    The Force Awakens at Comic-Con

Star Wars and Comic-Con have been soul mates since way back in 1976 when Lucasfilm's Charley Lippincott attempted to drum up support for the original Star Wars movie by appealing the the sci-fi and fantasy lovers attending San Diego Comic-Con. It's no surprise then, that the powers that be have chosen to reveal new information about The Force Awakens at this year's event. Attendees this year were treated to a free concert featuring some of the saga's best scores by composer John Williams, with io9 stating that Lucasfilm "took the bar set by other studios in the past and blew it away like the Death Star". If spoilers are not your thing, then you may want to stop reading now, as I delve in to the new reveals from Comic-Con. Domhnall Gleeson's character is called General Hux, and is definitely not a good guy. Hux is the commander of Starkiller Base, which where the First Order has made their headquarters.Simon Pegg does appear to be inside an alien/creature suit in the behind the scenes video, putting rest to the rumors of his involvment in The Force Awakens (which he previously denied).Bobbajo is the name of the nomadic character we saw in JJ Abram's first video from the set of the desert planet we now know as Jakku. The next trailer for The Force Awakens will be ready in the fall.Rogue One will begin filming in three weeks time, according the Kathleen Kennedy, and will be filmed in 6K. Also at San Diego Comic-Con, was this behind the scenes reel, just in case you need a little something extra to hype yourself up for The Force Awakens:

The curious case of C-3PO's arm

It's no surprise that some of the cast of The Force Awakens will have changed somewhat from their last Star Wars chronological appearance in Return of the Jedi. After all, thirty years have passed and our heroes have gone a little greyer, but intriguingly C-3PO seems to have undergone a color change of his own. Recent pictures of merchandise spotted in Mexico - mainly a promotional Pepsi can design - have shown everybody's favorite protocol droid, C-3PO, sporting an arm painted an unfamiliar shade of red. There was never any secret about Threepio being cobbled together from spare parts, The Phantom Menace showed us a young Anakin Skywalker building him in his mother's house, and more than one of the Star Wars movies have shown him in more than one piece. How C-3PO came to be in possession of this oddly colored arm is not clear, but it does raise further questions about what has been going in the galaxy while we have been away. The same image of the three droids and C-3PO's red arm has also been spotted on other officially licensed products, so the shot appears to be legitimate. Time will tell us whether this is a mistake, a temporary costume change, or something more permanent.
  3. An interview on the official Star Wars website has revealed new details about Andy Serkis' character in The Force Awakens. Andy Serkis has been a subject of much speculation since it was first annoucned that he had been cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but up until now we have only heard his voice in the first teaser trailer. Now, in an exclusive interview with photogropher Annie Leibovitz on the official Star Wars website, new details have emerged about the actor's character. The character's visual appearance is still in question as the character is portrayed using motion capture technology, although it's possible we have caught a distant glimpse of him in The Force Awakens' second trailer, but the biggest reveal so far is his name and title: Supreme Leader Snoke. Although this is just speculation, it is easy to infer that Supreme Leader Snoke may be the leader of The First Order, and is therefore analogous to Emperor Palpatine. We also know that Serkis did the voiceover for the first teaser trailer, "There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side and the light." From this statement we can also conclude that this is Snoke speaking, and that he is familiar with the ways of the Force; he may even be affiliated with Kylo Ren, who we already know brandishes a strikingly Sith-looking red lightsaber. Further details have not yet emerged, so we don't even know what this character looks like, but it stands to reason that he is most likely not human. Here's that first teaser trailer with Serkis' voiceover, if you need a refresher: View full article

  5. James Bond actor Daniel Craig has long been rumored to have a cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but fellow actor Simon Pegg has apparently outed the current 007 star as a Stormtrooper while being quizzed on his own involvment in the movie. Pegg quickly followed up his comment by saying "I shouldn't have said that". If true, fans may have trouble spotting Craig in the movie as he will be amongst the ranks of identically-clad Stormtroopers of the First Order. Of course, it's entirely possible (and likely) that his comment was merely a joke, as it has not been officially confirmed.
  6. Billy Lourd has revealed during an interview with ET Online that her appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is not as a young Princess Leia in a flashback scene as has been previously rumored, a news snippet that has since been repeated by Carrie Fisher herself. During the interview, which was to promote new television show Scream Queens, Lourd stated that although the rumors were false she is still involved in the movie. This may mean that her appearance in The Force Awakens is a much more minor role than thought, as she declined to give further details on her character.

