TheUnknown 39 Posted May 12, 2006 Okay, my little sister had to go to the hospital early this morning. Our power had gone off, so we had to use candles for a few hours. When the power came back on, she went to blow the candles out. One was on the TV over her head. When she tried to put it back, the wax spilled on her face. She's okay, more scared than anything. But while we were at the hospital, this happened.: A 3-year-old Bartow County boy died overnight from a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. The incident occurred just before midnight Thursday at a home on Grove Circle, off Cassville Highway just west of Cartersville, said Bartow Coroner Joel Guyton. "The 3-year-old might have possibly got his hands on a handgun and accidentally shot himself." The boy's name has not been released. Chris Wilson, an investigator with the sheriff's department, said late Friday morning that detectives were still trying to determine how and where the boy got the loaded gun. "It's heartbreaking," Wilson said. "Anytime you have small children in the home, any type of firearm needs to be unloaded and kept in a safe place, with the ammunition kept separately, away from the children." Two adults and another small child were inside the home when the shooting occurred, Wilson said. No charges had been filed, he said. We literally just walked in the door when the family got the news. It was rough. I feel so bad for them.
Tsl 7 Posted May 12, 2006 Man, there's about 14 or 15 HIPPA violations right there :o
GI_Admiral 2 Posted May 12, 2006 That is pretty rough...I'd feel horrible if I were the parents...keeping a loaded gun/gun that is easily loadable in the house. My roommate and I had a talk about this (He's hardcore Dixie republican) and he made a point that there's a palm print lock thats available, I think people should really use that. Quick for protection, safe against children =/
Neil1 0 Posted May 12, 2006 How much pressure does it take to pull a trigger? Physical force, I mean.
Tsl 7 Posted May 13, 2006 (edited) depends on the gun a revolver is really easy to pull and doesn't have a safety on it, for example GI: those print reading locks suck. It always takes me at least 4 or 5 attempts to get into the one at work  Edited May 13, 2006 by The Tsl
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted May 13, 2006 well, keeping the gun and the ammo separate is a good, safe idea. but it's not going to do you much good if someone breaks into your house and you've got to go unlock the gun, go to a different place to unlock the ammo, load the gun, and then go confront the burgler. i guess the solution to that would be A) not have a gun; keep a knife instead or B) keep the loaded firearm in a locked drawer or closet and not let the kid get the key. a combination lock would be good too. Princess 35 Posted May 13, 2006 That poor family Reminds me of the three year old Amish boy that shot himself about a year ago while playing with a gun. Kids and guns = dangerous
Andy 60 Posted May 13, 2006 It'd be far safer if they just banned guns. Peope and guns = dangerous.

If you had a brain you wouldn't confront a burglar. Failing that I'd keep the ammo in a draw and the gun high up. They shoudl teach people this stuff. I should write a book. GI_Admiral 2 Posted May 14, 2006 TSL - Meh, was atleast a good idea. They should get it better. Neil - My roommate said that anyone in his house that isn't invited would be shot immedietly -_-;; for the "protection" of his family. Since he would assume that the burglars wanted to kill his family. We tried tellign him most burglars don't go in to kill the family THEN loot...just loot and leave. Tsl 7 Posted May 14, 2006 JM - Uh...knife = bad idea. Think about it. Some dude breaks in, comes after you for whatever reason, you wield a knife at him. One of two things will happen next. A. He'll chicken out and run, which...if he's randomly coming for you in the first place, is rather unlikely. or B. He'll take the knife from you and use it against you. Andy 60 Posted May 14, 2006 here if you shot a burglar who had broken into your house YOU would be in jail yourself. lol
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted May 14, 2006 Neil, i live in the South. we ALL have guns and we do use them. Tsl, same thing could happen with a gun, but more people are scared of guns than knives. maybe we should all keep loaded crossbows, hmm? :p

Tsl, same thing could happen with a gun, but more people are scared of guns than knives. maybe we should all keep loaded crossbows, hmm? Gun = ranged weapon. You unload into them before they get to you to take it away. If you don't kill them by the time they're close enough to take it, you're ewoked anyways. With a knife, they have to be right at you before you can even begin trying to use it.
Neil1 0 Posted May 15, 2006 Just get the guy, any guy, and stick him in front of the camera is, some fear, the philosophy of rolling television news. For BBC News 24, however, the bloke in reception waiting patiently to pontificate on a courtroom verdict turned out to be the wrong Guy. Guy Kewney, a computer expert, was waiting outside a BBC Television Centre studio to discuss the high court ruling on the Beatles' Apple Corps v Apple Computer on Monday morning. As he watched the news in reception, he was amazed to see "Guy Kewney" pop up on screen. Unlike the white, bearded technology columnist for IT Week, this "Guy Kewney" was black, and appeared stumped when asked about the US computer giant and its tussle with the Beatles over the Apple trademark. "Were you surprised by this verdict?" he was asked. "I'm very surprised at the verdict," he gamely replied. "Because I was not expecting that when I came." A BBC insider said the wrong Guy was a minicab driver, waiting to pick up the real Guy. When the producer went to collect the computer expert from a different waiting area, he called out "Guy Kewney" and the driver said "hello". He was then whisked upstairs to meet the BBC's Karen Bowerman, who asked the first question on live TV. There is only one Guy Kewney in Britain on the electoral roll. As the real Mr Kewney explained in his blog, the accidental impostor at first seemed "puzzled that anybody might imagine that the lawsuit had consequences". The BBC said: "Unfortunately we did make a mistake and the wrong guy was briefly interviewed on air before we cut to our reporter." The video of the expert interview can be downloaded and watched at http://img.dailymail.co.uk/video/cabbie.wmv -
