    Jedi: Fallen Order

So at E3, Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars game has been revealed as being set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Apparently the player takes on the role of a padawan who survived the initial purge and is being hunted down by agents of the Empire. Not much is known about the game yet... Is this the Jedi Knight game we've been waiting for?
  2. To celebrate Star Wars Day 2020, Respawn Entertainment and EA Games have released a free content update for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The update is available now and contains several new features that have been borne from player feedback and add extra replayability to the game. The major new combat feature is called Meditation Training, where Cal can visit any meditation point to battle waves of enemies in a Combat Challenge or use the Battle Grid to design custom encounters featuring any enemy or bosses. Another much requested feature which has finally arrived is the New Journey + mode, allowing you to restart the story but keeping your collectables. So, no more getting sidetracked hunting for those pesky ponchos! Although skills will need to be earned as your new journey progresses you will still keep your unlocked lightsaber parts, so at least you can slice through the Imperial scum in style. Among the new collectables added to the game are new skins for BD-1 and Cal, new lightsaber hilts, and the oft requested red kyber crystal. Some of these are only available through the New Journey + mode, though, so you'll need to have completed the game once already to make use of them. For more information, check out the official announcement and release notes.

    Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a single-player action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on 15 November 2019, and is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows platforms. The game is set in 14 BBY, five years after Revenge of the Sith, and the player assumes the role of Cal Kestis, a former Jedi padawan who survived Order 66. Cal rediscovers his connection to the Force as he progresses through his quest to obtain a Jedi holocron that could hold the key to rebuilding the Jedi Order. Cal's lightsaber is fully customisable as you collect new parts that can be used in various combinations. Development The game was announced on 4 May 2016 and its title was revealed at E3 2018, but little information was given between then and the game's debut at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in April 2019. Shortly before the panel, an EA community manager revealed via Reddit that the game uses Unreal Engine 4, not the Frostbite engine as was originally thought. It was also revealed on Twitter that the game would be single-player only, and would not include microtransactions. According to game director, Stig Asmussen, development of the game was already in progress when it was decided that it would be adapted into the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm were reportedly not initially interested in a Jedi-centric game, until an original story was developed that would justify it. Gameplay footage was revealed at EA Play 2019 on 8 June, with the official trailer debuting at the Xbox E3 Briefing the following day. Merchandise debuted on Triple Force Friday in the following October, ready for the game's release on 15 November. Pre-order bonuses included a unique orange lightsaber blade, as well as an extra skin for BD-1 and two lightsaber hilts. Reception Despite some apparent initial backlash that Respawn were playing it "too safe" by choosing white male protagonist, Jedi: Fallen Order received mostly favourable reviews from critics and players alike upon release, and was widely praised as a vast improvement over EA's previous Star Wars releases. The game's lack of microtransactions and multiplayer has been seen by some as proof that there is still a place in the market for single-player story-driven titles, contrary to EA's general strategy of recent years. Sequel In December 2019 EA posted job vacancies for their Star Wars team at Respawn Entertainment, prompting speculation that a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order was in development, although this has not been confirmed.

New Star Wars game in development?

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launched last month and was widely hailed as a fantastic success for single-player gaming, with EA taking a hands-off approach and allowing Respawn Entertainment to do their thing, without insisting on features such as microtransactions or lootboxes; which have become commonplace in gaming in recent years. Now, it looks like they are set to continue developing their Star Wars portfolio, as new job posting at EA appears to show that they are bolstering the workforce in their Star Wars team at Respawn. This could point to a sequel for Jedi: Fallen Order, which would be the safe play given that they have already proven to EA that the single-player story-driven concepts still work in 2019, or it could equally mean that Respawn are gearing up to tackle another aspect of the Star Wars universe. Fans were clamouring for a Bounty Hunter-esque game even before The Mandalorian won streamers over, and the success of the Disney+ TV show could have been the necessary push to bring us something similar to the once highly anticipated Star Wars 1313 which was canned in 2013 when Disney closed LucasArts. We eagerly await new information, although given the development cycle of gaming, we don't expect it to be forthcoming any time soon.

