Pandora 77 Posted July 23, 2002 Plenty... My dad was able to get two extra tickets to a Grizzlies game last season (we have only 2 season tickets) so the whole family could go. Dad and my bro sat in our normal seats (front row over the tunnel on home-side. Great seats), and Mom and I took the extra. After finally figuring out where they were, we started climbing to the third story and once there, started climing to our row. We just couldn't seem to climb high enough. We kept going up and up and up and up and up.... We ended up being four rows from the ceiling, actually, and could easily see down inside the scoreboard/monitor. The we remembered that we had to stand for the anthem. Mom is terrified of heights, unbelievably so, but they don't usually bother me. It's falling from great heights that I don't like.... We looked down, way down, and found dad at the other side of the arena, but couldn't get his attention. So, horrified, Mom pulls out her secret weapon: the cell phone, and calls dad on h is (or at least tried to), but he didn't have it on, and Mom left him a shakey messege. She turns to me, her knuckles white on the armrest, "I don't think I can get down. We need to get your father up here to help me. I can't move." I gazed down the nearly verticle drop and I swear the air was thinner. "Shall we try to slide down the stairs?" It was the only idea I could think of. "No," she said shakily, trying her hardest not to look down. "But if your dad won't come up here, I may have to call the fire department to get me down." The poor woman was dead serious. I figured I'd better try my best to get her down. "Want me to go first?" "No, no," she said hastily. "I'm the mom, I should die first." I shook my head. "Lead the way then." She didn't move. "Mom? Are we going down or not?" "Okay, okay." Slowy, she rose, gripping the chairs and the hand rail as if the stairs might disapear. And, with all honestly, misjudge a step and they very well could. She held her coat out in front of her so she couldn't possibly look farther than the step in front of her. She reached the bottom of the section and gripped the hand raill just as tightly, but glad to get off the verticle stairs. Just as slowly and carefully she made her way to the exit and down to the second level. She made it to the floor safely, and sat down on the bottom step, trembling with adrenaline. "Let's never do that again."

Pandora 77 Posted July 23, 2002 Not really, I'm kinda used to her acting like that. Last summer, we were driving on the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway, trying to get to a hotel by nightfall. We stopped at most of the marked viewing areas, the first one, was only about 150 feet or so up, but it was a cliff, really, with no fence. I thought it would be fun to get as close as I could to the edge to get a better look at the valley. Mom got out of the car, held on to the open door and looked out as far as she could. The car was parked a good twenty feet from the edge, which she quickly scrambled back in. When we got to the highest point, which was... 6000 feet I think, theres a sign that gives the altitude. Dad pulls out the camera and persuades Mom to stand by the sing, at least five feet from the edge to take a picture. The picture came out like this: Mom clinging, literally, to the sign, a look of sheer and actual terror on her face. she was glad to get to the hotel, but I've never seen her pour that much vodka in a glass before...
