Only thing I can think of is the commonly held misconception that the North actually cared about the slaves being free or not. Why "brainwash" the future with images of your wrongdoing? To tell what really happenened. To make sure it doesn't happen again. To show that your country has grown and become better so that's no longer an issue.) "We killed indians...now we give them land" Perhaps, like you wanted, maybe we should inform the children about all the atrocities. Each and every rape, murder, and unfair treatment that was done. Oh wait, lets go even further. Asians! Nothing ever bad happened to them....except having them put in internment camps...and shut out of the country by the President...All I'm saying is every book everywhere has omitted something.
