  1. So it looks like the new Disney streaming service (creatively named Disney+) will be adding a second live-action Star Wars show to its lineup. Joining the in-production The Mandalorian will be a series focusing on Rogue One's Cassian Andor. (So obviously this is a prequel). https://www.starwars.com/news/cassian-andor-live-action-series-announced Having sort of a SW spy thriller sounds like it could have good potential. Plus there is the possibility of more K-2/Alan Tudyk. So I'M IN.
  2. A promotional tie-in for Solo: A Star Wars Story has introduced us to some great new characters we can expect to see, including the fantastically monickered Therm Scissorpunch, a crustacean-like alien with huge lobster claws for hands. But despite being derided as the dumbest name in Star Wars, Therm Scissorpunch is actually quite in-keeping with tradition if you only look a little. First up is everybody's favourite death stick dealer: Elan Sleazebaggano frequented the clubs of Coruscant before he left to rethink his life in Attack of the Clones. Although later retconned to Sel’Sabagno, Sleazebaggano is typical of the tongue-in-cheek naming convention we often see with background characters in Star Wars. Did you ever hear the tragedy of Notluwiski Papanoida? This background character appears in Revenge of the Sith in the corridors of the theatre. The name Notluwiski isn't too bad until you realise who the actor is: it's a cameo by George Lucas. Sith names also seem to be chosen for their thinly veiled meanings. Darth Maul was trained to be a weapon, and was named after one. Sidious has an unavoidable similarity to the word “insidious”, which means to act in a subtle but harmful way; much like how Palpatine chips away at the old Republic. Even Plagueis has connotations of ill intent. In The Clone Wars animated series, Count Dooku takes a secret apprentice with the not too subtle name of Savage Opress. There are no prizes for guessing what his endgame is. It would be easy to see these seemingly ridiculous names as a feature of modern Star Wars movies, but they are present in the classic Star Wars trilogy too. Return of the Jedi is full of interesting characters, like the elephant-like Ephant Mon, Droopy McCool of the Max Reebo band, and let's not forget Jabba the Hutt’s jester Salacious B Crumb. And if individual characters aren't enough for you you could always speak to Admiral Akbar, a member of the aquatic Mon Calamari species. Perhaps Starkiller was a bit too on-the-nose for the boy who destroys the Death Star, but these other names do make you wonder why they bothered to change it to Skywalker! We eagerly await the release of Therm Scissorpunch: A Star Wars Story. In the meantime, Solo: A Star Wars Story debuts on 25 May 2018 in the US and 24 May in the UK.

    Star Wars - Resistance

Just wondering if anyone watched (the premiere was Monday night on the Disney Channel; I haven't had a chance to see it yet myself) or is planning on watching? I know it's getting a lot of negative fan feedback because it's a "kids' show". (Though it is strange it's on at 10 pm.) But come on, it's not like the rest of SW is all mature adult stuff. Or for the anime style. But I think it's kind of refreshing, to be honest, sets it apart from Clone Wars and Rebels. Anyway, here is the link to the StarWars.com page. And a couple trailers. I admit, when it was first announced, I was on the fence about it. Being a different animation style I'm used to. (Which is silly). But then I realized, heck, it's Star Wars, I know I'm gonna watch it anyways.

    Boba: a Star Wars Story

So it's been confirmed, per THR: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/star-wars-boba-fett-movie-is-happening-james-mangold-direct-1113273 And a million fanboys lost their minds. Now I suppose it's speculation time... Time period? Casting Boba? And will this be one of the other films Alden has signed on to play Han in? Do you want to see what he was up to pre-ANH? Or perhaps, have Disney rescue him from the sarlacc ala the Legends/EU and do something post-ROTJ? Bring Temuera back? Dun dun dun...
  5. At least, according to this guy on whatculture.com... Article. Agree? Disagree? Have your own list?
  6. So there's this guy and on his blog he comes up with Star Wars-themed paper snowflakes. 2014 snowflakes They are so cool! But I don't know if I have the patience to try cutting them out myself...
  7. Didn't see anything updated in here, so figured I would start this thread so we have a place for all the rumors and hypothesis about the new movies. I think my biggest thing is this: if they don't follow the EU in SOME way, it would be like a huuuuge "EFF YOU" to all the fans that have read, and made the EU so crazy successful. Just hope that ol George retains enough power to keep Disney from screwin' with the entire universe.
  8. The BBC is reporting that Miltos Yerolemou has joined the cast for Episode VII in what appears to be a relatively minor role. One of Yerolemou's better known, recent roles is of the Braavosi swordsman Syrio Forel on Game of Thrones. Yerolemou's swordfighting abilities has led to speculation that he will have some sort of involvement with lightsabers, though nothing has been confirmed Yerolemou is actually the second Game of Thrones cast member to join the cast of Episode VII. Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) has previously been announced. Click here to view the article

