  1. Celebration Anaheim attendees were treated to a special teaser of upcoming spin-off Star Wars: Rogue One this weekend.Speaking at Celebration Kathleen Kennedy and director Gareth Edwards revealed new information about the upcoming spin-off, which has only one cast member confirmed so far - Felicity Jones, who will allegedly play a Rebel soldier. Those attending the panel were also treated to a special teaser trailer which has leaked online, which confirms the setting as being pre-A New Hope, with a plot revolving around Rebel Alliance forces retrieving the plans for the first dreaded Death Star. The teaser trailer is at this stage more of a concept reveal, as the film has not yet started shooting, but is certain to whet the appetites of eager fans. Edwards also stated to fans that "the absence of the Jedi is omnipresent in the film. It hangs over the whole movie", and further elaborated that the difference between the good guys and the bad guys may not be so clear cut. The spin-off movies will be known as 'Anthology' films and will be stand alone features that form part of the official canon but do not rely on the core characters of the main Star Wars saga. Rogue One is currently scheduled for release on 16 December 2016. Click here to view the article

  4. It has been revealed that Alexandre Desplat has been commissioned to score the soundtrack for upcoming Gareth Edwards spin-off film, Star Wars: Rogue One. The composer previously worked with Edwards on 2014's Godzilla reboot. This makes Rogue One the first big screen Star Wars movie to be scored by a composer other than John Williams, and is not the first time that Desplat has contributed film scores to a franchise originally assigned to Williams, having scored the final two movies of the Harry Potter series. Fans may be dismayed at the news that John Williams will not score the movie, but Alexandre Desplat also has an impressive track record, and has been nominated for several awards over the years, including winning an Oscar for best soundtrack on The Grand Budapest Hotel at the 87th Academy Awards earlier this year. 6. Star Wars: Rogue One will be the title of the first spin-off movie, it has been revealed.Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger revealed the news at a shareholders meeting in San Francisco this Thursday. Also announced was the release date of the next Star Wars big screen outing: 16th December 2017. Rogue One will be the first spin-off movie and will placate fans while they await Star Wars Episode VIII, and will be directed by Godzilla director Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz (Cinderalla, About a Boy). Little is known about the movie at this point, although it has been confirmed that Felicity Jones has been cast. Jones, 31, is perhaps best known for her recent role in 2014 hit The Theory of Everything. It's fair to say that with the name Rogue One, the film is likely to feature Rogue Squadron, the rebel starfighter group first seen efending the rebel base on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. In the former expanded universe, Luke Skywalker lead Rogue Squadron after the events of A New Hope, and the fan favourite organization spawned it's own line of Star Wars novels, comics, and video games. Rogue One will reportedly start filming in the UK in summer 2015. Click here to view the article
