  1. To celebrate Star Wars Day 2020, Respawn Entertainment and EA Games have released a free content update for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The update is available now and contains several new features that have been borne from player feedback and add extra replayability to the game. The major new combat feature is called Meditation Training, where Cal can visit any meditation point to battle waves of enemies in a Combat Challenge or use the Battle Grid to design custom encounters featuring any enemy or bosses. Another much requested feature which has finally arrived is the New Journey + mode, allowing you to restart the story but keeping your collectables. So, no more getting sidetracked hunting for those pesky ponchos! Although skills will need to be earned as your new journey progresses you will still keep your unlocked lightsaber parts, so at least you can slice through the Imperial scum in style. Among the new collectables added to the game are new skins for BD-1 and Cal, new lightsaber hilts, and the oft requested red kyber crystal. Some of these are only available through the New Journey + mode, though, so you'll need to have completed the game once already to make use of them. For more information, check out the official announcement and release notes.
  2. Marvel Comics will release a new five issue mini-series this September, that will serve as a prequel to the Respawn Entertainment video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and introduce some of the game's characters. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - Dark Temple has been written by Matthew Rosenberg (Uncanny X-Men and The Punisher) and illustrated by Paolo Villanelli (Vader: Dark Visions) in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm to ensure continuity across the saga. The story of Jedi: Fallen Order - Dark Temple focuses on Jedi Master Eno Cordova and his padawan Cere Junda, after the Jedi Council sends them on a mission to the planet Ontotho to oversee the excavation of a mysterious temple that has been discovered. Things do not go to plan, and the pair find themselves embroiled in a war between local resistance forces and security troops. While little has been given away so far, there are a few things that we can infer or speculate upon. Timeline Eno and Cere are sent on the mission by the Jedi Council, so the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith have clearly not happened yet, or at least not at the start of the mini-series. In the details given so far for Jedi: Fallen Order Cere has been described as a former Jedi Knight, but here she is listed as merely a padawan. Jedi Master Eno Cordova appears to be a new character. If Cere is due to graduate as a fully fledged Jedi Knight by the end of the mini-series, could Master Cordova's next padawan be Cal Kestis? Also, this is pure wild speculation here, but am I the only one that sees a resemblance between Eno Cordova and actor Tony Amendola, well known for lending his voice to video game characters? Location Ontotho seems to be a brand new planet. Respawn developers have already stated that there is more than one new planet that has been created for Jedi: Fallen Order. The game starts on Bracca, so that's one; could we also be headed to Ontotho during the course of our journey as Cal Kestis?
  3. The galaxy-wide premiere of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was presented at Celebration today, with Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella, Game Director Stig Asmussen, and their team dishing out the details for their new single-player game coming later this year. With only seven months to go, fans have been clamouring for some footage, and we've finally been treated to a trailer, which you can find further down the page, and new information about the story and it's main character. The game follows Jedi padawan Cal Kestis (played by Gotham's Cameron Monaghan, who joined the developers on stage) who survived the Order 66 and has been keeping his head down, hiding from the Empire in plain sight as a scrapper on the planet Braka, salvaging old warships and debris left behind by The Clone War. When his cover is blown he is forced to go on the run from the Empire's Purge Troopers and the Inquisitors. New planets and characters have been developed for the game, and the team wanted the combat to be authentic and meaningful. The lightsaber content will be easy to pick up but with a layer of depth that could mean it is difficult to fully master. This may mean it is similar to the lightsaber combat found in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. When asked about Cal's lightsaber the response was "how do you know it's Cal's lightsaber?" The lightsaber is said to be integral to the story, and will "grow and evolve" as the story progresses. Cal will be accompanied by a "buddy droid", BD-1, who is a small companion with whom Cal has a boy-and-his-dog type relationship. BD-1's voice was created by Ben Burtt who also created R2D2's voice, amongst many other iconic sounds of the classic trilogy. Cal also has a mentor to share his adventure with, a former Jedi Knight played by actress Debra Wilson. One of Cal's primary rivals is the Second Sister Inquisitor, who along with the Purge Troopers was developed specifically for Jedi: Fallen Order but has already been seen in Marvel's Darth Vader comic series. The Purge Troopers are trained to fight Jedi using a weapon similar to the electrostaffs used by General Grievous' guards in Revenge of the Sith; they respond to Jedi sightings and investigate before the far less numerous Inquisitors are dispatched to the scene. Confirming recent leaks from people involved in the game's development it was announced that Fallen Order is a single-player only story driven game with no microtransactions, and that it was built in Unreal Engine 4, rather than EA's proprietary and much maligned game engine Frostbite 3, which has been a source of frustration for players of other recently released games such as Anthem. The team that has been brought together to work on the game have come from a mix of backgrounds, having worked on games such as Uncharted, God of War, and Metal Gear. They are all big fans of Star Wars and were committed to ensuring that they remain faithful to the universe and treated the source material with respect. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released on Xbox, PS4, and PC on 15 November 2019.