    Kenobi

Kenobi is a new novel from John Jackson Miller about, you guessed it, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It follows Obi-Wan's early days of exile on Tattooine following the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The Republic has fallen. Sith Lords rule the galaxy. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi has lost everything . . . Everything but hope. Tatooine—a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy. Known to locals only as “Ben,” the bearded and robed offworlder is an enigmatic stranger who keeps to himself, shares nothing of his past, and goes to great pains to remain an outsider. But as tensions escalate between the farmers and a tribe of Sand People led by a ruthless war chief, Ben finds himself drawn into the fight, endangering the very mission that brought him to Tatooine. Ben—Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, hero of the Clone Wars, traitor to the Empire, and protector of the galaxy’s last hope—can no more turn his back on evil than he can reject his Jedi training. And when blood is unjustly spilled, innocent lives threatened, and a ruthless opponent unmasked, Ben has no choice but to call on the wisdom of the Jedi—and the formidable power of the Force—in his never-ending fight for justice. 16. Disney has posted details about an open casting call for two young characters (male and female) with vague background details, and will be holding auditions throughout the UK. The fact that J.J. Abrams is directing and the roles are vague is leading to speculation that this could be for Episode 7 (as the last time the director had a similar listing, he was secretly casting his film Super 8.) Studio has neither confirmed nor denied that these auditions are for Episode 7, and Star Wars has a history of casting relative unknowns for their movies, so the chances could be pretty good that this is indeed for the film. The descriptions of the characters have people speculating how the film is going to involve the characters. Theories have included a story that goes back and forth between the time after Return of the Jedi and the potential setting of Episode 7, or that these characters are going to be friends/supporting characters along with the children of previous characters, even calls for a possible "parental twist" have been tossed around as well. If you're in the UK and interested in auditioning, sources have directed us here for more information.
  17. A lighter side of the Force has been found! Some rare footage from the shooting of the original trilogy has surfaced on YouTube featuring bloopers by the cast! The footage was gathered by J.W. Rinzler, an editor who found the footage in an archive. A small group of people was selected to see the footage at San Diego ComicCon, and after a wait, some of the footage is now able to be viewed by everyone. The video is included after the article. Also surfacing in the past few days was a Laserdisc containing 30 minutes of raw behind-the-scenes footage of the filming of Return of the Jedi. The disc recently sold for $699 on ebay, and the winner plans on making footage available in digital format for everyone. Note: The video is silent the first 48 seconds. This is working as intended. Buzzfeed has also already made gifs of some of the footage. Click here to view the article

  19. Oscar-winner Michael Arndt is out as the screenwriter for Episode VII--but who is coming in?Thursday, Lucasfilm announced a big change-up in the screenwriters for the next film in the Star Wars series. Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) is being replaced by the team of director J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (who has previously been serving as a consultant for the film) in a surprise twist. For those unfamiliar with Kasdan, you may recognize his body of works: The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. "I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script," states Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production." Currently, the studio seems to be remaining mum on the topic of Arndt's departure. This does bring into question whether the original planned direction for the film will continue (Arndt had originally drafted a 40-50 page document), or if Abrams is going to push more towards something like his Star Trek reboots. 20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTV6gHyzOvA The Star Wars/Halloween themed commercial came out this past week to great reviews. The ad features a family all decked out (yes, even the dog) in Star Wars themed costumes to advertise for the newest Android phones. This commercial seems to be one of the first to air in the United States that references the connection openly between the Star Wars franchise and Google's Android phones, and with the acquisition of LucasFilm by Disney, one can only hope that this is just the beginning.

  23. Constructed for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the set used for the location of the home of Anakin Skywalker is due to be reclaimed by the Tunisian desert.Experts on the movements of sand dunes note that the nearby set for Mos Eisley has also been partially buried, and say that this illustrates why settlements are rarely built in desert environments. The sand dunes are moving at roughly 15 metres per year, and will eventually submerge the set and continue past it. Although the sets will re-emerge from the sand they will most likely incur significant damage. Tunisia (the country who plays host to the set) is sure to see an economic downfall from this loss as well, as the desert country was using the set to drive tourism. Click here to view the article
