  2. Carrie Fisher has never been one to keep quiet, and despite a lack of official confirmation she has again been speaking about her role in Star Wars Episode VII. /Film reported that the 57 year old actress, who played Princess Leia Organa in the classic Star Wars trilogy, has recently told Jim Jeffries of television show Legit that she will be in London for six months while filming for the latest Star Wars movie. This, if accurate, seems to suggest that the role of the Big Three may be bigger than originally expected, and links in with talk that the script was rewritten to include more of the original cast before handing over to the new generation.

  4. If true, this would be the first cast member announced for Star Wars: Episode VII which is due to start filming at Pinewood Studios in April, just two months away. Driver would reportedly take on a similar role to that of classic Star Wars trilogy villain Darth Vader, and the delayed decision was due to scheduling conflicts with his current television roles for HBO's Girls which have now been resolved. Variety's source has said that the deal has not yet been finalised but should go through in the next few days. In addition to Driver's role as Hannah's boyfriend on the hit HBO drama, his other credits include Inside Llewyn Davis and Frances Ha, and is currently filming Warner Bros' Midnight Special. So far the only officially confirmed character for Episode VII is R2-D2.
  5. Director JJ Abrams has revealed that the Star Wars Episode VII script has been finished after it was delayed last year.Abrams was asked at the Television Critics Association press tour while promoting his new series Believe, where he stated that the script is complete and they were now in "deep prep" for filming. He spoke about Imax, too, and said that he would use Imax if the situation was right for it. "The problem with IMAX is that it’s a very loud camera. It’s a very unreliable camera. Only so much film can be in the camera. You can’t really do intimate scenes with it. It’s slow. They break down often." There has also been more recent casting rumours, such as Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons, who although earlier in the week denied his involvement with Star Wars Episode VII, Abrams has since confirmed that he has been in talks with Plemons. Dame Judy Dench has also been tipped for the role of Mon Mothma, but this is more likely to be purely wishful thinking. In related news, Carrie Fisher has told reporters that she, along with Mark Hamil and Harrison Ford are due to start filming in March or April. Fisher can also be seen with James Earl Jones in an upcoming episode of The Big Bang Theory later this month. Click here to view the article
  6. Several rumours have surfaced recently that suggest that Mara Jade Skywalker is set to make her movie debut in Star Wars Episode VII, after receiving an on-screen introduction in upcoming television series Star Wars Rebels. This news comes after hearing about the great expanded universe shuffle for which Disney have convened the Lucasfilm Story Group to create a single version of Star Wars canon that encapsulates the expanded universe as well as the movies and new TV shows. Including a hugely popular EU figure like Mara Jade could have far reaching implications on the expanded universe. As the wife of Luke Skywalker and mother of their son Ben, Mara features heavily in the New Jedi Order and Legacy eras, and has an extensive backstory as a highly skilled Force-sensitive Imperial operative, an Emperor's Hand. JJ Abrams has recently told press that all Star Wars Episode VII rumours so far have been false, but he said similar things about rumours for Star Trek: Into Darkness which later turned out to be true. If true, it will be interesting to find out whether EU elements have been incorporated into the latest movie, or whether the timeline as we know it is to be totally overwritten with a brand new continuity, which has been suggested might happen. 7. Earlier in the year it was rumoured that Han Solo's legendary YT-1300 freighter, the Millennium Falcon, was being designed ready for a comeback in Star Wars Episode VII.While we are still waiting for solid casting news, the latest information comes from an insider that told Yahoo! News that construction of the interior and exterior of the Millennium Falcon was now complete. The set is apparently a full-scale model of the starship, and has been constructed in sections so it can be dismantled and reassembled in Pinewood Studios when production moves there for filming in January 2014. The return of the Falcon is sure to be a welcome addition to Episode VII, and has always been a firm favourite with fans. According to sources this set is expected to be the definitive version of the Corellian starship. But of course, it won't be complete without smuggler and scoundrel owner, Han Solo, and his Wookiee co-pilot, Chewbacca! Click here to view the article

  9. It was inevitable that the new Star Wars movie would mean new lightsabers, but new information suggests that prop artists are hard at work constructing new Jedi weapons for use in the upcoming filming due to start later this year. The report from Den of Geek indicates that security has stepped up at Pinewood Studios as construction begins on not only props but sets, too. Well, one set in particular: It was rumored a long while back that a full-scale set of the Millennium Falcon had been designed, and it is now rumored to be being assembled at the studio. There has also been news that much of the model making crew has been hired on 7-year contracts, lending weight to the theory that director JJ Abrams wants a sequel trilogy that is more authentic to the classic Star Wars trilogy, with more practical effects.

