  1. Andy

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

The show was officially announced, along with the news that Ewan McGregor would reprise his role of Kenobi, at D23 in August 2019, after months of speculation. During Disney's 2020 Investor's Day call it was revealed that Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Darth Vader.
  2. With Kathleen Kennedy recently revealing that the scripts for the upcoming live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series are already finished, the main man himself has finally started talking; and it turns out Ewan McGregor is pretty good at keeping secrets, even when speculation was at a fever pitch. It’s a massive relief. Because for four years, I’ve been having to lie to people about it. Ewan McGregor During an interview, McGregor is reported to have revealed that his series won't start shooting until summer 2020, and that there will be a total of six hour-long episodes. McGregor intends to play the role of the erstwhile Jedi Master closer to Sir Alec Guinness' portrayal of the character in the original Star Wars trilogy, and at the age of 48 he will be pretty close to Kenobi's canonical age in this series, which is set around 11 years before the events of the first movie. The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show will likely not hit the Disney+ streaming service until 2021, but there is plenty more in the pipeline to keep Star Wars fans happy until then.
  3. Deborah Chow has been chosen to direct the upcoming Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, it has been announced. The announcement came via the official Star Wars Instagram, and later confirmed via an interview with Variety. Chow's TV credits include Better Call Saul, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods novels, and Netflix/Marvel show Jessica Jones, as well as already having a hand in upcoming show The Mandalorian. We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I'm absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story. Kathleen Kennedy Ewan McGregor will be reprising the role of Obi-Wan, which he made his own in the Star Wars prequels. Not much is known about the show, except that it is set eight years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which puts it at around 11 years before the original Star Wars movie. The Obi-Wan TV series, which will be a Disney+ exclusive, doesn't have a release date yet, but is expected to begin shooting next year.
  4. The return of Ewan McGregor to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi has been rumoured and speculated about for years, and now several news outlets, including Variety and The Guardian, are reporting that fans will finally get their wish. The role of the Jedi Knight made famous by Sir Alec Guinness first became McGregor's in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and he continued in the role throughout the Star Wars prequels. Kenobi was previously all but confirmed to return in a standalone movie before the spin-off anthology films were canned, following the underwhelming (according to Disney execs) performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story. The new word on the grapevine is that Disney has commissioned a TV series that will develop the story of Obi-Wan, with McGregor signing on for his return. The show would presumably be set during the dark times between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and follow the exiled Kenobi on Tatooine. The series would of course find a home on the Disney+ streaming service which launches later this year, and would sit alongside The Mandalorian and the as yet untitled Cassian Andor series. No concrete details have been revealed yet, but with the Disney D23 Expo just around the corner, we are sure to hear something very soon, but until we see Ewan McGregor walk out on stage with a cheeky "hello there!" I certainly wouldn't blame anybody for taking this news with a hefty pinch of salt.
  5. Having spoken to fellow Star Wars veterans Mark Hamill and Ewan McGregor, Mace Windu actor Samuel L Jackson has revealed that none of them have been contacted by the Star Wars Episode VII casting department.Jackson says that despite repeated hints that he want to return for Episode VII all he has had is an "hmm". It was reported earlier in the year that Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the classic trilogy, was in training to get fit for a return to Star Wars. But according to Jackson the two spoke recently and Hamill denied being contacted to reprise his role. Also speaking to Samuel L Jackson recently was Ewan McGregor, who has also denied any involvement with the new sequel trilogy in production by Disney. The Episodes VII script has apparently still not been finalised, and producers are keen to cast a 40-something military man, similar to Matt Damon's portrayal in 2013's Elysium.
