  1. Caution: Potential Star Wars Episode VIII major spoilers lurk within this article; read on at your own risk! If you're hoping to remain spoiler free for Star Wars Episode VIII then you may need to stop reading as new rumors have surfaced regarding the role that Jurassic Park star Laura Dern will play, and how this will affect other established characters. Consider yourself warned! The new rumors point towards Dern's character being a high-ranking officer or politician working with the Resistance, and she is said to have an "antagonistic relationship" with Oscar Isaac's Resistance ace-pilot, Poe Dameron. According to Latino-Review a key scene involving Dern comes after Carrie Fisher's General Leia is gravely injured in a First Order attack, while other scenes hint at Dameron deliberately disobeying orders. Further speculation about the character suggests that Dern's character may even be a political rival of Leia, and wants to see a strong central government rather than increased sovereignty for individual systems. This could conceivably tie-in with upcoming Claudia Gray novel Bloodline, which is said to see Leia face-off against political rivals in a pre-The Force Awakens setting where the New Republic is trying to counter growing threats to peace in the galaxy. Star Wars Episode VIII is due for release on 15 December 2017.
  2. Bencio Del Toro, who has been a rumored link to Star Wars for some time now has been officially announced as a cast member for Star Wars Episode VIII. His role has not been revealed, but previous rumors have pointed towards his character being a villian. Del Toro has previously won an Oscar, Golden Globe, and a Bafta for his role in 2000's Traffic, and has also been seen in The Usual Suspects and Snatch. Laura Dern, who is perhaps most well known for her performance in Jurassic Park was also announced for Episode VIII, but her role has also not been confirmed. She has previously picked up a Golden Globe for the HBO comedy series Enlightened, and can also be seen in the rebooted Twin Peaks. Kelly Marie Tran is a relative newcomer who has also been confirmed. She has made numerous appearances in videos for CollegeHumor and has also had a role on the TV adaptation of About A Boy. Confirmed returning cast members from The Force Awakens include Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Anthony Daniels, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VIII started filming on 15 February 2015 and will be released on 15 December 2017.
