that were previously well-populated with Masalit and Fur farmers. Since August 2003, wide swathes of their homelands, among the most fertile in the region, have been burned and depopulated. With rare exceptions, the countryside is now emptied of its original Masalit and Fur inhabitants. Everything that can sustain and succor life?livestock, food stores, wells and pumps, blankets and clothing?has been looted or destroyed. Villages have been torched not randomly, but systematically?often not once, but twice." "The uncontrolled presence of Janjaweed in the burned countryside, and in burned and abandoned villages, has driven civilians into camps and settlements outside the larger towns, where the Janjaweed kill, rape, and pillage?even stealing emergency relief items?with impunity." "Despite international calls for investigations into allegations of gross human rights abuses, the government has responded by denying any abuses while attempting to manipulate and stem information leaks... The United States Agency for International Development has warned that unless the Sudanese government breaks with past practice and grants full and immediate humanitarian access, at least 100,000 war-affected civilians could die in Darfur from lack of food and from disease within the next twelve months." Wikipedia, Human Rights Watch. personally i think we should take care of the problems in America before we start trying to fix everyone else's. But the baddies are arabs! :D

Chickenman 9 Posted June 2, 2006 personally i think we should take care of the problems in America before we start trying to fix everyone else's. Yes, let's let a genocide continue. As long as they arn't Americans that are getting killed.
Alexander 0 Posted June 3, 2006 personally i think we should take care of the problems in America before we start trying to fix everyone else's. America's problems are next to nothing compared what some of the third-world countries are experiencing.
GI_Admiral 2 Posted June 5, 2006 personally i think we should take care of the problems in America before we start trying to fix everyone else's. [insert some generic statement on how the World has more problems than America] To be honest, it won't work. People are selfish. "What's in it for me?" "Why should I help someone getting raped in the alley if it puts me in danger?" "Why should we risk our lives to help save the lives of others, we get no benefit out of it." "I have to save up for a BMW, I can't afford to give to charity..." It's human nature. JM's response is only natural as a human. Though as a note, USA is the "last superpower", we therefore should use our "power" aka military and technology to help others who are not as fortunate. Even business people should be jumping at the chance to help 3rd world countries, as it will bring in more of a market (though I guess it gest counter acted by no more slave labor...). Even if you want to bring in religion, many religions believe that if you have a gift, you should use it to benefit people. Well America has the gift of being a rich and "powerful" nation, and we should help others, not ourselves. [/rant]
Tsl 7 Posted June 5, 2006 Ah the isolationists! Such a funny people. Have you any idea what would happen to this country if we became a nation of isolationists? Look into the history of Japan, during the Tokogawa Shogonate's rule. Since I know you're too lazy for that, essentially, America would become a nonentity in the world, lose all it's power and fall behind in all things. And if you think that's a good thing.... Well, I hope you like occupation and subjugation! lol
