Princess 35 Posted March 9, 2010 I said at the time that Bertuzzi should have been banned from hockey, but for just a minute, let's say that it was anyone else that got hit. When people hit with an intent to injure when they could have stopped the hit, they should get a penalty. Would have loved to see an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to the Hawks for all that diving yesterday.
Uncle Du 22 Posted March 9, 2010 You can't possibly sit there and bitch about a hit that got put on Bertuzzi, he's more often than not been the bad guy in his career, especially when it comes to questionable hits. I'm going to take that one step further, Bertuzzt should never have been alouded to return to the NHL after the incident with that Moore guy from the Avs. That guy hasn't been able to play hockey again, and neither should Bertuzzi. Absolutely. They did it to mcsorly, or however you spell his name. Circumstances like that, definitely should be ousting players that only want to injure. I was watching NHL network today, and they were talking about this hits to the head thing. Even though you THINK you can watch a replay, and count the seconds after someone gets rid of the puck, or THINK the person could have stopped, it's not the case. When you're out there, and your adrenaline is pumping, hits are going to be made that ARE questionable. If a pattern evolves from a players hitting, then yes, it warrants further inspection. But most players out there aren't playing like that. What's one of the first things that young men are taught as hockey players? FINISH YOUR CHECKS. There is NOTHING wrong with that, even if the puck has been gone for a couple of seconds. We, the viewers, and the folks in Toronto have the gift of hindsight and instant replay. The guys on the ice are living in the moment. You can't sit in an office (or on a couch) and determine whether or not there was malicious intent in a hit (most of the time). Princess 35 Posted March 9, 2010 I watched my brother go through the ranks of hockey, including learning to hit. Did you know that some youth leagues put stop signs on the backs of the jerseys to remind the players if you can see the numbers to not hit the person. I'm all for good clean checks, they're an integral part of the game.
