  1. Lucasfilm Games is now the official home of Star Wars gaming, according to news from the official website. Relaunching their social media channels and releasing a new sizzle reel celebrating current Star Wars titles, Lucasfilm Games is being repositioned as the hub for Star Wars gaming news and promises to push the franchise into "a new and unprecedented phase of creativity" by collaborating with Lucasfilm and top games studios. It's currently unclear what this means for the oft-criticised EA exclusivity deal that has been the source of much consternation amongst fans and gamers over the years since Disney disbanded LucasArts, but it does seem that by bringing all Star Wars games under a new and familiar banner the plan may be to allow more developers to play in the Star Wars universe. There is no hint that Lucasfilm Games will become a developer in its own right, of course. Older fans will remember that the Lucasfilm Games brand was originally launched in 1982 before being renamed LucasArts in 1990. LucasArts were prolific, developing and publishing many games throughout their tenure before being disbanded by Disney in 2003 when the licence for Star Wars franchise games was handed over to EA. Does this mean that Star Wars gaming news is on the way? I guess we will have to follow them and find out. You can follow Lucasfilm Games on Twitter @LucasfilmGames, and on Facebook @Lucasfilmgames.
  2. Update: Since time of publishing it has been discovered that the vacancies are for only marketing and public relations roles. The original article is preserved below for reference. Job vacancies have appeared on the Disney Careers website that appear to indicate a return to in-house development of Star Wars games. The new positions at Lucasfilm Games include high level develop roles such as Producers and Art Directors for work on new console projects. Developer EA Games has held exclusive development rights for Star Wars properties on most consoles since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012; this included LucasArts, which they promptly shuttered. While LucasArts released many Star Wars games over the years, EA has only managed to release two AAA titles: Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront 2, both of which have had a mixed reception. Jedi: Fallen Order is currently still in development by EA subsidiary Respawn Entertainment, but little is known about the game at this time, although new details are expected at Celebration next month. So far more Star Wars projects have been cancelled than released, including a game by Dead Space developer Visceral, and Star Wars 1313 which was in development by LucasArts at the time it was closed. This may indicate that Disney does not intend to renew EA's exclusive hold of the Star Wars licence. Could we see a return to the glory days of Star Wars gaming?

    Tiny Death Star Announced

"The Empire needs your help! In collaboration with LucasArts and Tiny Tower creators NimbleBit, Disney Mobile introduces Star Wars: Tiny Death Star, a new game for mobile devices. Live life on the dark side and join Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader on a mission to attract Galactic bitizens, run intergalactic businesses, and build an all-new Death Star. Construct unique Star Wars themed locations to attract iconic characters and species to your space station in this 8-bit style game. Star Wars: Tiny Death Star will soon be available worldwide." -Disney Interactive After all the successes (and addictions to) with Tiny Tower by NimbleBit, Disney Interactive has announced the coming of Tiny Death Star. Tiny Death Star will be an 8-bit style game where the player controls what is added to the map. The game is being developed by Disney Mobile and NimbleBit, with LucasArts acting as partner to manage the licensing as they have with Angry Birds Star Wars. Rumors are that the game may turn into more shorts, along the lines of the Lego: Star Wars brand, since NimbleBit has created shorts with the original Tiny Tower.
  4. According to Wikipedia... http://youtu.be/BQyGu4EqZsU I'm certainly stoked for it! There's no official word yet on the release date (I'm guessing next year at the earliest) or which plaltforms it will be for (though I assume PC, Playstation 3, and XBox 360 will all be represented). Some of the gameplay moves (rolling between cover and yanking enemies over cover for a kill) and even some of the HUD elements remind me of Mass Effect 3.