    Jedi: Fallen Order launch trailer

The official launch trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been released, along with new gameplay footage available across the web from a portion of the game that was made available to previewers in the games industry. Feedback from those that have played the game is mostly positive at the moment, with reviewers saying the game is far deeper than initial previews lead them to believe. Even for non-Star Wars fans, Jedi: Fallen Order represents an interesting proposition - a AAA title focusing on a singleplayer story mode, with no micro-transactions or multiplayer mode in stark contrast to the usual offerings from EA who have previously derided these types of games as being unwanted by modern gamers. Success has the potential to spin EA's current ethos on its head and drive more investment to singleplayer story driven gaming. Check out the trailer below: Jedi: Fallen Order releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on 15 November 2019.
  6. Respawn and EA have released an extended cut of the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay footage. The new video adds extra depth to the gameplay demo, revealing a little more of the story driven aspect of the game as well as showing a few sneaky tidbits that we missed out on the first time around. Jedi: Fallen Order game director Stig Asmussen has responded to criticism that the the gameplay seems to lack depth, saying that the demo footage didn't show the complexity of the combat system as it shows a more focused play-through to better show the narrative and attention to detail that has been put into recreating the Star Wars universe. He also reiterated the game's inspiration from other titles such as Metroid and Castlevania, which wasn't clear from the demo footage either. Check out the extended gameplay footage below: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released this November, and is already available to preorder.
  7. Marvel Comics will release a new five issue mini-series this September, that will serve as a prequel to the Respawn Entertainment video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and introduce some of the game's characters. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - Dark Temple has been written by Matthew Rosenberg (Uncanny X-Men and The Punisher) and illustrated by Paolo Villanelli (Vader: Dark Visions) in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm to ensure continuity across the saga. The story of Jedi: Fallen Order - Dark Temple focuses on Jedi Master Eno Cordova and his padawan Cere Junda, after the Jedi Council sends them on a mission to the planet Ontotho to oversee the excavation of a mysterious temple that has been discovered. Things do not go to plan, and the pair find themselves embroiled in a war between local resistance forces and security troops. While little has been given away so far, there are a few things that we can infer or speculate upon. Timeline Eno and Cere are sent on the mission by the Jedi Council, so the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith have clearly not happened yet, or at least not at the start of the mini-series. In the details given so far for Jedi: Fallen Order Cere has been described as a former Jedi Knight, but here she is listed as merely a padawan. Jedi Master Eno Cordova appears to be a new character. If Cere is due to graduate as a fully fledged Jedi Knight by the end of the mini-series, could Master Cordova's next padawan be Cal Kestis? Also, this is pure wild speculation here, but am I the only one that sees a resemblance between Eno Cordova and actor Tony Amendola, well known for lending his voice to video game characters? Location Ontotho seems to be a brand new planet. Respawn developers have already stated that there is more than one new planet that has been created for Jedi: Fallen Order. The game starts on Bracca, so that's one; could we also be headed to Ontotho during the course of our journey as Cal Kestis?

    Jedi: Fallen Order official trailer

At the Xbox E3 Briefing today the official trailer was released for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The new trailer focuses on the Kashyyyk mission that we previously saw in the EA Play gameplay footage shown yesterday.
  11. Respawn Entertainment today revealed gameplay footage for Jedi: Fallen Order at EA Play's livestream event. You can check out the fifteen minutes of gameplay footage that was shown during the event below. The footage shows new combinations of Force powers that indicate that use of the Force during combat may more nuanced than we've seen in previous Star Wars games. The developers have promised what they called "thoughtful combat" where rather than simply swinging a lightsaber, you will need to time your swings, blocks, and parties to ensure your success. The mission seen in the video occurs on the wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, and we also spotted protagonist Cal Kestis meeting with Saw Gerrera, who fans will recognise from Star Wars Rebels and Rogue One. More details are sure to follow during E3.

