  1. Lucasfilm has today announced a new Star Wars animated series for the Disney+ 2021 lineup. According to Lucasfilm, the new series entitled Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be a spin-off of the critically acclaimed animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and will follow the eponymous Bad Batch of clones in the aftermath of the Clone Wars. The Bad Batch were introduced in the final season of The Clone Wars, which premiered on Disney+ earlier this year. The Bad Batch were a squad of experimental clones with very different training from their fellow clonetrooper comrades, who turn to the mercenary life after the end of the Clone Wars. The show will be executive produced by a host of Star Wars alumni including Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars), Athena Portillo (The Clone Wars, Rebels), Brad Rau (Rebels, Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Resistance). Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Rebels) will also serve as co-executive producer, with Josh Rimes (Restistance) joining as a producer. You can read the official announcement here.
  2. Disney are reportedly eyeing up a new Star Wars animated series for the Disney+ streaming service, and it will take the form of a sequel to the acclaimed Disney XD show, Star Wars Rebels, according to First Order Transmissions. They also report that Rebels and The Clone Wars producer/director Dave Filoni will be returning in some capacity. Star Wars Rebels spans a period of time from 5 BBY up until after the events of Return of the Jedi, and ended in March 2018 after four seasons. The finale saw the crew of the Ghost face off against Thrawn, and ended with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine joining forces to search for a missing Ezra Bridger. All of the main characters of the show had a definite resolution to their arcs, with the exception of Ezra, with Dave Filoni remaining tight-lipped on the young Jedi's fate. With Star Wars: The Clone Wars returning for a seventh and final season in February 2020, exclusively on Disney+ and predicted to be a big success for the fledgling streaming service, it's a sure bet that Lucasfilm will be looking to bolster their Star Wars offerings. For those not in the know, The Clone Wars was an animated Star Wars film and Cartoon Network animated series, introduced Ahsoka Tano as the padawan of Anakin Skywalker, and developed their relationship and her eventual exit from the Jedi Order. As a fan favourite, Ahsoka's reappearance in Star Wars Rebels was met with praise. In The Rise of Skywalker, Ahsoka's voice is heard by Rey as she channels the power of the Jedi, appearing to confirm that she had become one with the Force by the time of the sequel trilogy, however Dave Filoni has since teased that we have not seen the last of Ahsoka, and perhaps The Clone Wars season 7 will not be the last time we do.
  3. The Mandalorian has been revealed as the first live-action Star Wars television series, and is now currently in production by Lucasfilm. It will be released exclusivley via Disney's own streaming service. The Mandalorian is set three years after the events of Return of the Jedi and the apparent death of the infamous Mandalorian bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Through the series we will follow the exploits of a lone gunfighter in the outer rim of the galaxy, far from the centre of power of the fledgling New Republic. The series will be written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 Marvel movies. He is no stranger to Star Wars, having lent his voice to characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) will be directing the first episode, with other announced episode direcots including Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson join Jon Favreau as executive producers, and Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.
