  1. When asked about the casting for Episode 7, Disney Chairman Alan Horn states that it is "almost complete" and that an announcement is coming "shortly." Might it come on Star Wars Day? As well, some second unit filming has been done, in the aforementioned Abu Dhabi and elsewhere, but that principal photography has not yet started. Disney's Alan Horn on casting, release dates, budgets...
  2. During an interview for The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn confirmed that shooting has begun for the latest episode of the Star Wars saga, and that while casting was not completely finished the main actors are all in place. Horn did not disclose any of the cast members but he did acknowledge the screen-writing problems the movie suffered last year and said that the screenplay, co-written by JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan based on an early draft by Michael Arndt, was right where it needed to be. He also reiterated the previously stated release date of December 2015, and said that the movie would pick up 35 years after Return of the Jedi, which would seem to clash with a previous statement that pinned Episode VII at 30 years post-RotJ.

  4. The Star Wars live action television series, which has been stuck in development hell for years is reportedly in the casting phase.First announced by George Lucas in 2005, the Star Wars live action series was highly anticipated by fans who were, at the time, still waiting for Revenge of the Sith to hit the big screen. Since then it has been reported to be at varies stages of production and at one point was said to have 50 episodes already written. Now it seems that Disney are looking to cast a live action Star Wars project separate to the series of movies. It is unlikely that this is the same series that was originally announced, as it has been rumored that this is for a mini-series or television specials. This type of project does seem like the type of thing Disney would venture into in order to capitalise on their new reign over the Star Wars franchise, having recently created a live action television series for their Marvel universe too, Agents of SHIELD. 10. Jack O'Connell currently has few movie credits to his name, most notably the biopic Unbroken alongside Angelina Jolie, and coming of age drama This Is England. He was also a star of the UK television show Skins. Rumour has it that this may be the same role that incumbent Doctor Who star Matt Smith also auditioned for, and that he has since had a further meeting with Episode VII director JJ Abrams. Of course, so many names have been mentioned in relation to the next Star Wars movie at this point, and Disney remain tight-lipped on the cast list, so it is still anybody's game. With filming due to start within the next few months we are sure more solid casting news will surface soon.