  12. With Star Wars Episode VII expected to begin shooting at Pinewood studios in May 2014, ILM are investing in their London facilities to work on these and other projects. We also want to work with UK-based directors; there’s a lot of filmmaking going on in the UK. And, the government has invested in the industry there." The Soho area is already home to several leading visual effects houses, and ILM intend to open later this year, with only a small presence at the Pinewood studio as needed. It has also been revealed that ILM London's first project will be Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron. In October 2013 Lucasfilm announced that Revenge of the Sith's visual effects producer, Roger Guyett would be returning for Episode VII. Guyett previously worked with Abrams on his Star Trek movies.

  18. Originally, the plan seemed to involve Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford returning in a supporting capacity for Star Wars Episode VII with the newer recruits taking the lead, but now it seems that the fan favourites will be getting one last outing as the main stars. It is still rumoured that the new characters are the offspring of Luke, Leia, and Han, and it makes sense that one last outing for the stars of the classic trilogy, while taking the opportunity to introduce the next generation of Star Wars stars.
  19. Recent reports have shed some light into the departure of Michael Arndt from the Episode VII script team last year. Arndt's plan was to focus on the offspring of the original heroes, whereas Abrams wants to focus on the big three one last time before handing over the reigns to the next generation.Originally, the plan seemed to involve Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford returning in a supporting capacity for Star Wars Episode VII with the newer recruits taking the lead, but now it seems that the fan favourites will be getting one last outing as the main stars. 22. Jack O'Connell currently has few movie credits to his name, most notably the biopic Unbroken alongside Angelina Jolie, and coming of age drama This Is England. He was also a star of the UK television show Skins. Rumour has it that this may be the same role that incumbent Doctor Who star Matt Smith also auditioned for, and that he has since had a further meeting with Episode VII director JJ Abrams. Of course, so many names have been mentioned in relation to the next Star Wars movie at this point, and Disney remain tight-lipped on the cast list, so it is still anybody's game. With filming due to start within the next few months we are sure more solid casting news will surface soon.

  24. This will probably come as no surprise, as we have already been told of Disney's plan to release a new Star Wars movie every year, starting with Star Wars Episode VII and alternating between a Star Wars episode and a spin-off movie. We can also expect to see television series tie-ins and rumour has it that after a recent Marvel deal with Netflix, we could see another new Star Wars show head that way too. What else can we expect from this strategy? With Marvel so far, Disney has introduced characters and threads in stand-alone movies and sequels, then tied all the ends up to form a mega movie a-la Avengers. It seems highly likely that characters and storylines introduced in the Star Wars spin-offs and television shows will find their way into future instalments of the Star Wars saga, and if done correctly it could work well. But as with anything Star Wars, the potential for a fan backlash is always there if things go wrong!
  25. Having spoken to fellow Star Wars veterans Mark Hamill and Ewan McGregor, Mace Windu actor Samuel L Jackson has revealed that none of them have been contacted by the Star Wars Episode VII casting department.Jackson says that despite repeated hints that he want to return for Episode VII all he has had is an "hmm". It was reported earlier in the year that Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the classic trilogy, was in training to get fit for a return to Star Wars. But according to Jackson the two spoke recently and Hamill denied being contacted to reprise his role. Also speaking to Samuel L Jackson recently was Ewan McGregor, who has also denied any involvement with the new sequel trilogy in production by Disney. The Episodes VII script has apparently still not been finalised, and producers are keen to cast a 40-something military man, similar to Matt Damon's portrayal in 2013's Elysium.