  8. A pair of Star Wars fans from the UK have sent a model X-wing into space, in the hopes of securing tickets to the premiere of The Force Awakens. The duo are an Essex group that use weather balloons to take photographs of the Earth from space, and to get the production teams attention they attached a model X-wing to one of their balloons and send it to the edge of space at a cost of around £1,200. They recorded the video and tweeted director JJ Abrams their plea for tickets.
  9. The new trailer for The Force Awakens is out, and we've been watching on repeat, but have we really fully digested the new information? Here we take a closer look at the second trailer and point out a few things we've spotted. I'm sure it goes without saying that this article contains spoilers! The trailer opens with a vehicle racing across desert scene, could this be the speeder we saw Rey (Daisy Ridley) driving in the first trailer? Apparently the desert planet is not Tatooine, as previously speculated, but is instead a new planet known as Jakku. 0:30 - The vehicle passes a Star Destroyer and a crashed Rebellion-era X-wing (note the classic trilogy style engines on the wings). They seem to have been there for quite a while, judging by the general decay and amount of sand that has gathered around the larger starship. A voiceover, which sounds a lot like Mark Hamill reciting a version of his talk with Leia from Return of the Jedi, says "The Force is strong in my family." If you listen carefully there is a creepy Sith-like whispering echo repeating the words. 0:35 - "My father has it." Darth Vader's melted helmet rests on a plinth; clearly somebody has this on display. 0:45 - "I have it." A cloaked figure sits at a campfire and rests a cybernetic hand on R2-D2: Is this Luke Skywalker himself? 0:52 - "My sister has it." We see a very familiar looking lightsaber being handed to female character by an unidentified alien. The lightsaber appears to be the lightsaber once owned by Anakin Skywalker, which was passed by Obi-Wan Kenobi to Luke in A New Hope. The lightsaber was lost after Luke's duel with Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and has seemingly resurfaced. The hand looks too young to be Leia, but it was rumoured previously that Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billy Lourde, had been cast to portray Leia in a flashback scene. If so, this could be it. Pay attention to the background, as there seems to be an audience. The trailer fades to black and the voiceover finishes with "You have that power too." Given the preceding speech about family, we could surmise that he is referring to one of the newer cast members, who may be a descendant of one of the Skywalker twins. 1:05 - Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and his T-70 X-wing squadron skim across a body of water surrounded by forest. We see Poe inside the cockpit, interestingly his helmet bears the insignia of the Rebel Alliance. 1:08 - A brief flash of Kylo Ren slashing his infamous cross-guard lightsaber. A stormtrooper is lurking in the background. 1:09 - Rey and Finn (John Boyega) flee as a TIE fighter pursues them, while BB-88 wheels along behind them. 1:10 - Kylo Ren shows his face again, or not; he is sporting a metallic mask and appears to be involved in a battle of sorts. Stormtroopers in the background appear to be holding civilians while multiple fires burn around them. 1:12 - Stormtroopers assemble outside some kind of base. A large banner with a new logo reminiscent of the Imperial insignia adorns the building, which seems to be heavily armed with turbolasers similar to those seen on the exterior of the Death Star. An updated TIE fighter can be seen clearly to right of the picture. Some important people appear to be on the balcony above them; a new Imperial leader, perhaps? 1:15 - Somebody seems to be making a getaway in a TIE fighter while the garrison tries to stop them. As we have seen Finn in a stormtrooper uniform, and removing his helmet in the previous trailer, could this be how he ends up on Jakku with Rey? 1:19 - A new model of Star Destroyer makes an appearance, as we see several shuttle-like craft approach. 1:20 - A chrome plated stormtrooper walks a corridor in what is clearly an Imperial facility, although the rocky wall suggests it may be an underground base rather than a space station. The character is rumoured to be played by Gwendolin Christie and known as Captain Phasma. 1:21 - Various character shots, including BB-8 peeking around the corner on board the Millennium Falcon and Rey giving Finn a helping hand. 1:25 - The Falcon appears, sporting it's updated squared communications array, and unsurprisingly behind chased by a TIE fighter. Some things never change. In a classic Han Solo move, it dives down inside a crashed starship, which judging by the array of engines visible may be an upside-down Super Star Destroyer. Like the previously seen Star Destroyer wreck, it appears to have been there a while. 1:28 - In case you were wondering what an updated TIE pilot looks like, here you go! Apparently the Empire only has one colour of LED for the internal displays. 1:34 - "Chewie... We're home." In an obvious nod to the original 1977 Star Wars promotional stills, Han Solo and Chewbacca strike a pose. Han seems to have gained a few more greys than his copilot. Did you spot anything we didn't?