  13. Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm have revealed new key art for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order ahead of the EA Play live stream set to reveal long-awaited gameplay footage of the upcoming single-player story-driven action adventure game. We now have a more detailed look at Cal Kestis, the former Jedi padawan and survivor of Order 66, who will be our main character in Jedi: Fallen Order along with some other interesting details. Cal appears to be holding the damaged lightsaber we have already seen in the artwork and reveal trailer for the game. The grounded Venator-class Star Destroyer in the background looks to be the one also seen being dismantled in the trailer, in what is presumed to be an early part of the game. There is a strong Imperial presence in the poster, which not unexpected considering the era in which Jedi: Fallen Order is set; AT-ATs, AT-STs, and TIE fighters can all be seen as can the Second Sister Inquisitor and a pair of the new Purge Troopers. Respawn and Lucasfilm will be hosting a livestream at EA Play tomorrow which promises to give us a glimpse of gameplay footage. You can watch the stream live on YouTube at 9:30 am PT (check the event calendar for your local time). Jedi: Fallen Order will be released on 15 November 2019.
  14. Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment, has promised that gameplay footage for it's upcoming game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be shown at E3 2019. E3 is the highlight of the gaming industry calendar, and will take place in Los Angeles from 11 - 14 June 2019. EA has also hinted that footage could appear at it's own EA Play event on 8 - 9 June in Hollywood. A cinematic trailer for Jedi: Fallen Order was revealed at Celebration Chicago last month, and while it shed new light on the story of the game and the main protagonist Cal Kestis, fans were disappointed in a lack of gameplay footage or a hands-on experience with the game. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released on Xbox, PS4, and PC on 15 November 2019.
  15. The galaxy-wide premiere of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was presented at Celebration today, with Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella, Game Director Stig Asmussen, and their team dishing out the details for their new single-player game coming later this year. With only seven months to go, fans have been clamouring for some footage, and we've finally been treated to a trailer, which you can find further down the page, and new information about the story and it's main character. The game follows Jedi padawan Cal Kestis (played by Gotham's Cameron Monaghan, who joined the developers on stage) who survived the Order 66 and has been keeping his head down, hiding from the Empire in plain sight as a scrapper on the planet Braka, salvaging old warships and debris left behind by The Clone War. When his cover is blown he is forced to go on the run from the Empire's Purge Troopers and the Inquisitors. New planets and characters have been developed for the game, and the team wanted the combat to be authentic and meaningful. The lightsaber content will be easy to pick up but with a layer of depth that could mean it is difficult to fully master. This may mean it is similar to the lightsaber combat found in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. When asked about Cal's lightsaber the response was "how do you know it's Cal's lightsaber?" The lightsaber is said to be integral to the story, and will "grow and evolve" as the story progresses. Cal will be accompanied by a "buddy droid", BD-1, who is a small companion with whom Cal has a boy-and-his-dog type relationship. BD-1's voice was created by Ben Burtt who also created R2D2's voice, amongst many other iconic sounds of the classic trilogy. Cal also has a mentor to share his adventure with, a former Jedi Knight played by actress Debra Wilson. One of Cal's primary rivals is the Second Sister Inquisitor, who along with the Purge Troopers was developed specifically for Jedi: Fallen Order but has already been seen in Marvel's Darth Vader comic series. The Purge Troopers are trained to fight Jedi using a weapon similar to the electrostaffs used by General Grievous' guards in Revenge of the Sith; they respond to Jedi sightings and investigate before the far less numerous Inquisitors are dispatched to the scene. Confirming recent leaks from people involved in the game's development it was announced that Fallen Order is a single-player only story driven game with no microtransactions, and that it was built in Unreal Engine 4, rather than EA's proprietary and much maligned game engine Frostbite 3, which has been a source of frustration for players of other recently released games such as Anthem. The team that has been brought together to work on the game have come from a mix of backgrounds, having worked on games such as Uncharted, God of War, and Metal Gear. They are all big fans of Star Wars and were committed to ensuring that they remain faithful to the universe and treated the source material with respect. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released on Xbox, PS4, and PC on 15 November 2019.
  16. Some long-awaited information about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago this April. New details, and gameplay footage are expected to be shown during a panel at the fan convention. Jedi: Fallen Order is developed by Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends, and will be the first major single-player game focused on lightsaber combat and Force powers since 2010's The Force Unleashed II. All that we know so far is that the game will put players in the shoes of a Jedi padawan who survived Order 66, although it has not been specified how long after the fall of the Jedi Order the game takes place. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set for release in Fall 2019.
  17. EA have revealed during their recent financial statement that Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars video game, Jedi: Fallen Order, will release in autumn 2019. Despite being highly anticipated by fans there is little information available about Jedi: Fallen Order, and no screenshots or footage has been revealed. The game is set in the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and is said to follow a Jedi being hunted down by agents of the Galactic Empire. Respawn's founder Vince Zampella has said that the game will be a single player action adventure game, that will (unsurprisingly) feature lightsaber combat. Development of the game is being lead by Stig Asmussen who was previously the creative lead on God of War III. In a 2016 blog post, Asmussen stated that Respawn "promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet." We impatiently await further details.
