  1. Jackson says that despite repeated hints that he want to return for Episode VII all he has had is an "hmm". It was reported earlier in the year that Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the classic trilogy, was in training to get fit for a return to Star Wars. But according to Jackson the two spoke recently and Hamill denied being contacted to reprise his role. Also speaking to Samuel L Jackson recently was Ewan McGregor, who has also denied any involvement with the new sequel trilogy in production by Disney. The Episodes VII script has apparently still not been finalised, and producers are keen to cast a 40-something military man, similar to Matt Damon's portrayal in 2013's Elysium.
  2. While we are still waiting for solid casting news, the latest information comes from an insider that told Yahoo! News that construction of the interior and exterior of the Millennium Falcon was now complete. The set is apparently a full-scale model of the starship, and has been constructed in sections so it can be dismantled and reassembled in Pinewood Studios when production moves there for filming in January 2014. The return of the Falcon is sure to be a welcome addition to Episode VII, and has always been a firm favourite with fans. According to sources this set is expected to be the definitive version of the Corellian starship. But of course, it won't be complete without smuggler and scoundrel owner, Han Solo, and his Wookiee co-pilot, Chewbacca!
  3. Abrams is notorious for remaining tight-lipped about his movies, and the same is true when it comes to Star Wars Episode VII. Abrams hinted that he wants to return Star Wars to it's grittier space-western roots of the classic movies, rather than the scintillating cities of the prequel trilogy. Speaking to The Times newspaper he said, "I loved how Star Wars had that sense of a world far beyond the borders of what you can see and have been told – it's one of the things it did so brilliantly. "If you watch the first movie, you don't actually know exactly what the Empire is trying to do. They're going to rule by fear – but you don't know what their end game is. "The beauty of that movie was that it was an unfamiliar world, and yet you wanted to see it expand and to see where it went." This echoes previous statements that suggest Abrams was trying to make Star Wars Episode VII more like the original movies, however there is still no solid confirmation of what form the story will take or even who has even been cast.
  4. Producer Kathleen Kennedy apparently called on Disney bosses to push back the release date as we creep closer to the expected filming start date of spring 2014. It is believed that production falling behind schedule is what prompted the departure of screenwriter Michael Arndt, leaving the task of scripting Episode VII to director JJ Abrams and The Empire Strikes Back co-writer Lawrence Kasdan. Disney plans to release a new Star Wars movie every year, including the main Star Wars saga and various spin-offs every other year, and it seems that Disney CEO Bob Iger does not plan on letting this grand scheme fall behind. 2015 is already packed full of big movies, with the final installment of Hunger Games, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the Batman and Superman movie, and Disney clearly wants a slice of the action. Let's hope they can pull it off without having to rush Star Wars Episode VII.
  5. Oscar-winner Michael Arndt is out as the screenwriter for Episode VII--but who is coming in?Thursday, Lucasfilm announced a big change-up in the screenwriters for the next film in the Star Wars series. Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) is being replaced by the team of director J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (who has previously been serving as a consultant for the film) in a surprise twist. For those unfamiliar with Kasdan, you may recognize his body of works: The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. "I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script," states Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production." Currently, the studio seems to be remaining mum on the topic of Arndt's departure. This does bring into question whether the original planned direction for the film will continue (Arndt had originally drafted a 40-50 page document), or if Abrams is going to push more towards something like his Star Trek reboots. A Change in the Lineup

  7. This was posted on Yahoo news today. According to the article, screenwriter Michael Arndt has been replaced by a team consisting of Lawrence Kasdan and the director J.J. Abrams. Arndt had previously been a screenwriter for films such as Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 and had multiple Academy Award nominations, including a win. Kasdan has co-written the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  8. During an appearance on UK television's Graham Norton Show, Harrison Ford suggested that he hasn't quite decided whether he wants to return to the role of Han Solo after a 30 year break.Although Ford says he is keep to do more Indiana Jones, he seems less keen to reprise the role of smuggler, scoundrel, and hero of the Rebellion Han Solo. Ford's apparent dislike of the character has been evident since Return of the Jedi's release in 1983 when he stated that he thought Han Solo should have been killed off. In an interview in 2010 he repeated this view, saying that Solo was "not so interesting to me". It has still not been officially confirmed whether any of the big three; Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, or Harrison Ford will return for Star Wars Episode VII, and we wonder whether a 70-year old Solo would be as quick with a blaster as he was in the classic trilogy. But one thing is for certain, his absence from the sequel trilogy would be disappointing to Star Wars fans. Harrison Ford is currently promoting his latest movie, the big screen adaptation of Ender's Game, and has also recently taken on a role in the next installment of the Expendables. 10. The casting call, which has been linked to director JJ Abrams and producers of Star Wars Episode VII, asks for a 7ft 3in actor with a slim build. Mayhew, who recently underwent surgery to enable him to walk again after years of poor mobility, told Bleeding Cool that he fully intends to pursue the role of Chewbacca. It is currently unknown whether he will be well enough in time for production to start in early 2014. Is Disney planning on recasting Chewbacca or a fellow Wookiee, or perhaps simply keeping their options open? Time will tell as we creep slowly towards production.

  22. Star Wars Episode VII is apparently due to make a U-turn from the digital shooting of the prequel era and return to 35mm film.Director JJ Abrams is expected to bring his director of photography, Daniel Mindel on board to film Episode VII, which will mean a return to 35mm film, a format Abrams is known to be committed to. 2002 saw the release of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, which was the first foray of Star Wars onto the latest high definition digital systems, followed by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in 2005. A return to celluloid could mean the sequels will evoke the classic trilogy rather than the prequels. Abrams and Mindel previously used 35mm to bring 2009's Star Trek and it's sequel Star Trek: Into Darkness to the big screen. Click here to view the article
